Anyone else with ridiculously wide feet?

Where do you buy your shoes? I have very wide feet especially around the toes and can’t seem to find anything that doesn’t hurt my feet after a day of wear. Even so called wide-fit shoes. Do I have to remain housebound and barefoot forever?

Depends how wide you mean of course.
I use Hotter EE or EEE, and JDWilliams who go up to an EEEEE in some styles. The later are often fashionable shoes and quite cheap.

StickyCricket · 03/12/2022 23:11

Yes, not only do I have ridiculously wide feet, I’m also a size 3, and most wide feet shoe specialists only start from a size 4.

I’ve found lots of plus-size clothing companies like Simply Be and places like that do extra wide shoes up to EEEEE width, but again only starting at size 4.

MarmiteCoriander · 03/12/2022 23:13

Watching the thread for ideas too! I have hobbit wide feet! I even tried one of those measuring device/things at clarks once and my foot width was off the scale- but maybe I was reading it wrong 😬

CrookCrane · 03/12/2022 23:16

vivo barefoot (barefoot styles generally because they have a wide toe box)
victoria and merrell for trainers
fly London are sometimes ok for boots
men’s trainers are usually wider
merrell sandals
I managed to find Joseph Siebel boots without a seam across the top so I used a shoe stretcher that worked but took a few days for each boot.

Wombat27A · 03/12/2022 23:17

Altras but obv only for leisure. I have no posh shoes. However, I did get complimented the other day on them, first for everything in life, I suppose.

Ihaveamagicwand · 03/12/2022 23:23

if money’s no object have a look at Sole Bliss.

AnnoyingWideFeet · 03/12/2022 23:27

I’m honestly thinking of bunion surgery as it’s so bad 😞

Honestly, most of the time I buy men's shoes. No good for heels or pretty shoes, but for work they're okay. I have some cheap wide fit ballet flats from Asda I can squish my hooves into for smarter occasions.

CrookCrane · 03/12/2022 23:31

Have you tried shoe stretchers? They really work for real leather shoes and boots.

Sunsetchaser01 · 03/12/2022 23:33

I feel your pain. No dainty strappy shoes here either! Birkies all summer, Merrell, fly London and square toed dm boots all winter. All shoes hurt. Love my Skechers trainers though.

Wombat27A · 03/12/2022 23:34

Basically you need a wide toe box. Merrells are pretty good, as are Altras already mentioned & Vivos but womens shoes aren't good for allowing space for toes.

Red make shoes to fit in Machynlleth but £££. But repairable, probably a shoes for life purchase actually.

AnnoyingWideFeet · 03/12/2022 23:35

Sole Bliss looks amazing although all their shoes are leather and I’m veggie so don’t wear leather. But might actually have to make an exception or I fear I’ll end up not being able to walk. Even doc martens are too narrow for me.

Yup. I'm a 6eee because of lympedema

I wear Vans or DMs 99% of the time. I have 1 pair of heels from SimplyBe or Evans (can't remember which)

AHelpfulHand · 03/12/2022 23:36

The problem with wide fit shoes are that they still taper off too narrow at the front.

I can only wear barefoot shoes due to their anatomical toe box shape

AllLopsided · 03/12/2022 23:39

I have some hotter EEE boots that fit, just. Not all styles do.

I have vivo sandals in something like an H fitting.

And this summer I bought Skechers in men's extra wide 😭

I have ankle problems so no longer care about looking good, only comfort!

I have been advise to get more supportive trainers such as Hokas... I tried women's standard fit and they were so bloody tiny... and no shops near me have any wide styles in men's or women's. It's like we're invisible!

Nannyamc · 03/12/2022 23:40

Sketchers for summer too cold for winter i have been buying gabor trainers(rolling soft) have 2 side zips so,shoe xpands
There boots are good also.Reikers with 2 side zips very good too. Not cheap but comfy and warm in winter.

qwerdi · 03/12/2022 23:42

Birkenstock do nice natural foot shaped shoes, but I think they all have leather uppers

Nat6999 · 04/12/2022 00:06

Me, was a HH fitting when I used to get measures at Clark's when I was a kid, my feet are even wider now I have bunions.

colouringindoors · 04/12/2022 00:08

Birkenstocks or havainas flip flops in the summer
Fly London boots in the winter
Trainers with mesh type fabric that stretches inbetween

Nat6999 · 04/12/2022 00:10

I wear FitFlops in summer or Adidas trainers, in Winter I live & die in Ugg Boots. I have a family wedding next summer & I dread to think what I can get to wear, I have mobility problems so can't wear heels & can't hold ballet flats on my feet.

grannycake · 04/12/2022 07:00

I wear birkies in the summer and birkenstock boots in the winter, Boys wellies (often wider), I need to try birkenstock trainers as well

fernz · 04/12/2022 07:12

Have a look into barefoot shoes, there are lots of brands now! Happy Little Soles is a UK retailer that stocks lots of adult shoes now too. There are many barefoot shoe bloggers etc on Instagram too who post info and shoe reviews. Basically most normal shoes are not foot shaped at all (very narrow at the toes which is not a natural foot shape for anyone - just look at the shape of babies' feet!).

TheDishElopedwiththeSpoon · 04/12/2022 07:13

If you’re vegan but considering making an exception for your shoes, remember if you buy a style that can be resoled then the leather upper will last years and years and years if you look after them.

AsdaYellowTins · 04/12/2022 07:16

My feet were off the scale last time I had them measured. I buy shoes a size and a half too big, always have done. Fitflops and Asic's trainers currently. Got some work shoes from.m&s wide range, had to get a 7 (I'm a 5). For rigid things, like garden clogs or ski boots, I have to get a 9. We need more hobbit shoe sellers.

Random789 · 04/12/2022 07:23

I'm a wide size five. In addition to their width, the 'chunkiness' of my feet in the mid-section is a problem. I can never wear slip-on shoes. They just won't slip on.

The brands I find most comfortable are DM and Merrells.I love, love my Merrells. Didn't realise how cramped my toes and the front of my feet were until I walked in those. It was like taking off a corset.
