How much of mg footwear should I ditch or rethink with Plantar Fasciitis?

I was diagnosed with plantar fasciitis in the summer and it’s healing nicely and I’ve had to change my footwear.

However, should I ditch most of my shoes? I have a few pairs of shoes/sandals etc. Have seen a podiatrist twice who’s said to try my special insoles inside footwear and see how I go.

For information (I know different PF sufferers can tolerate certain shoes/trainers), I’ve found the Next Forever Comfort range great, so much so I’ve got silver glitter stiletto heels and worn them out from that range and I got an Oliver Bonas silver ankle boot too - very comfy and it comes in gold.

If you've got any converse or ballet flats then I'd burn them.

Runningintolife · 02/12/2022 07:45

Mule slippers bring mine on

CinnamonJellyBeans · 02/12/2022 07:46

Yes to getting rid of converse and ballet flats.

Fit flop are good. I wear regular shoes too, with insoles when walking anything longer than 1/2 mile.

If you need to lose any weight, that will really help your feet,

I had espadrille type of shoes, TOMs and ballet pumps all gone. I also had fitflop sandals but they make my feet ache as they are spongy without arch support. My PT started from wearing barefoot shoes so I don't recommend them. Agree to binning converse.

Winterpetal · 02/12/2022 08:38

I’ve got 3 pairs of dr martens boots I’m hoping I can wear again at some point, the soles are just to hard

Yep all those are gone!

I’ve had sort of recurring on and off PF which I’ve kept at bay, but WFH wearing slippers during covid didn’t help, then jogging and warming up but not cooling down after jogs, plus gaining the corona stone and also when returning to work wearing trainers and then normal shoes when in work.

I got some arch support insoles and wore them in all types of shoes, including converse type. Cured the pf, but I still wear the insoles with shoes that have no support.

EspeciallyD · 03/12/2022 07:03

I would hang on to them all, maybe with the exception of ballet flats and flip flops. I was crippled with it in both feet about 5 years ago but I can wear pretty well any footwear again now at least occasionally. I mainly wear trainers, boots and birkenstocks but can now do bare feet, heels and crocs which were all unthinkable at the time and I only wear my inserts occasionally now. Still do lots of yoga and stretches.

converseandjeans · 03/12/2022 07:35

I wore converse & ballet flats for years. Now I wear Birkenstock's in summer. Various winter boots. Adidas trainers seem ok.

wohmum · 03/12/2022 07:50

same as a PP, I suffered really badly with PF a year or so ago but now now wear most of my shoes. I WFH mainly and we have hard floors which definitely aggravated it. Splashed out (for me!) on a pair of £30 Skechers Go Lounge slippers which I wear all the time - they are brilliant , and it’s been gone for months.
Given I wear them for around 15 hours a day most days it was £30 well spent!

GorgonzolaSouffle · 29/12/2022 23:14

Have you all been to see professional people about your PF or done any exercises?

it’s bloody agony and I don’t know what to do

VerifiedBot2351 · 29/12/2022 23:22

I’ve had it for months and it’s kept me awake at night and I’ve often been in tears with the pain. I wear DMs for work as I’m on my feet most of the day and they are the only shoes which last more than a couple of months.

MissHavershamReturns · 29/12/2022 23:23

I binned all ballet flats

PAFMO · 29/12/2022 23:26

I had PF for about a year after an ankle injury. Spent a fortune on special insoles etc which did sweet FA then on the back of a MN thread bought Fitflop Rallies and Skechers. Gone and never returned within a month.

Yes, don't go chucking any shoes out. I've had plantar fascitis twice and both times it disappeared after about 9 months and I could wear any footwear again with no issues.

SleepingisanArt · 29/12/2022 23:31

I have several sets of insoles which I have in my favourite shoes and boots. For work (owned and ran a restaurant, so long days on my feet) I wore Ecco lace ups as they have plenty of support (including removable insoles). They coped with 16 hour days, wet floors (good grip) and having wine spilled on them! Heels have gone completely unless they are chunky block heels no more than 2 inches high. The pain of PF and how long it can take to resolve is not worth pretty high heels....

Motorina · 29/12/2022 23:32

I've had it once, maybe 5 years ago. Entirely resolved and now can wear any shoes or go barefoot. Don't get rid of anything you'll regret.

LadyPoison · 30/12/2022 13:59

I've ditched the very high heels but I wear most of the rest of mine with 3/4 arch supports stuck in with double sided carpet tape where necessary.

I take a spare of the insoles with me when buying new shoes to make sure they will fit comfortably.

My PF is currently in remission but I'm now fastidious about arch supports as I don't want it to ever come back.

Eminybob · 30/12/2022 14:02

Get some Birkies for the summer.
I had PF for about 2 years, nothing helped until I wore birkenstocks for a summer and it was like a miracle.

DarlingCoffee · 30/12/2022 19:19

Archie’s fit flops are great if you have PF. I have two pairs

QuitMoaning · 30/12/2022 19:24

I recommend Vionics as they are designed for PF.

I got inserts from a podiatrist it's pretty much gone now

HironsBirons · 30/12/2022 19:29

I suffered badly for about 5 years, regular reflexology (every 3 weeks max) has completely sorted it out

Shunkleisshiny · 30/12/2022 19:32

I binned all ballet flats

When I see young women and girls in ballet flats, I always think 'You have no idea of the world of pain that awaits you'
