Are 'glamorous' chandelier earrings okay for a wedding?

I've got gold glitzy chandelier earrings, which go well with my outfit (a jumpsuit). I'm also wearing a gold bracelet and gold necklace. I was happy with them, but then I googled 'are chandelier earrings okay for a wedding?' and there are articles that say guests shouldn't wear 'glamorous' earrings and they should wear 'modest' earrings, like studs for example. Are my chandelier earrings a bit too 'party/night out' for a wedding?

I think they look lovely and you should wear them!

FivePotatoes · 24/11/2022 13:33

Thank you Smile

I should add that I'm a guest, not the bride! The article I read said that guests shouldn't be upstaging the bride ...

I'm not sure the bride can be upstaged by a pair of earrings. Wear them!

Classica · 24/11/2022 13:37

Some of the advice on what not to wear to weddings is ridic. They'd have us in hessian sacking so as to avoid any potential 'upstaging'.

As long as you're not wearing a white full length gown you're good to go! Wear the earrings.

ToffeeCandle · 24/11/2022 13:39

I think it depend son how glamourous the wedding venue and her dress and style is. If she's going to be in a simple white dress at a barn or local pub then maybe this is too much for the wedding but if it's a fancy affair at a glitzy location then it's fine to wear big eye catching jewellery. Just do not wear white or beige or light colours that might me mistaken for the bride!

I'm also wearing black, so I'm faux pas-ing all over the place! Grin (My shoes and bag are bright though)

only thing I'd say is that they'd make more of a statement without a necklace getting in the way.

Classica · 24/11/2022 13:40

*maybe make more of a statement

ToffeeCandle · 24/11/2022 13:40

See I wouldn't wear black to a wedding (or light colours)

MsPinkMarshmallow · 24/11/2022 13:41

Of course it's ok!

Ohh really? I was going to wear a long statement necklace as well. Do you think no necklace at all?

Wow, blingy!

news to me if there are rules about wedding earrings. I don’t think you need to worry. A necklace too would be de trop.

Emmelina · 24/11/2022 13:44

They look great, not like they’re down to your boobs or anything! :I’d wear them! :D

minipie · 24/11/2022 13:44

I wouldn’t worry from an upstaging the bride pov. But what kind of wedding is it? Your outfit sounds fab but very much “night out in town” vibe so agree it wouldn’t be right for a daytime country barn/marquee wedding for example. But if it’s a more glam town wedding then great.

Yeah I was thinking clubbing outfit!

littlegingerone · 24/11/2022 13:53

I think people are under the impression there are all these unwritten outfit rules for weddings... As a recent bride as far as I was concerned my guests could have worn whatever they wanted to and felt comfortable in... I mean as long as not an actual wedding dress!

FivePotatoes · 24/11/2022 13:55

Okay I'll ditch the necklace. I'm glad I posted now!

It's a wedding in a hotel. Not in a town, but a suburb.

I could wear diamond stud earrings instead with the long gold necklace? Make it less 'nightclub'?

I think a lot of that online wedding advice is aimed at a US audience, my experience there is that weddings are a lot more conservative and a lot less glamorous (I'm Irish weddings here are hilariously OTT) Earrings are fab and in no way too much, but definitely no necklace with them, bangle if you must but earrings like that are a big enough statement alone

FivePotatoes · 24/11/2022 13:57

I'm probably going over the top because I've put on weight lately, and I'm feeling unattractive. So I think I'm trying to make myself feel special and look nicer than I feel, if that makes sense.

Agree with pp - ditch the necklace.

Black seems to be fine to wear to a wedding these days (unless one is the MIL or MOB in which case, just no!) so I think you’re alright - the bright shoes and bag will definitely lift it. Earrings are fab but will be much nicer without the necklace.

FivePotatoes · 24/11/2022 14:06

Okay great - thanks everyone. I'm ditching the necklace and just wearing bangle and earrings.

I take it a fascinator would be too much as well? I was thinking a simple hair slide rather than fascinator? A bit like this, but just one slide. My hair is this sort of length as well.

Hair slide is more modern and interesting. 👍
