Recommend me a nice make up remover (that works)

I have up to £30 to spend on myself on a make up remover. I'm fed up of biodegradable wipes they don't take my mascara off and end up with sore eyes from scrubbing (and I don't even wear waterproof mascara).
I'm not very skincare savvy - but could a cleansing oil/milk balm work?

For heavy nights out I swear by the camomile cleansing butter from bodyshop, it's the only product I've used that can get waterproof mascara off! Day to day make up I use squalene cleanser and toner by The Ordinary or their equivalent from Inkey.

Changingplace · 16/11/2022 19:33

Another vote for body shop camomile cleansing butter, it’s fab.

Removes all my makeup, waterproof mascara and all and it’s a really reasonable price too.

monsteronahill · 16/11/2022 19:34

I love the Elemis pro collagen balm! It's incredible. I use it with face halos (which take makeup off just with water) and it's a game changer. Doesn't drag on my skin / eyes and my skin is super clean, the balm is so silky too.

I just use micellar gel with water and wash off. Not that watery stuff that needs a gauze or cotton ball to get it off. The gel is thicker and just like a regular facial or body wash gel.

I'm always surprised when people just use wet wipes, when water and a cleanser is available? I've only used wet wipe type cleaners when camping at festivals and always felt they never cleaned properly.

Clinique “take the day off” removed everything (including waterproof mascara) really gently for me! No stinging, leaves my skin soft and moisturised. Bit of a Holy Grail!

MaggieMagpie357 · 16/11/2022 19:38

Liz Earle cleansing products are fab for skin and removing make up - even waterproof mascara. Either the classic Cleanse and Polish or the new cleansing 3 in 1 gel which I use every night.

PottyDottyDotPot · 16/11/2022 19:38

Any micella water.

Purpleavocado · 16/11/2022 19:39

I like the Liz Earle and also the clinique one that comes in the tub. I use muslin wipes with them.

CaronPoivre · 16/11/2022 19:39

Liz Earle is very good.

I love this stuff, and agree it removes every trace of all makeup.
The only downside for me is that it stings my eyes so badly that I don’t use it anymore!

PosiePerkinPootleFlump · 16/11/2022 19:40

Garner micellar cleansing water was a game changer for me - until I discovered that I always bought tubing mascara that comes off with warm water as couldn't find anything to remove it that didn't aggravate my skin. It's gentle and non greasy

PermanentTemporary · 16/11/2022 19:40

I mostly use hot water and a flannel but a bit of Take the day off helps too.

crochetmylifeaway · 16/11/2022 19:41

Clinique take the day off cleansing balm. Absolute cult product. And it doesn't leave your skin dry or greasy.

Newnamefor2021 · 16/11/2022 19:42

Elemis cleaner. It smells incredible and does a great job.

totallybonafido · 16/11/2022 19:42

Ponds cold cream. It's not expensive and doesn't irritate. I use it to take waterproof makeup off and it melts it away.

StickyCricket · 16/11/2022 19:45

I’ve used this for years, and I’ve started bulk buying it because it seems to not be stocked in many shops these days. I use this for first cleanse and then a balm for second cleanse - Body Shop Chamomile balm if I’m trying to save some cash, Elemis cleansing balm if I’m spendy.

RampantIvy · 16/11/2022 19:47

Another vote for The Bodyshop Camomile Cleansing Butter.

It melts when you apply it on your face and is excellent. It really does deserve its five star rating and doesn't cost the earth.

Disclaimer: I don't work for The Bodyshop. It is just the best product I have come across.

Dippydonky · 16/11/2022 19:54

I have a ‘erase your face‘ cloth and it’s surprisingly good - I don’t wear loads of makeup but I do wear waterproof mascara and it works on that. Quite a shock as it’s just a cloth and you wash your face using it and water. I bought it entirely because I needed a cloth and liked the name.

Iwritethissittinginthekitchensink · 16/11/2022 19:58

Clinique and the Body Shop butters are effective but clump.

Liz Earle stuff is good but irritates my skin!

Clarins Total Cleansing oil is the best I’ve found for me - I don’t love the scent but it works and is gentle.

Fancyateapottea · 16/11/2022 20:02

DHC cleansing oil. Body shop chamomile is nice too and Elemis balm smells amazing. But the DHC one wins for the feel, effectiveness and price (it lasts ages!)

I’ve never heard of this! I’m going to investigate, what an unusual idea - thank you :)

This is £32 but I swear by it www.baseskncare.co.uk/products/proactive-age-hot-cloth-cleanser

That hasn't been my experience with the Bodyshop one.

WhatJustHappened321 · 16/11/2022 20:27

Another vote for make up removal cloth. Takes off everything!! No other products needed and they are machine washable

Swampthing55 · 16/11/2022 20:40

Face soap and clarity is the best
