...going into administration...

And bloody dogs on everything! I like dogs, but don't want them all over my clothes!

I've never liked anything I've seen in their shops. As I've said before, it looks a bit Sloane Ranger meets Mr Tumble.

Yes!!

JustFrustrated · 14/11/2022 13:28

I literally bought my first ever purchase from them this week via their Amazon store.

Welly Boot things for my mom for Christmas.

I was actually impressed with the packaging and stuff, but also very aware they weren't worth the £40 price tag on the label. (I paid far less)

Itsabeautifuldaytosavelives123 · 14/11/2022 17:59

If Joules items didn't shrink in the wash it would have done a lot better IMO

typos · 14/11/2022 18:19

I think part of their problem was they are part of the horsey set but their wellies are awful and not fit for purpose. I've bought a load of Joules stuff over the years and it's still going strong but I also agree it went very high st and the quality nose dived, such a shame!

fairisleknit · 14/11/2022 11:28

Fatface prices for women's clothes have certainly skyrocketed recently, I won't even consider buying any of their tops now which I would have done a few years back. The ladies stuff looks no better than TU quality to me.

I agree and it all quite similar from one year to the next. Always quite dull colours too.

FearofQueefing · 14/11/2022 18:23

I have a few joules Breton tops - all bought on Vinted because there's no way I can justify the retail price. Even in the sale, their clothes are pricey.

It's a shame, but I'm not surprised.

Floisme · 14/11/2022 18:29

Devastating for staff. I doubt whether Joules actively wanted to run down their quality. I imagine they were just trying to survive on a high street that seems locked into a helter skelter to the bottom. I don't think they'll be the only ones to fall off.

There's another thread about this not in S&B and it's been kicking off between people who like it and people who don't.

Did someone use the dreaded f-word?

speedtalker · 14/11/2022 18:34

I bought a baby present in there recently, then bought a wallet too. I was surprised to see that they had some nice handbags. I wouldn't usually go in there. Like others, not keen on the animal prints. I think they must have a huge physical shop footprint, whose costs might be drowning them.

TheOGCCL · 14/11/2022 22:13

@ImPickleRickSpartacus Frumpy or Fatface? 😁

Flowerfairy101 · 14/11/2022 11:31

I wonder this too about Fatface, quality seems to have dipped and prices gone up loads. £56 for a bog standard jumper. I did order some stuff the other day but sent all of it back and probably won't bother for a while. I used to buy loads of winter stuff from there.

Yea I'm thinking fat face might be next

fairisleknit · 15/11/2022 08:21

Drapers say Fatface is inevitable. On their website there is not much new children's stuff in ...looks like they could be winding down...bit like the joules website of late...

I bought 2 Canterbury coats recently - never before bought anything from them both £109 but got them for £62 and are padded coats ideal for dog walks, shopping, gym - quite smart really but could not see myself buying anything else from them. A similar coat in Sainburys was £50 so definitely think the Joules were better value at £62 (but not at £109!)

LearnerCook · 15/11/2022 11:35

I feel so bad for the staff of Joules.

I love Joules' Rosamund popover style blouse top. I always look out for it on eBay as I just couldn't afford it full price.

CaptainWentworth · 15/11/2022 11:44

I love the baby clothes in Joules. Like a PP I remember when you could only get their stuff at country shows, and I feel like their range just got a bit too big in the end.

FatFace also started off similarly - mail order only, a small range of unisex sweatshirts and polos that were really good quality, and a bit different to what else was out there. I first came across them when my cousin was at Harper Adams agricultural college and her uni stash was from FF - that would have been about 1999 ish.

IncessantNameChanger · 15/11/2022 11:44

Im sad about joules, i lovd their bags and kids clothes.

Agree about Fat Face. I bought a fat face cotton dress that was originally over £55 for £25 in their outlet. It had no bust darts. On a cotton dress. So that's going to look like a sack on anyone. However I bought a boys top bundle of their tops from Vinted 8 for under £13 delivered. So not tempted to buy the for over £15 each in store. I think most places are going to struggle soon. I only but what we absolutely need now.

I think Fat Face might be next.

I bloody hope not, they have the only joggers DS will wear at the moment 😫

lindyloo57 · 15/11/2022 16:47

@PilatesPeach can I ask where you got the coats so cheaply, I just took a look on the site and they are still £109 looks a nice coat.

Chloefairydust · 15/11/2022 21:39

Aww I’m sad about joules going into administration, I know they are not the most fashionable. But I feel like they are the only brand left that actually sell high quality stuff… Going to sound random but I love their socks, they are so soft and comfortable lol … Just ordered some more while I still can 😂

Chloefairydust · 15/11/2022 21:41

I also quite like their wellies🙁

This. The trouble is that quality clothes aren't cheap to make, and most people don't want to pay the price for quality anymore.

Chocolateteabag · 16/11/2022 07:11

Joules had been going at it with the emails and discounts recently so it looked be very much on the cards.

However FatFace have nothing as far as I can see? So maybe things aren't so bad for them?
(Or at least until I go and buy DH and DS some pj bottoms at £££ and then they will discount them!)

Have you been into a fat face store recently? Last time I went it was just racks of sale items

CaronPoivre · 16/11/2022 07:16

It’s sad to see our high streets dissolving but inevitable now. I like Joules very much. Nice warm coats, brilliant ankle wellies. Pretty scarves and jumpers. Tidy but sensible for country life.
