I am sick of traditional bras

I am sick of underwired bras. It is impossible to find one which doesn't enhance my back boobs and is completely cotton.

T shirt bra's dig in round the back (yes I have been measured recently and have tried a huge range of bras) because I am now at the age where is am a bit dumpy and soft.

I think I want to wear Sloggi cotton crop top bras. They seem to give me good shape and feel supportive. They look so much better under tighter t shirts too.

They are also way less sweaty and I am of an age where every little helps in avoiding overheating.

What does everyone else do?

I wear crop top bras.
I refuse to wear uncomfortable bras just to hoik myself up.

TheRealMaudOHara · 13/11/2022 09:19

Yep, totally given up on 'proper' bras except for formal occasions. I wear crop top styles or Calvin Klein soft triangle bras with a comfy wide strap which give a little bit more definition. Can't see myself ever going back, why make ourselves uncomfortable?

astronewt · 13/11/2022 09:20

I haven't worn an underwire in years. They never worked for me.

I work out a lot so I wear sports bras or crop tops on days I'm at home. When I go into the office I wear moulded wireless bras.

Madamecastafiore · 13/11/2022 09:22

Miss Mary of Sweden Smoothing Bras. Bloody lovely and comfortable, thick straps, no underwire.

Tanfastic · 13/11/2022 09:25

I don't buy underwires anymore. I just buy non wired bras. Sainsbury's always have some decent ones. At weekend I sometimes downgrade to a cropped top bra under a sweatshirt. My boobs have started to sag now I'm approaching 50 but I still can't bear the boned ones.

OhBeAFineGuyKissMe · 13/11/2022 09:27

I just brought some primark shaped crop tops to wear at the weekend. So comfy and give me a better shape. Been wearing all week now.

Why have I been wearing 'proper' bras all this time? The amount of money alone 😟 plus never getting the fit right. To be supportive enough the leave red marks all round my back.

Unless I am wearing a plunge dress, I think I am going to stick to crop tops.

NotquitewhatImeant · 13/11/2022 09:29

yep also given up on ‘real bras’. I wear M&S flexifit crop tops or CK similar. Wacoal halo lace bralette for something more attractive and non wired t shirt bra if I need more shape. Can’t go back to underwires now as they are so uncomfortable

ithoughtisawapuddycat · 13/11/2022 09:29

I use to hate underwired bras but one I had a proper fitting, the bras I bought are so comfy I sometimes don't notice them on. I get all mine from Elomie.

Newusernameaug · 13/11/2022 09:29

I’ve only worn crop top bras for around 5 years now - haven’t worn under wired for this time as find them too painful and yes they also give a rubbish shape compared to more natural fitting stretchy bras

custardbear · 13/11/2022 09:31

Yep I also gave up in traditional bras for crop tops. If I wear one now I loathe it and feel it all the time, crop tops I just feel nothing! I'm not going back!

RichmondVeganSausagesAreSurprisinglyNice · 13/11/2022 09:32

Try Molke op. I swear to god that they are extremely comfortable and supportive without any bits of metal to poke you in the boobs. They currently have a sale on.

Yes, I am a convert to soft bras now too, I wore underwired happily for many years but they were only comfy because they were badly fitting (too big in the band, too small in the cup). Started wearing crop tops in lockdown but they didn’t give a very flattering outline under clothes. So I put myself through the boob or bust method last summer, tried masses and ended up with a properly fitted underwired bra. It is reasonably comfy but I feel so matronly in it , my boobs just out like shelves, I feel so self conscious wearing it and it cost a fortune.

Then I discovered all the new soft ones in M&S - what a revelation! No more boob or bust for me, a softer outline but still flattering and no more unnaturally huge-looking bust

Afterfire · 13/11/2022 09:37

I like crop tops from primark or tu at sainsburys. I won’t wear bras that are uncomfortable anymore. I’m a large size but ever since covid I just can’t be bothered to have things digging in - and yep I’m definitely wearing the right size before someone comes along and suggests boob or bust or bravissimo or whatever.

So pleased I am not alone!

I am descended from two generations of bra fitters and have been secretly worried that I was breaking the law of lingerie by shunning underwired bras Grin

Loving the suggestions too - I am going to check them all out today.

I am throwing away the underwires for good 👍

I'm starting off trying a Molke bra - they are colourful which I love.

It's not always the measuring/fitting. I wear a 28E, I have been measured umpty-ump times, been to Bravissimo, I'm as passionate about the Boob or Bust method as anyone. But I have a tiny bony ribcage and underwires are never ever shaped to fit it and always cause me pain.

Misstabithabean · 13/11/2022 09:44

Had a fitting in m&s recently. Tried some new soft ones without underwiring and they are very comfy. Think the range is called sumptuously soft (or something similar!)

Unbridezilla · 13/11/2022 09:47

I still wear underwired bras, but find them very comfortable. A 30E/F though, so they are pricey. But I like pretty lace on a bra and i like the shape that underwiring gives me. Brands like Molke just don't appeal at all, to garish and bulky looking for my taste.

I find bras that aren't underwired give me less under bust support, and as my boobs are fuller at the bottom, the shape in tshirts is not as good. And they seem to mean my shoulders take more weight, which is uncomfortable and I don't want to develop shoulder dips from bra straps

Jewel1968 · 13/11/2022 09:48

My DD tells me young women are not wearing any bra. Not all young women but a fair few. It got me thinking.

I don't mind underwire bras and I tend to behave like a Pavlovian dog - when my bra is on I am ready for the day. During lockdown I often didn't wear a bra and wore a vest. It felt fine but no I couldn't go out like that - so conditioned am I.

Perhaps one of these soft bras is the answer..

Yep my dd is 19 and none of her friends - even those with large boobs - are wearing bras or anything at all. It’s just considered so old fashioned. Dd doesn’t even own a bra….! (Or crop top etc).

NigelWithTheBrie79 · 13/11/2022 10:12

I wear Molke bras. They are definitely not bulky. 😃
They also have plain colours and various nude skin tones. But I have the cosmic and hot leopard ones as well as black ones.

Glad you have found bra happiness OP! Before you throw your olds away, have a look at options to donate them: goodmakertales.com/donate-old-bras-uk/

I may be a minority on this thread but I'm a 36F and find underwired bras comfy. The underwire is there for a reason and that is not to make the wearer uncomfortable.

My only exception is the hot weather when, apart from going to work, I go bra free. But that is not an underwire issue, it's the tight band across my back on a warm day. We all have nipples and if the outline shows I don't care.

As for looking for something in cotton. Cotton does not stretch. I consider the thought that cotton is the holy grail to be something of a myth.

Non wired sports bras.... look and feel so much better

Jewel1968 · 13/11/2022 13:45

@Afterfire should we take a leaf out of the young women's book.
