Anyone know anything about LV handbags? Need to know if this is real or fake.

Before we go any further they are not my thing at all. I wouldn’t know a Louis Vuitton from a fake if I fell over it.

However, I am clearing the estate of a relative. The proceeds go to the beneficiary (a relative with dementia), I am merely selling the items to get as much back into the estate for her. Therefore nothing in it for me, but I want to get this right.

Provenence would be that relative didn’t/wouldn’t be the type to buy a fake - everything I’ve cleared has been genuine items usually with receipts or so on. It wouldn’t have been her style. She liked high quality things. After months of doing this I’m left with one handbag.

It feels like lovely quality. It’s substantial, heavy, the stitching is lovely. I don’t think it’s ever been used. But I’ve no idea how to tell if it’s real or where/how to sell it unless I do. Anyone got any experience/expertise/ideas?

Will go and take some photos now…

What a find. And how sad that it was unused.

IncessantNameChanger · 09/11/2022 16:06

How sad if it never got used 😔 this makes me want to renew my decluttering

She hoarded so much. Bags was only one thing but it was high end. The other stuff she had was tat mostly. But she loved the bags. Her house was stuffed. She really wanted a family but married a vile man who after she divorced she never got over it, or met anyone else. It was very sad. The hoarding was compensation for something I think.

sorting it out has been exhausting, practically and emotionally.

What a lovely thread - with a happy ending (thanks to Bruised Pear)

But also very sad about the original lady, sorry for your loss OP, that’s a wonderful thing you have done for her beneficiary

There has been a recent tv programme about a company that buys high end goods such as handbags sorry can't remember their name but someone else might be able to

Defiantlynot41 · 09/11/2022 16:31

@Roystonv it's Xupes www.xupes.com/

FamBae · 09/11/2022 16:33

There are plenty of online sites that sell second hand designer goods they will give you plenty of advice, the hand bag clinic being one of them.

Roystonv · 09/11/2022 16:48

That's it, thank you.

PenguinLove1 · 09/11/2022 16:53

Have a look at Addicted to Handbags, she will sell it for you for a fair price, the website is great.

If you call a Louis Vuitton store they should be able to give you the exact provenance of the bag using the stamped code as reference. I had one of their bags that needed a new zip .When I called to arrange the repair they asked me for the code . Once they checked it they were able to tell me exactly where and when I bought the bag from them and how much I paid for at the time.

I think it's real.

It costs a fortune to set up the machinery to make the metalwork. So many fakes have standard shaped trims.

Yours' look individual. Also the stitches per inch look perfectly consistent and the finish on the zipper is lovely.

The match on the check placement under the handle tabs is perfect and you said the square at the underside is perfectly central.

Fake producers don't make things that perfectly. They don't need to, the person buying them isn't going to go at it with a ruler.

So pleased it genuine @Mykittensmittens
