What should I do to my face to keep it youthful if I don't want Botox?

I don't want anything that's a cosmetic procedure but want to know what I should be doing to my face to keep it youthful?

Should I get facials and if so what type and how often and where from?

Currently I;

Use cleanser morning and night

Use Paula's choice exfoliate each night (contains BHA)

And then use moisturiser

I also use SPF moisturiser daily

What else should I be doing? I'm 35

Jade roller; microneedling (at-home tool or as part of a facial); LED facials/at-home tool. Retinol/tretinoin if your skin isn't too sensitive. Sunscreen.

Eat well
Spf daily
Low alcohol
Keep skin hydrated
Keep your body hydrated
Tretinoin

I get mine from Dermatica, I started using it at 29, before that I used Retinol for two years - I'm nearly 33 and have the face of a baby - just kidding but I do have lovely skin!

If you want to try it www.dermatica.co.uk/referrer/Y2K0NE

Quick question re Dermatica - how do you just order tretinoin? I’ve gone through the consultation and it just comes up with a ‘specialist formula’ for me, but it doesn’t say what that is?

How do you know it contains tretinoin and in what strength?

makemeamum · 30/10/2022 19:10

Stay out of the sun and wear spf everyday.

I have a god skincare routine and I
Slug twice a week. I also oil my hair

BryceQuinlanTheFirst · 30/10/2022 19:20

@Tadpoll i think if you have selected anti aging as any goals you will get Tret, you can contact the customer service they are very responsive. I started on 0.025, then 0.05 now use 0.1

pinkyponkyplink · 30/10/2022 19:52

How do people use vit c and retinol? Morning or night and before and after what other products? Help

BryceQuinlanTheFirst · 30/10/2022 21:03

I wash my face in the morning then use Medik8 vitamin c serum, then add Spf then Erborian CC cream and lip balm - good to go

At night I do a balm cleanse (I don't actually do it twice but many do), add some snail muchin then my tret/Retinol, then I like beauty pie ceramide capsules then moisturiser then a few drops of oil or vaseline.

You don't need to do all of that, I just enjoy it as a de-stress activity

Unseelie · 30/10/2022 21:17

Honestly the most useful thing you can do is train yourself not to frown. I used to have a job where a ‘poker face’ was important and I got in the habit of not letting my annoyance show on my face. Now nearly fifty and still zero forehead wrinkles, but my more-frowny much younger sister has loads 👀

Smearywindowsagain · 30/10/2022 21:21

Tretinoin. I use obagi

Squirrelsnut · 30/10/2022 21:30

It's mainly genes. My mum is 83, chronically ill for years and bedbound. She still has an astonishingly young face for her age, barely a line or any sagging. She's always looked very young.

Shitfather · 31/10/2022 12:19

Loads of water, good sleep, cut down on booze, fags, junk; plenty of exercise. Hot yoga does wonders for my skin. Saying that, there is no substitute for good genes.

dangermou5e · 31/10/2022 19:34

Sounds like ok doing all the right things then! Thanks all but aside from lifestyle choices I was also after facial products that work? Or do you think it's all a scam?

Nip n Fab extra strength glycolic pads are really great for my skin. My skin glows and make up looks very smooth. I’ve have had comments from other women about how dewy my skin looks after using them. I keep my skincare routine very simple - organic rose water, argan oil and a thick moisturiser (Mustela emollient balm) when not wearing makeup. When wearing makeup, I use Sisley’s rose cream. It’s is ££££ but amazing and I use it as eye cream. It’s so light but very moisturizing. Nip n Fab pads once every 2 weeks.

Good skincare will help but nothing will stop forehead lines or crows feet apart from botox

Sapphiresanddiamonds · 31/10/2022 22:02

Tretinoin. I buy it online from Spain. It's the cheapest and most effective. Oh and factor 50 all year round.

LearnerCook · 01/11/2022 10:01

A fringe. Much cheaper than any beauty treatments.

It’s the jowls I hate, I am nervous of fillers though! Any natural alternatives?

One of the only things that has decades of clinical research proving its effectiveness is tretinoin. It speeds up cellular turnover, and increases collagen production in the skin - both of which decline as we age.
However, it is basically medication in cream form, strong stuff - and can be quite irritating and cause problems if not used correctly. So in many countries you need a prescription.

Alternatively you could use over the counter retinol, which is much less irritating (but also less effective) and easier to get your hands on.

That and high factor sunscreen are your best topical creams.

Not really, that's more to do with the underlying fascia of your face rather than your skin, so even tretinoin won't fix it. The fat pads in our cheeks just migrate south as we age, causing jowls. Some people are just naturally blessed with high cheekbones so won't get them so bad.

Even fillers don't fix it completely, just stave it off for a while. There seems to be good results if you are looking for a subtle effect, if the jowls aren't too pronounced. But after a while they don't work anymore. And that's where you see the extreme puffy cheek fillers, (think Courtney Cox a few years ago) where people keep getting more and more done to try and puff up their face to give a lifted effect. Just ends up looking weird.

In terms of natural - I dunno, some people swear by facial yoga, or face rollers, or thread lifts, or caci facials. There's load of things out there that claim to do something, but I'm doubtful.

Surgery is the most effective thing, although not everyone's cup of tea obviously.

I get mine online from Farmacia Andorra, as I am not in the UK so can't use Dermatica or Skin & Me.
The brand name in Spain is Retirides.

Cotswoldmama · 01/11/2022 15:57

Tret is much strong than retinol and definitely works. Using a subscription like skin+me and dermalogica is a good way to start you have to build up slowly. I've been using skin+me for about 2.5 years I got up to 0.03% about a year ago but found it too strong for me and I've stuck at 0.027. My skin really isn't sensitive but it can't cope with any stronger. I dread to think what my skin would have looked like if I had just bought the 0.05% stuff I found online with out the slow build up I think I'd have probably lost a layer of skin!

Appalonia · 01/11/2022 16:04

Stay out of th sun! It's the most ageing thing ever. Eat good fats, sheet masks are good, take make-up off at night, get lots of sleep, exercise. Taking collagen may be helpful, but I've not tried it myself, just bought some marine collagen to see if it makes any difference.

Newgirls · 01/11/2022 16:06

I had a laser facial which was painful and expensive but it worked

not sure I want to do it again but maybe one for when older

NoNameNowAgain · 01/11/2022 16:09

Wear a sun hat - at least in summer.
