Great trainers (to wear with dresses)

MadameSapphire · 23/10/2022 09:22

Wear dresses and skirts, a lot. Could do with some fab trainers to go with these. I tend to wear black tights with dresses, so they need to go with these - I’m not against colour at all and don’t want trainers to totally blend in, if that makes sense, but wonder if they need a bit of black in them to go with the tights, IYSWIM? TIA. 😊

You can definitely wear trainers with nude tights.

GonnaGetGoingReturns · 23/10/2022 18:52

These are nice for autumn (I'm tempted by them) and as I returned some pastel ones earlier this year/last year and now seem discontinued I'd go with something like this:

Ahhh who cares about rules. I'm a converse girl through and through they go with anything but I also love my docs.

Please don’t inflict nude tights on an innocent public …

Wearing them should actually be against the law.

Why is mumsnet so anti nude tights? It is too cold to have bare legs now and sometimes opaque tights look wrong. Nowadays you can get nude tights that look very natural.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 23/10/2022 19:03

I often wear nude tights or fishnets with a midi dress and trainers - they look better than black opaques with them imo. It's boots weather for me now, though.

How very dare you? Halloween Grin I’m not MN, I’m just me! I was forced to wear tights at school - and my legs weren’t ‘nude’ coloured so it was a trial and a bore. But even without that, I dunno - they just seem … a patriarchal imposition. As if there’s something wrong with women’s actual legs.

(Coloured tights, wool tights, fishnets - all seem fine to me.)

That's what I've done, have worn fine nude fishnets with trainers.

Would these trainers work with black opaque tights?
Leather lace ups

I’m another one who just doesn’t find boots as comfy and I’m dying to carry on wearing trainers and dresses over the autumn/winter. It’s such a useful trend, makes school drop offs a pleasure rather than hurting my feet or getting too hot.

1994girl · 28/10/2022 14:12

Who the hell wears trainers with a dress? Yuck.

Smilelesstalkmore · 28/10/2022 14:17

I'm loving Golas at the minute, these ones would look OK with tights and a dress I think.

I wear navy and rose gold trainers with navy tights and these match all my navy dresses (knee length, I don't do midi). I look great.

Oblomov22 · 28/10/2022 14:21

I had no idea. Been wearing black tights, with black dress, with my sketchers for years. Didn't realise it was a faux-pas. I'll never change though, don't care.

ferntwist · 28/10/2022 14:52

@Dogsgottabone Would love to see a link to the trainers you wear

If you’ve a second to click my link would love to know if fellow posters think these trainers look good for dresses/tights combo

ferntwist · 28/10/2022 14:53

Or even a pic of your trainers with navy tights if you don’t mind posting @Dogsgottabone

I love trainers and just want to be comfy but love my dresses too!

It’s honestly a bit late to be buying trainers to wear with dresses - you’d be a walking cliche.

Boots are a good call. Knee length for newness. Or proper old school leather loafers. (With socks, not tights.) Infinite choice available.

Are you implying boots with skirts/dresses is completely ground-breaking?! 😂...

I'd be interested to know what you end up with, OP - I wear black Nike Internationalists with black opaques and dresses, or metallic Supergas sometimes. I've even been known to wear knock-off New Look Converse, and no-one's keeled over in horror yet! Or not directly in front of me, at least.

Have you not got eyes? Pretty much everyone.

I do agree it's harder to do in winter (ref: tights issue) but it's up to the individual.

Gruelle · 28/10/2022 15:43

Oh dear! No, @Laquila - I didn’t actually mean that, though I can see it might read that way. You know what I meant!

lurchermummy · 28/10/2022 16:13

@Gruelle I'm a walking cliche then and I don't give a flying f@*%

Dogsgottabone · 28/10/2022 16:17

They're in the wash at the moment but it's these though mine look a lot more knackered now.

Going to order some of those gola navy and gold ones up thread thanks for the link!

Dogsgottabone · 28/10/2022 16:18

Ps. No one has ever blinked at me wearing these at work with my navy tights

FfayeN · 28/10/2022 16:18

Couldn't you get some dark converse to go with tights? That's totally still in? And perfectly normal! X

Lottapianos · 28/10/2022 16:27

'It’s honestly a bit late to be buying trainers to wear with dresses - you’d be a walking cliche.'

My gosh, there are some bananas comments on here🤦🏻‍♂️

I don't get all the shock horror about trainers, tights and skirts / dresses. I live in East London and it's practically a uniform at weekends round here. I wear trainers, lo and hi tops (shock!), with black, grey or navy tights in the winter. Fishnets or patterned tights also excellent.

OP, I don't have a specific pair for you but I often search for teenage boys trainers - they have a much more interesting colour range than women's collections in general. Enjoy being comfy!

averythinline · 11/11/2022 09:56

Birkenstock think called bend ...they are great if you have bunions....have the black leather ones and quality fantastic...you can replace the insole if you want.... have worn with dresses/skirts and even though i have big feet they aren't clumsy....

Agreed - DB lives in Hackney and I go there a lot and trainers/tights/skirts/dresses - it goes all the time - even black/nude etc.

I admit I did used to wear suede chelsea boots or black Top Shop ankle boots with dresses and tights in colder weather but wouldn't rule out trainers either...
