Does it look a bit old now?

@limitededitionbarbie
@CornishTiger

Thank you both very much!
I was brown for years so took a while to get there!

This was the day I had it done. ( I’ll ask mnhq to delete at some point)

This is so lovely! Especially for winter.

I always want to go dark or red in the winter but chicken out as it sticks to blonde.

I think I may try copper this winter though.

I’m not sure balayage could ever go away - it’s the most natural way to highlight. If you look at a child’s hair, the way it lifts in the sun / just strands here and there and always around the mid length to ends - rarely at the root. And most around the face. That’s balayage.

I would say most of the photos posted on here aren’t true balayage as they are over done - it’s hard to keep it looking subtle with subsequent treatments - we can’t just keep having balayage done over and over or it looks like a block colour. I think the key is to let it grow out and/or get lowlights every 3rd or so treatment. I like to see strands of colour not block and a root drag looks more fresh and is easier to maintain greys.

I used to get it twice a year but switched to full head highlights to cover the greys

I think it’s great when done well & subtly.

To all those saying it's just a technique. I know!
But it is also, of it's time.
A current trend. If you will.

Ombre and high contrast highlights done using the balyage technique have had their day imo but not balyage in and of itself. I certainly hope not anyway, it's by far the most natural techinique for lightening as long as you stay within a couple of shades of your natural colour.

And I believe the stripey 90s highlights are on their way back 😂

Does it have to be one or the other?
