Not sure if exactly style- but any recommendations for thermal underwear?

To save on heating costs. Ideally a vest type top.
I have had a look online, but not sure what to look for.
I also don't know what makes a garment "thermal" other than just another base layer.
If anyone has bought some cosy underwear please let me know.

I recommend M&S thin scoop neck long sleeve tops. They are thin enough to wear under any other garment and add a lot of coziness. Heattech is the name I believe. I have about 6 in different colors. They also heattech plus which is much thicker fleecy material. One of those plus a cardi is nearly too much for indoors.

Sorry heatgen

BrownTableMat · 13/10/2022 14:49

I agree with all the PPs: Uniqlo heattech or Marks heatgen

I've bought a selection of thermal tops from Uniglo, M&S and Sainsbury to get me through the winter. They are surprisingly thin when you first look at them, but definitely much better than ordinary t shirts or vests. The Sainsbury one is a bit cheaper but can be itchy at times. I'm tending to wear either a sleeved thermal top or a normal top with a thermal vest/camisole underneath. The Uniglo socks are also very comfortable.

Mine are from mountain warehouse, i wear them on the motorbike

I wear the M&S heatgen long sleeve tops pretty much from October to May., as I really do feel the cold. They have two thicknesses, the normal one and the more fleecy lined one. They wash and tumble dry really well.

As others have suggested, M&S. I have both the tinner and thicker versions. Both are great. I bought a very similar one from Sainsburys but it's not as warm and seems to irritate my skin!

FelicityFlops · 13/10/2022 17:24

Patra silk, every time.

VisitingThem · 13/10/2022 21:38

I've got the M&S ones and the Uniqlo ones. I think they are both equally toasty. My only complaint is they can get a bit smelly if I've done a lot of walking or moving about.

You need merino wool. Any brand as long as it's pure wool (or merino/silk blend). Vests/camisoles or long-sleeved styles are both good.

speakout · 14/10/2022 06:04

Thanks for all the suggestions. I can't wear wool next to my skin. Even merino is irritating to me.
I hadn't thought of silk though- that may work.

I prefer the MnS fleece lined tops. I have a few lace thermal cami’s by John Lewis but the quality is poor

BrownTableMat · 14/10/2022 08:13

I love silk thermals and have some from Lands End and from Patra. But I find they’re nowhere near as warm as the synthetic ones from Uniqlo or M and S.

JudgeRindersMinder · 14/10/2022 08:26

Landsend have a sale on just now -40% off full price items, brings a silk thermal vest down from £50 to £30!
