A call out to find the perfect a/w loafers....

Am trying to complete my collection of absolute staples. Come to think of it it could be the start of a capsule!

Navy wool pea coat, slim ankle grazers or a mini skirt with black opaque tights and I need the perfect loafers.

I've come to realise what I really want it quite a high vamp. I think it makes it more comfortable anyway but I prefer the look.

I like a little bit of an androgynous style so not too delicate, but not hugely chunky, not matte leather or suede, not patent, but a nice sheeny glossy leather would be perfect.

I keep coming back to Dr martens adrian, I like them but I'm not sure all those tassles wouldn't end up all curly.

I don't have a huge budget for Russell and Bromley, but I do want them to be high enough quality to last.
I tried the orinoco 2 from clarks but something is off for me. I like the simple bar (not too blingy) but the front is definitely too low.
Anyone any ideas?

loafers

I like these.

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 10/10/2022 22:00

Oh those Oliver Bonas ones are just exactly what I didn't know I was looking for! Thanks OP Hmm Grin

FfayeN · 10/10/2022 22:02

Go to Vinted...there are hundreds of Russell and Bromley almost new on there for a fraction of the price! X

I think if you got any of these you’d just wish you had bought the DM Adrians. I’m on my second pair in Oxblood. They just look great with everything. The tassels don’t go curly, and it’s just a perfect, classic, design. They take a bit of breaking in, but then you can wear them all day and walk miles in them (I regularly do a 6k return walk to work in mine). They’re effortless.

OxanaVorontsova · 11/10/2022 05:59

I have these from la redoute

Madagascary · 11/10/2022 06:42

they need to be clumpy imo

Charley50 · 11/10/2022 06:50

Try Hudson

Afterfire · 11/10/2022 07:16

I’m not a fan of the yellow stitching on the dm ones. Otherwise they’re lovely!

I am very tempted by many of these. I just struggle because in my head I feel like they’re school shoes 😊🙈 I am 41 and these are exactly what we all used to wear - albeit often with a chunkier sole- in the mid 90s! But then I guess that’s fashion going in circles for you.

Afterfire · 11/10/2022 07:19

Ooooo just found the dm ones without the yellow !

I feel like I need loafers now. Currently on the train to my first formal work meeting of the autumn in ballet flats. Will they laugh me out of the meeting room for my faux Pas?

AllMyExesWearRolexes · 11/10/2022 08:05

GH Bass? I have these.

I think you might be right. I did this with sandals similar to the dms but cheaper, then bought the dms anyway!

So..with or without yellow stitching, and whether to look at the chunkier sole ones (bex?)

To be honest, I'll choose whichever have a good discount!

@Afterfire haha I have the same issue and I’m 42.
With some of them, sadly the DMs, I feel like I need to wear them with slouch socks and a bad perm.
I love the geox ox blood though

Justkoko · 11/10/2022 13:33

@ShandaLear are the oxblood like the rub off type leather that is red underneath? They're a beautiful colour but I have some flora's in this and the rub off is looking a bit scruffy now. Would be easier if they weren't rub off. I've asked the customer care about it before and I don't think you can touch it up either.

OK so I sent for a few of these suggestions:
Marks heeled loafers - very comfy, don't even feel like heels, very nice, just not my style.
Kickers - good chunky comfy loafer.
Top of the list is the Dr Martens Adrian though. I think its what I've been hankering after for some time and I've come to realise if I buy something else I'll still hanker after these anyway!
Only problem is, which colour! I love the oxblood (I have floras in this colour) the only thing that bothers me is the inevitable rub off of the very dark colour making them look aged. I would rather they stay as they are.
Otherwise the black ones are very distinctively doc martens with the yellow stitching. I like them both. To be worn with tights, jeans, trousers, bare ankles, socks, basically anything!

If you're concerned about the colour fade, go for the black...classic and will go with everything! Xx

tiredofthiisshit21 · 12/10/2022 17:37

Defo the black. I like the yellow stitching.

FeralWitch · 12/10/2022 17:40

Thanks for this thread, OP. Those OB loafers are exactly what I needed. Ordered!

Justkoko · 12/10/2022 17:42

I get that the colour is designed to rub off but my floras just don't feel as smart one the colour was removed in places. I want the loafers to stay looking really smart.

I have the same Flora's and have been tempted by the loafers but feel the same about the rub off. Although I have had my flora's for years and the rub off isn't too bad, but I just love the pristine look on the loafers. I prefer without the yellow stitching too!

Justkoko · 12/10/2022 19:14

@woodstocky I know! I think the red ones are smarter but not once the top coat starts rubbing off!

I’m coveting these at the moment!

OMG I adore these! 😍

PeekabooAtTheZoo · 12/10/2022 19:22

Have you had DMs before OP? I was really disappointed with a pair of their mary janes, the top rubbed my ankle bones as they were far too high and the soles were too heavy for me to wear regularly. Always felt off balance going up and down stairs due to the weight of the soles. I refused to accept I’d made such an expensive mistake though and insisted on keeping them for 8 years. 😅
