i think i'm having a midlife clothes crisis

went shopping today to find an outfit for a hen do (fist of the Second Wedding hen parties!)

ok, part of the problem may have been that the shops were stuffed with a mix of sales tat plus spring daywear, but i couldn't find anything that i even remotely liked

and really didn't identify with any of the shops

eg

oasis, warehouse, zara, mango, house of fraser therapy: too young and poor quality

hobbs, principles: too dull

karen millen: too wierd atm (tank top with built in frilly blouse, anyone?)

episode, jaeger, phase eight: too old and sensible

the only brand i even vaguely liked was whistles and they had nothing going-out-y

[grump]

is it just me, or is there a gap in the market? (37 yr olds who want to look their age but who aren't ready to give up on stylish clothes just yet???)

Yes I totally agree with you - am 37 too. I tend to buy stuff from M & S Limited Collection - might be worth looking at? They have some very weird stuff but also well cut trousers, nice pencil skirts and lots of silk dresses and shirts.

MaryAnnSingleton · 26/01/2008 12:29

Jigsaw
Kew
Hobbs isn't dull in my opinion !

MaureenMLove · 26/01/2008 12:35

I had this very conversation with Kbear last night. We're both in our 40th birthday year and we can't find anything that's right. It's all very well keeping up with fashion, but you can look like mutton, if you get it wrong. There doesn't seem to be an in between being still young enough to wear leggins (yuk!) and wearing a twin set!

CaptainCod · 26/01/2008 12:36

what kind of hting did oyu haev in mind?

Kbear · 26/01/2008 13:09

I'm sticking with the tried and tested sequinned boobtube and satin trousers combo .

ZippiBabes · 26/01/2008 13:13

i shop in new look river island mainly

with a few plain bits like v neck t shirts and thin v necked jumpers from next (which over all i think sells awful stuff) and dp (ditto)

one or two things from monsoon..i did get some sale baragins there a little jacket and a gilet

but then i can't afford "good" clothes but then i didn't buy them when i had a rich husband either lol i just don't have a good clothes personality

Principles is ok with a bit of vintage and top shop thrown in I have to agree with cod(against my better judgement) re leather look bomber I bought a really dark brown fitted one and it has been really useful.

carmenelectra · 26/01/2008 16:44

I must look like mutton dressed as lamb. I LOVE Oasis and Warehouse, River Island. FCUK, Republic.

carmenelectra · 26/01/2008 16:44
