Cowboy boots

I am drawn to the look of western boots. I look crap in them. I think it's my chunky calves. Why do they look rubbish on me? I look fine in elegant heeled boots or chunky combat style boots but western boots long or short styles look so weird on me

Cowboy boots only look good on cowboys.

It’s not you, it’s your career choice.

DeanStockwelll · 08/10/2022 22:09

If I wouldn't get stared at and laughed at I would go full on cowboy all the time , I already live in jeans, t-shirt and denim or leather jacket when I am not at work. I'd love to have the boots waistcoat and hat too
But like you @quitelikelyto the boots don't fit and look wrong on me and the hat well ummm . . . Maybe at the next American car / horse show

quitelikelyto · 08/10/2022 22:23

😂I'm not taking yeehaw cowboy boots. I'm talking this sort of thing

I had a pair of Kurt Geiger cowboy boots bought c2001. I loved them. Had them heeled and soled a gazillion times then inexplicably got rid. I mourn those boots every season since. They were perfect.

I do like them type too but you need pipe cleaner legs for the , esp the type that the lady with the brown satchel has. Infact hers look photo shopped to me

TheLightSideOfTheMoon · 08/10/2022 22:40

Oh, I was picturing something wildly different…

The image in my head was very yee-haw.

But the last image is with quite loose jeans so legs could be a little more robust than toothpicks. I agree, that one picture is quite unrealistic. But do people generally need to have fairly lean pins. Is that why I look shit in them?

I am not sure , I have legs like tree trunks and can generally only just get willy boots on

DeanStockwelll · 08/10/2022 23:28

Argg welly boots not willy boots , willy boots are a entirely different concept and not what I would wear walking down the street !

JackieDaws · 08/10/2022 23:34

I've a couple of pairs, a blue suede pair from Joe Brown's, and a black leather pair from Kurt Geiger. I mostly wear them with dresses and skirts because I feel too costumey wearing them with jeans. And I have fair tree trunk legs.

There's a guy in my town who wears a stetson and boots. He's inspired a few of the teen lads to get similar hats.

dudsville · 09/10/2022 09:05

It's interesting isn't it how this can cause a dilemma. Sometimes watching those shows like Virginia River makes me want to also go a little cowboy but it would feel like dress up. I wonder if actual cowboy boots are comfortable.

Gronkle · 09/10/2022 09:20

Cowboy boots have what is known as a Cuban Heel, if you Google that you'll get loads of different styles, not necessarily all a cowboy style.

But it's not specifically the Cuban heel I'm after. It's the overall pointy toe, stitching embellishment thing

Have a look at Ariat.

well known equestrian brand but moved into making western boots.

tiddlywinks2 · 09/10/2022 16:16

I love my cowboy boots!
My legs are not skinny either, I bought mine in Australia around 6 years ago, they are still going strong.

tiddlywinks2 · 09/10/2022 16:17

I adore these!! What style are you looking for?

I have a blue pair from joe browns and a tan pair from TU and I live in them! They’re so good for transitioning seasons, I wear them with midi dresses and bare legs then with tights when it’s colder. They’re perfect for weather like today (south east) where it’s sunny but a bit of a chill so too cold for sandals but too warm for tights and boots. I have fairly trunky legs and they look good on me so I’ve been told! The key for me is making sure they’re loose on the ankle, not fitted.

SlippinKimmy · 09/10/2022 16:27

I’ve got two pairs from Frye, one tan leather plain pair which I used to live in in the noughties, and then I went and bought a dark leather embroidered pair that are definitely more ‘yee-haw’ that I’ve never really been brave enough to wear! They are a thing of beauty and I hate wasting them, perhaps I should try the midi-dress option to ease myself in. I would recommend Frye boots 100%, not cheap but will last a lifetime.

KirstenBlest · 09/10/2022 16:32

I have a pair of Frye boots too. Black and without the cowboy styling. They go with almost anything.

The willy boots made me smile.

MrsHamlet · 09/10/2022 16:33

I have a pair of Ariat boots I bought in Texas. Tan leather, turquoise detail, pointy toe, riding heel. I love them and wear them fairly regularly.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 09/10/2022 16:34

Willy boots😂

DeanStockwelll · 09/10/2022 19:11

I have disappeared down a boot worm hole , there are so many out there that I would like but mot brave enough / have the legs to wear plus lots of ankle boots I would like too buy but my word they can be expensive !

One thing I can highly recommend is this www.carrdaymartin.com/en/products/leather-care/carrs-leather-oil-300ml/ .
It is designed to be used on horse tack but is good on any leather .
one tin last me about two years and I have one leather jacket, 3 pairs leather boots ( work safety type ) and 2 belts all of which get oiled every few months .

To use it -
make sure the item is real leather , dont use it on suede or nubuck ( it wont harm it but will change the colour to much darker )
Ensure the item is very dry or you will seal the moisture in .
Have the item and oil at room / body temp.
Put a little of the oil into a suitable bowl
Using a soft cloth , I use a old cotton tshirt apply the oils a small amount at a time rubbing it in with circular motions.
Allow the item to stand for 2 hours or so . if the oil has soaked in all over or in parts repeat the above until no more oil is quickly absorbed.

Let the item stand for at least 24 hrs before wearing it , with belts I would recommend 2 or 3 days to ensure the oil doesn't leach out onto your cloths when under pressure .
All items can then be buffed with a clean soft cloth , you wont get a shine on them like you would do with shoe polish but they will be waterproof and supple .
its very useful when breaking in tough boots !

( it does smell a bit odd but that very quickly fades )

DeanStockwelll · 09/10/2022 19:12

PS dont use it on your willy boots ! 😂

MrsHamlet · 09/10/2022 19:47

I love them... both pairs 🤣
