Are my Vejas a total cliche?

Confusedandperplexed · 01/10/2022 19:03

Honest opinions please. I’ve got these ones.

I thought they were really trendy when I bought them last year but I haven’t worn them as much as I thought. Feel a bit of a walking cliche. Also dh says they make my feet look huge!

honesty please! Have seen some pink new balance. Trendier?

Are my Vejas a total cliche?

I like them and got some recently. What size are you?

Lagirl20 · 01/10/2022 19:12

They’re lovely! I have vejas bought in 2020, white with black “V”. I love them but I definitely regret buying a black/white colour way, I think lighter colour ways or all white is more subtle. I’ll keep wearing them because they were expensive but the next pair of white trainers I buy I think will be Stan Smiths or something very understated.

TattiePants · 01/10/2022 19:15

I prefer my New Balance or Stan Smiths but I still wear my Vejas (green and white) about once a week. Apparently that makes me a middle class cliche (according to some threads on here) but who cares!

hattie43 · 01/10/2022 19:36

Does it really matter . You presumably bought them because you liked them so get on and wear them .

DSGR · 01/10/2022 19:51

They are lovely but I find white trainers with any form of skirt or dress SO mumsy

Moancup · 01/10/2022 19:52

They are, but does it matter?

feckingknackered · 01/10/2022 19:53

I bought som last year and loved them but they have worn really badly and look cheap. I won't buy them again

NeverCleanAgain · 01/10/2022 19:53

I’m not too keen on the gold but I don’t think they’re any more of a cliche than DM’s, Converse, Birkenstocks etc. They’re just a popular brand of shoe that are having a moment.

LynneBenfield · 01/10/2022 19:56

Very, but that’s fine.

deedledeedledum · 01/10/2022 20:01

Very cliche but so are lots of things so wear what you want

Puppers · 01/10/2022 20:08

I think they definitely do have a middle class mum vibe and yes they are a bit of a cliché, but that only matters if you care what people think. Someone else has said that they think DMs and Converse are a cliché - I personally disagree because they've both been around for decades (75+ years) and are worn by a very wide range of people of all ages with very different styles, but it goes to show that people will silently judge and make assumptions about whatever you wear. Better to just dress for yourself and not concern yourself with what others may think.

SavingsThreads · 01/10/2022 20:13

I disagree that white trainers with dresses/skirts are mumsy. I'm single 20s in London and everyone wears them, inc for work! Nothing to do with being a mum

HappyMediocreTime · 01/10/2022 20:19

tbh they only have middle class mum vibes if you're around other middle class mums. My dd goes to school in a very working class area and I don't think I've ever seen them and no one would care or judge if they did.

shouldbesleepingnotscrolling · 01/10/2022 20:27

Air & Grace trainers? They’re similar and super comfortable, most comfy trainers Ive ever had.

Afterfire · 01/10/2022 20:30

Well certain styles of new balance (ie the new 327s) are supposedly the “in” thing if you want that…? But your trainers are fine, they’re smart and look very much like adidas Stan smiths which are good basic classic trainers. I have to admit I’d never heard of Vejas until Mumsnet! 🫣😆 I tend to spend my life on Schuh and Asos browsing shoes and I don’t think they’re a brand they stock so I wouldn’t have known they exist!

ColdLittleHeart · 01/10/2022 20:45

The problem here isn’t the trainers..it’s that you’re bothered about random people’s opinion on them. If you like them, wear them!

Agreed

TheOGCCL · 01/10/2022 23:28

Vejas are ultimately a trendy shoe at the moment, probably waning in popularity as they've increased in popularity! I tend to see mostly women in their thirties and forties wearing them, and this group is also most likely to be pushing a pram or have kids in tow in my area so they become a bit synonymous with 'trendy mum'.

I guess some might say cliche, others trendy about anything that is in.

They seem expensive for 'vegan' (non) leather.

MrsPicklesonSmythe · 01/10/2022 23:39

I don't get it, cliche in what way?
Why would you care?

Also disagree that trainers with skirts/dresses is mumsy it isn't at all.

Isn't fashion supposed to make you feel good? Trying to keep up with what's in and what's not is just trying hard not to be a try hard and it sounds exhausting. Wear what you want and sod everyone else.

Some days I wear clothes covered in bleach stains other days I wear sequins on the school run. I'd think it was hilarious if anyone gave a shit enough to comment on it. Wear your lovely trainers.

LadyVictoriaSponge · 02/10/2022 00:03

hattie43 · 01/10/2022 21:27

Agreed

Disagree, trainers and dresses are so ubiquitous and rather than looking on trend now looks clichéd, it’s reached saturation point, it’s pretty much a uniform.

ImJustMadAboutSaffron · 02/10/2022 00:29

I wear these and I don't give a fig what anyone else thinks!

trilobiterevival · 02/10/2022 00:35

it's an odd thought though, isnt it? ..to consider an item of clothing to be a cliche.
i think it's a strange side effect of what some call 'late stage capitalism', modern decadence, that we overthink these things so much - and I am guilty of it too!

We are privileged to have so much choice, the ability to make purchases, so it seems counterproductive to hold such pessimistic opinions of our own or other people's shoe choices. I mean if you really think about it, it's kind of weird. It is, after all, just another contemporary trainer that will end up in landfill like all the others out there. Or maybe it will get recycled....I am now thinking of it' journey from your shameful foot to the end of it's life Grin

I could be a walking cliche for all that I am aware. I would hazard a guess that absolutely no one out there would even consider it or care. At the end of the day, we are not really that special, and those who think we are won't judge!

The thing is OP has admitted that she bought them cos she thought they were trendy. Not mentioned anything about liking them. So she obviously buys into the whole brand and status thing.

Do you like them? Are they comfortable? Then wear them. Personally I don't like white trainers because they are not practical for my lifestyle and would be permanently filthy. This is why all my trainers are black.
