Rant about Vinted

ChilliPB · 23/09/2022 07:40

Just a proper rant really!

I try and buy a lot of my stuff second hand an usually get stuff on eBay and have never had a problem, but Vinted just has been a nightmare.

Sellers don’t respond to messages, or take ages to do so. I was interested in an item and asked a question, three weeks later the seller replies.

Bought a different item from a different seller, who now a week later hasn’t dispatched or replied to my messages so if it’s not sent shortly I’ll have to cancel and try and get a refund 😫They are meant to send in 7 days. EBay often sellers send within a day or two.

Have I been unlucky? Should I give up? Any tips for avoiding crap sellers?

I love it in the main but I am looking and selling normal high street stuff (got dd a cropped hoodie for a quid which is the talk of yr 8!). I have my very first issue where the lovely buyer posted but the courier has lost so I am going to have to report an issue today I think.

Vinted automatically gave me shipping methods I can’t use. I thought I’d set up Royal Mail only.

anyway along comes a buyer who made an offer and I said “sure, but I can only do Royal Mail”. She went ahead and selected a courier.

42 fucking miles away for a drop off. 84 mile round trip? I don’t fucking think so.

so I didn’t send it - and I couldn’t find anywhere on Vinted to cancel it and get her money back to her asap so ended up just having to wait ages. I felt shit for her - but more annoyed at Vinted for “improving” my courier options.

Re cancellation- I discovered this the other day! You click on the "i" in the corner of your chat with them and it gives you the option to cancel.

I've sold some stuff on Vinted this month for the first time. About half a dozen items. Posted them straight away. Buyers all chose Inpost or Evri. It's been over a week since I posted anything and none of the items have arrived. Which means I won't get the money and I'm out of pocket. I know it's not Vinted's fault but it has put me right off!

On inPost & Evri the postage fee usually goes to Vinted and you just print the label and send

If that’s the case the issue with missing items is Vinteds problem with the carrier

The buyer gets their money back and you still get paid - there may be extra delay and you may need to flag it in support

If you received the postage money and had to buy the labels yourself then the buyer gets refunded, Vinted don’t pay out and you claim against the carrier

I had one that was marked as delivered to the doorstop but the buyer reported as not received
I was asked by Vinted for a description / photos of the package (I had not photographed that one so just described it)
An extra couple of days later it was closed with the buyer refunded and my payout released

okytdvhuoo · 23/09/2022 09:05

The whole vinted set up seemed dodgy to me, leaving buyers high and dry if there are any issues. From memory the platform also didn’t seem to conform to uk consumer law.

I made the decision never to use it.

WalkingOnSonshine · 23/09/2022 09:06

I’ve only had one issue with Vinted, where a seller sent a fragile item in a carrier bag with no protection and her kids had put half chewed items in the bag. Obviously it broke and would have cost more to return.

Ive noticed in the past 2-3 months that a lot more sellers have joined & are selling things in poor condition but labelling them as very good, blurry photos or creased items that just don’t look that appealing.

It’s mentioned on here daily so people are jumping on that bandwagon to try and sell their tat instead of chucking or donating it, and want 75% of the RRP for a used item!

Ghskl78888 · 23/09/2022 09:11

I have had v. Good experiences as a seller and buyer. However I filtered condition for new with tags or new without tags. Went on to read the descriptions. At least three I saw read "Only worn a few times" 🤔

Gensola · 23/09/2022 09:16

Yes there is a trend for people trying to sell used clothes and shoes for really high prices. Worn converse for £40 no thanks 😅

mummyh2016 · 23/09/2022 09:22

You can't print evri labels in store with Vinted.
Check reviews. I went to purchase something the other day, the seller had 10 reviews all bad saying items weren't ever sent. I presume that seller uploaded a load of stuff then forgot about it.
I've been using it for a few months and had no bad experiences. I've got two items sent in the last couple of weeks that have stopped tracking - they were sent via Evri and Inpost though so Vinted will refund the purchaser and compensate me. No biggie.

Stayathomenamechange · 23/09/2022 09:26

As well as reviews you can see when a seller was last active on the app by clicking on their profile. If it was within the last couple of days I think I'm safe to go ahead and buy. Just a little extra check!

SpinningFloppa · 23/09/2022 10:02

I’ve had the same experience as you so no not just you, sellers take a week to post?! What’s that about most people post next day on eBay 🤦🏻 Sellers who have something up for sale But it was listed a while ago so you message them “is this available still?”
they say yes, you buy it and they never send it! That’s happened to me at least 3 times, bought something from someone then a week later she tells me she took it to the post office and it’s going to be more than what she put so she’s cancelling it?! Told me this after making me wait a week. Bought something 2 weeks ago not received it yet. Rubbish.

CollieWobble22 · 23/09/2022 10:08

I had a little rant on another thread this morning

  1. seller didn't pay enough for the package and it returned to sender. Sender won't acknowledge it has arrived so I haven't had a refund yet

  2. item has clearly shrunk in the wash so didn't fit. Sender accused of me being fat in her feedback. Nice! (I had actually sized up for comfort so was shocked when it was clearly tiny. Even the arms were too short. I'm 5ft 2!)

  3. another parcel failed to get sent at all!

Anyway, my rant is over 🤣

Gr33ngr33ngr4ss · 23/09/2022 12:38

I've had really positive experiences to be fair. Everything I've bought has been what I expected. I'm used to it taking a bit longer now.

Giftwithpurchase · 23/09/2022 15:35

I'm a reseller on eBay and so use Vinted quite a bit mainly to source vintage stuff. It can be pretty hit and miss - really depends on the seller. Their refund policy is terrible - non existent really, which isn't great with the recent increase in sellers who don't really 'get' how to sell secondhand items (asking too much and not describing condition accurately). I've had lots of items which were described as very good but turn up looking like rags!
I would advise asking seller a question first and see if they respond - or make an offer. That's usually a good indicator of how responsive they'll be

puddingandsun · 23/09/2022 15:44

You've just reminded me I bought an item a week ago and still haven't got the dispatched emails... Need to chase that.

Also, I bought a kids' animal onesie for dressing up. It didn't have the tail on arrival (attachable by velcro). I messaged. They said they didn't notice.

I don't feel it's reasonable to ask for them to post separately (and not pay postage myself) but also feels a bit unfair they didn't pay better attention!

QuestionableMouse · 23/09/2022 15:47

incognitodorrito · 23/09/2022 08:02

Purchase automatically cancels if seller doesn’t send item within 5 days. Admittedly I have been that seller, as I don’t have a printer for evri / yodel labels and need to go to a friends house for printing which is a hassle. I now insist buyer chooses Royal Mail on item descrip as that’s the easiest postage option for me. Almost every buyer ignores this and chooses a cheaper option. For the sake of an item I’m selling at £2 I can’t always be bothered to go back and forth with the buyer so I’ll just cancel sale straight and add in comments that they didn’t choose the right postage option.

Yodel and In Post both don't require a printer. You get a code that you either get scanned at the shop or the locker

Roomytrouser · 23/09/2022 15:51

I really like it in general but I’ve just been told an item I really want hadn’t been posted and an automatic refund has been issued. The seller has also been in touch to say they’ve been ill. I’d like to buy again and I’d have been happy to wait longer but I’m going to need to see when the seller reposts.

OceanbreezeSun · 23/09/2022 15:54

I buy a lot from Vinted - overall, I really like it. I think I’ve bought about 25 items from their & maybe had 3 bad experiences.

I think the customer service needs to be improved, it’s pretty slow and they give generic responses.

I always check feedback as well as when the seller was last active. If they were last active 2 months ago but still have items for sale, it’s safe to say they probably won’t respond to messages or actually send the item.

Heytheredeliah · 23/09/2022 16:20

I know how you feel. I bought something off vinted a while ago and the seller sent me a message 4 days later saying she could not post the item because she couldn't find it! FFS

Heytheredeliah · 23/09/2022 16:21

Overall I love vinted but some sellers are awful

underneaththeash · 23/09/2022 16:49

I sell a lot on vinted. I only have Evri or inpost as an option. No issues. I don’t take offers for anything (and now actually put that on my listing).
if it hasn’t sold within 3 months it goes to the charity shop.
mine isuue I did have though 7 months ago, was not getting notified when I had a sale. It’s since been sorted - there was an email issue, rather than me having notifications turned off. But, there were two people who’d bought something I never sent.

BamBamBilla · 23/09/2022 16:54

Vinted the app works fine for me as both a seller and a buyer. Payments are quick, I've turned off the postage methods I won't use. Its easy to list which unfortunately means you get loads of lazy sellers with blurry pictures, no descriptions or inaccurate descriptions of the item. Sellers take too long to post or send a glass gar candle in a plastic bag and wonder why I'm asking for a refund because it arrived smashed. Hmm

I can't be bothered to ask more questions like what material it is made of or actual measurements, they don't deserve my money to make a sale if they can't list properly. There are just as many good sellers than poor ones and I always read the reviews.

cannaethink · 23/09/2022 18:52

Vinted seems to give off a younger vibe to me. I think there's probably a lot of sellers who've never done eBay so don't know the way we think it should be done!
I still use it loads though, for buying and selling. When I'm selling I always put lots of photos, lots of details, measurements, materials etc in the hope it might catch on Grin
I've not had any problems with selling but had my fair share of orders getting auto cancelled, and unanswered questions and offers not getting responded to. It's frustrating but it's cheap!

StamppotAndGravy · 23/09/2022 19:21

The reviews are really unreliable. Loads of sellers give bad reviews in revenge if you don't give 5*and they can be edited after.

WithABiffBangPow · 23/09/2022 20:09

I hear you, op.
I'm a newcomer to Vinted and I've 'bought' 6 things.
2 items were never posted so purchase was cancelled, never heard from sellers.
2 items arrived promptly.
Another was was lost and I was refunded and 1 is currently lost somewhere in the ether and I'm waiting to be able to claim a refund.
Maybe I've been unlucky too but it's not been an excellent experience so far.

Haudyourwheesht · 23/09/2022 20:12

Ive been on Vinted for a while and really happy with them. I've only had an issue once: when am item wasn't posted within 7 days so I got an automatic refund. I'm not looking for high end or rare stuff tho - mainly dressy stuff for my toddlers to save me having to pay high street prices for things they'll only wear a handful of times. I've also sold quite a bit and never had any bother.
