Teeth whitening

Can anyone recommend a good teeth whitening product? I tried whitening strips from Boots but they weren't any good. I'm not a smoker but maybe a smokers toothpaste would be good? Maybe not though, could be too strong? As you can see I've no idea, so if anyone has had success with something could you share your secret please? 😁

This thing.... Saw it on mumsnet few months ago and got addicted to it :) Joke, but it does really help on removing surface stains, especially if you smoke or drink too much coffee or tea ...second pic is a little bit brighter but difference is obvious, its about after 2 weeks of using...I would recommend this or strips. Strips are good too

I use this uk.hismileteeth.com as the strips are not bleach. (Hydrogen Peroxide, which can bloody hurt if your teeth are at all sensitive.)
It does make my teeth look cleaner and brighter although they're still not white. But it has improved the natural greige colour.
I suspect it would work better if your teeth are yellowish. Mine are not.
They also do colour correcting foams and pastes.

@BonkiBo Nice! Is one tube enough to get these results?

Yes, it lasts forever.. its a powder, not a toothpaste

greyinggranny · 26/10/2022 21:01

Just to say, I used the Cleopatra's powder thing. It works okay but if any of your teeth are capped, the black powder goes behind the cap and it's really hard to get rid of

If you log into Amazon.com and order crest white strips from america. They are very good and affordable

Glad to see I'm not the only one who uses cleopatras powder. My daughter ordered it and I was like "why is my toialet all in black"??? But yes, it does whiten :)

BigButtons · 26/10/2022 22:10

Charcoal is abrasive to enamel- I would not touch that.

Medical activated charcoal yes, but coconut isn't.

AreYouAFeminist · 26/10/2022 22:57

@BonkiBo or buy hydrogen peroxide in the chemist and use it as a mouthwash. Amazing white teeth but amazingly sensitive teeth. Sensodyne is your friend

I never tried that before and honestly I don't need it now, especially if it makes teeth sensitive. But it must be pricey, right?

Lellochip · 26/10/2022 23:12

Anything you buy over the counter in the UK might be fine for lifting stains but aren't strong enough to lighten the colour of your actual teeth as there are quite strict limits on the strengths that are legal here.

I would avoid things that remove staining by being abrasive (the charcoal scrubs etc) - they can cause damage to the enamel.

For actual teeth bleaching you can either use whitening strips from outside the UK (Crest are the most popular, and there are sites you can buy them no problem) or getting the plastic trays and gel bleach (either via your dentist, expensive but they'll be able to recommend the right strength etc, or again, you can buy them on certain websites if you know what you're looking for)

I've used crest strips before, they seem to be the cheapest/less messy option, and my dentist had no problem with them. However if your teeth aren't very straight, they might not fit neatly into the crevices (and they don't reach the back teeth anyway) so trays with gel would give better coverage in this case.

@Lellochip Not abrasive and harmful if you use it 3-4 times a week - my dentist said, but OK.
Every toothpaste brand has a charcoal toothpaste editon so...

CookWashRepeat · 27/10/2022 22:39

I wouldn't say my enamel is damaged. I've been using it for months now (daily), and my dentist didn't notice any damage except stains and yelowness gone away. Much a better solution than stripes since it made my teeth sensitive.

froggie44 · 30/10/2022 22:02

Has anyone used the crest whitening strips? Are they any good? My teeth are so discoloured. I've always brushed them well but I hate the way they look now

Lellochip · 31/10/2022 01:10

They're good, they definitely work, can cause some sensitivity though (but same with all whitening) - the only downside is they might not cover every bit of tooth if you've got any overlapping etc. (They don't reach the back ones either, but get all the ones that show normally)

Speedweed · 31/10/2022 01:49

Cleopatra stuff did nothing for my teeth.

BigButtons · 31/10/2022 06:13

Crest are good- they stick to the teeth. I have made mine go further by cutting them in half horizontally. Still covers the front surface of the teeth.

Northernlass99 · 02/11/2022 14:24

Cleopatra and crest strips did nothing for me. Think they are ok for removing surface stains but if you actually want to whiten ie bleach the teeth the trays and hydrogen peroxide from the dentist are brilliant. Shop around local dentists for a good price. I paid 200 and well worth it.
