Teeth whitening

Can anyone recommend a good teeth whitening product? I tried whitening strips from Boots but they weren't any good. I'm not a smoker but maybe a smokers toothpaste would be good? Maybe not though, could be too strong? As you can see I've no idea, so if anyone has had success with something could you share your secret please? 😁

I got trays made by my dentist & use polanight. Amazing results, I saw an improvement after a week. Teeth slightly sensitive when using it but nothing major. After you get desired results you only really need to do a top up once a month. Worth every penny imo

How much you paid for it? My dentist was kinda pricey

Newmum110 · 13/03/2023 08:01

@laura1991manchester it was about £250 but that was in 2019 & the trays are still perfect so I reckon they will last forever

GettingStuffed · 13/03/2023 10:42

I'm wondering if the reason these products don't work on everyone depends on why you're teeth don't look as white as they did. My teeth are quite yellow now but this is probably caused by my enamel thinning rather than stains.

Ttwinkletoes · 14/03/2023 07:26

Someone posted that their dentist said OTC doesn’t work but I’d be surprised if toothpaste made no difference as the makers would not be allowed to make such claims in adverts - here’s a new oral b toothpaste as an example

probably Because most of it whitens only a surface of teeth

Nothing I've tried at home, strips, toothpaste, gel and moulds works, so I have bitten the bullet and am getting Boutique whitening done via the dentist.
It is £600 but having seen the results on a friend, I'm prepared to invest in this as my teeth bring me down.

Way too expesive in my opinion

Synergy dental prestige teeth whitening £350. Dentists have access to products with 6% peroxide which is what whitens the teeth. Whereas over the counter products should be 0.1% max.

Can't purchase that online?

No you need an appointment, dentist needs to assess your teeth before giving you the product.

WoofWoofBeachLife · 15/03/2023 09:02

I have my dentist trays and moulds waiting at the clinic, I just can't afford to collect at the moment. It's £200, a good price. I hate my teeth, years of black coffee and red wine has made them disgusting. I was wondering if actual hydrogen peroxide from the chemist mixed into a paste would work. Anyone tried this? I know you can request it in rhw pharmacy but what for? I don't smile at all.

It presumably would do something, but imagine it will be a pain to mix up into something the right consistency and strength. For a cheaper option until you can get your trays I really think the Crest strips are pretty good, plus a stain-removing toothpaste if you've not already got one. I've bought from the ukteethwhitening.com site a few times before.

WoofWoofBeachLife · 15/03/2023 12:09

Thanks @Lellochip I've had a look at the website and hoping I can order next week. Even a small difference would boost my confidence x

Hismile is absolutely crap. I've tried their strips, the stain remover toothpaste and the purple stuff (they have an ad where there try it on a banana) - all rubbish!

Dentist here. Firstly, your dentist will have already had to pay for the lab charges to make your moulds. It's a bit unfair for you not to at least contribute to the cost of them, as the dentist is now out of pocket.

Secondly, please don't try a hydrogen peroxide mix. Seriously? Why would you risk your teeth like that? Without professional care you could burn your gums, you could cause resorption on your teeth, or risk serious sensitivity due to introducing harsh chemicals on to your teeth.
The formula used in the prescriptive dental whitening gels is carefully tested snd measured.

They advertise Hydrogen Peroxide as a safe whitening method . hmmmm

Justforlaffs · 20/03/2023 21:25

It is always best to try and have proper moulds made with a dentist in order to whiten your teeth - they will protect your gums better and also the stuff the dentist gives you is properly regulated. I paid £250 to go private and was given Philips zoom whitening gel to use in my trays. Really pleased with the results.

If you really can't afford it and insist on buying online I did use the crest strips in the past and was impressed with the results. But whoever suggested using hydrogen peroxide (!!!) no, please don't do that!

@typopro the practice are perfectly happy that I'm postponing collection, they know specifically why. Thank you for the information regarding HP, I had read it online about a mix and thought I would ask.

I've used the snow whitening system it cost about £130 in total but I got the kit and 4 of the whitening pens and it worked. It does make your teeth a bit sensitive but only whilst using it for a few days in a row. I've found after lots of research that there's only one brand in the UK that has hydrogen peroxide in it and it's a much lower percentage so will take longer to see results. I've posted a screen shot of my results I wanted to see if it really worked!

Nice results
