Late 50s grey haired invisible woman seeks tinted moisturiser

I need some guidance, please.

Despite loving my grey hair I find myself looking dull and, quite frankly, old.

Have never bothered with foundation etc previously, but now feel I need to add something to my skin to make me look less drab; more alive. What would that be? Tinted moisturiser type potion?

It needs to be: very easy to apply; not make me look 'made-up'; not be sparkly; easy to choose the correct shade (I'm pale to medium).

I have funds if that helps.

It’s hard to find a good tinted moisturiser these days!
I really love this one: www.bareminerals.co.uk/face-makeup/tinted-moisturiser-and-bb-cream/complexion-rescue-tinted-moisturiser/UKmastercomrescue.html

it’s so light and easy to apply with fingers or brush, and contains SPF. I would suggest going to a shop to check shade though.

bbcdefg · 19/09/2022 07:44

I use a garnier or Olay cc or bb cream. Would that work for you?

Willowwarble · 19/09/2022 07:52

From another 50 something invisible woman. I had been using Bourjois CC cream for years, now they have appeared to stop making it so had a similar search. May I recommend L'Oreal True Match Nude Serum, it gives a nice blur to imperfections and a healthy look without being sparkly and a natural "not made up" look. I am pale and the light shade is perfect.

Clinique Dramatically Different BB moisturizer.
Game changer. Even my pupils are asking what I'm using. And these girls have Russian lashes.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 19/09/2022 08:01

It's lipstick that's needed with grey hair in my experience. Sounds like your skin is ok if you haven't used foundation/tinted moisturiser before.

I’m a little older than you. I would recommend Chantecaille, which is stocked at Space NK. The tinted moisturiser is called Just Skin and the very light, sheer foundation is called Future Skin. Laura Mercier also has a good tinted moisturiser which is a lot cheaper. I would also recommend going in for a regular makeover with Bobbi Brown or Space NK, I always pick up new tips / ideas and there is no cost, but I always buy at least a lipstick, mascara etc.

Karmatime · 19/09/2022 15:14

Boots No 7 Hydraluminous foundation - it’s as light as a tinted moisturiser and comes in a wide range of shades. I’ve used quite a few high end expensive ones and this is better.

Mojitomogul · 19/09/2022 15:44

Highborn does a lovely tinted moisturiser, very light, luminous coverage. Lovely ingredients too - company was created by a woman who has cancer and needed gentle ingredients. Agree with grey hair you may need a lipstick too, a natural rosy dark pink could be flattering.

Get a tester as it aged me 20 years!

Frosty1000 · 19/09/2022 16:01

Not yet 50 but feel old and invisible so I just tried no 7 bb cream and tinted moisturiser (not together 😁) and also a little dab if their skin illuminator. Get a lovely 'glow' from it so I highly recommend.

Fairyliz · 19/09/2022 16:52

I’m another one who is wondering if a decent lipstick would brighten up your complexion more?
What colour clothes suit you op?

reevonomia · 19/09/2022 16:55

In similiar position. What does BB mean in this context pls?

Runningintolife · 19/09/2022 16:56

You could take a look at Trinny London BFF rebalance with or without Miracle Blur. Its pretty light touch stuff and a little goes a long way mixed with your moisturiser. I am not sure if that's the product I have, but I had one in a white tube which was basically a moisturiser /primer (feels amazing on) and I have one now in a silver tube which I add a dot to my moisturiser and a bit of miracle blur and it works well for me. I have tried all the main tinted moisturisers and they are too heavy on me.

BryceQuinlanTheFirst · 19/09/2022 17:01

Erborian CC cream

whythou111 · 19/09/2022 17:11

@Xylkone I would probably head for Armani beauty counter, it’s pricey but in my experience everything they do works very well for light touch brightening/ smoothing of the complexion. Their foundation luminous silk is great and can give a relatively light coverage esp. when you mix with their moisturiser/tinted moisturise or hydrating primer.

Pruneaux · 19/09/2022 17:12

Another vote for Erborian cc cream here

itsnotdeep · 19/09/2022 17:14

I use Laura Mercier tinted moisturiser (the original version, not oil free) - think it's really good.

If I run out of that I like Nars.

properdoughnut · 19/09/2022 17:16

Nars moisturiser or chanel cc cream but I think the shades of that are limited.

woodhill · 19/09/2022 17:18

I'm using NO7 which seems ok

Xylkone · 20/09/2022 13:49

Thanks so much for all your responses and I'm making note of each one with a view to popping into a large department store / Boots and checking them out, although I do find the beautiful young things behind the counters don't generally 'get' what I want which isn't to turn my face a different colour and emphasize my wrinkles!

My only attempt at any type of 'tinted moisturiser ' has been Botanics radiance balm which seemed to make me look a little more put together and was easy to apply, but then noticed it was sparkly which wasn't the look I was after!

This sounds very promising - thank you.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor and Fairyliz appreciate the reminder that lipstick could be helpful. Prior to embracing the grey, I wore bright lipstick - oranges and reds - and could also pull off bright clothing. Those colours don't work for me anymore - now it seems to be greys and navys that look better with my hair colour but just add to my drab look.

Mojitomogul will seek out a natural rosy dark pink lipstick. Did actually seek advice on lipstick colours/grey hair from various make up counters a while back and was met with a blanket 'it's a matter of personal choice' which I took to mean they hadn't a clue.

Am I correct in assuming Lauren Mercier, Trinny and Erbotian are only available online? Do feel the need to see/test shades.

So glad I started this thread. Can feel a new look coming on :-)

If you can get to a Space NK they will sort you out. And they aren’t generally young things serving their either! And* *they stock Laura Mercier. I have that tinted moisturiser and it’s great - prefer it to the Chantecaille foundation I have.

GreyGreyGreyEverywhere · 20/09/2022 15:11

I'm 62 and have been grey a few years now. Agree with you that grey hair needs some colour in the face. I have the Origins factor 40 tinted moisturiser which I rave about all the time - it adapts to your skin colour and seems to really suit me (I'm a sort of pale sallow colour so would tan easily if exposed to the sun).

I also use bronzing powder, I've bought loads and find many are too mucky or too orange or too shiney. Currently using Too Faced Sun Bunny which works well for me, I just do the cheeks/forehead/jawline thing for a bit of subtle contour.

I also use lipstick more now than I used to. I got myself colour matched at a No. 7 counter, they sold me a couple of lippies in brick red shades which I never loved so didn't bother with them. Few weeks ago I spotted a L'Oréal lip crayon in a brick colour and thought I'd give it a try, it suits me very well so have been using it and it definitely "lifts" my face. I'm still not an everyday lipstick wearer though, it feels "too much" most of the time. I did get my lips tattooed last year by the person who microblades my eyebrows so they look ok on their own. (They were starting to lose colour and definition).

bert3400 · 20/09/2022 15:16

I'm 55 and love and I mean absolutely love Trinny BFF. it's a tinted lightweight moisturiser with spf30 and it adds a beautiful glow to my skin . I feel naked without it . I've tried they Rebalance but that's not suited for my skin . The Bounce moisturiser is really lush as well, expensive but you only need a little

bert3400 · 20/09/2022 15:17

Trinny had concessions in Fenwicks for a while, not sure if they are still there . I order online with the Match2match questionnaire
