Late 50s grey haired invisible woman seeks tinted moisturiser

I need some guidance, please.

Despite loving my grey hair I find myself looking dull and, quite frankly, old.

Have never bothered with foundation etc previously, but now feel I need to add something to my skin to make me look less drab; more alive. What would that be? Tinted moisturiser type potion?

It needs to be: very easy to apply; not make me look 'made-up'; not be sparkly; easy to choose the correct shade (I'm pale to medium).

I have funds if that helps.

Try the NARS one - highly recommended

AbsentinSpring · 20/09/2022 18:51

And stop referring to yourself as invisible!

Erborian CC cream

Second this, amazing stuff. First product that I have ever tried that doesn't sit in my pores and creases, even when my skin was young.

Runningintolife · 20/09/2022 19:33

Trinny is quite generous with testers of things I think

Squirrelsnut · 20/09/2022 19:38

I mix my own by adding foundation to my moisturiser.
I've used lots of tinted BB creams and the like, but they never sit right on my skin. Mixing my own has been much better.

I'm a bit younger than you but have pretty much always worn foundation due to having red skin. However often people don’t really think I wear make up (because they haven’t seen the red skin!) For years I used the Laura Mercier tinted moisturiser (not oil free as that’s aging and drying for me). I also have used Bobbi Brown which was ok. A Dior one which made me look like an orange.

I moved to a Chanel velvety one, but they changed the formula. I’ve tried the famous CC one but didn’t get on with it. Then Sali Hughes recommended the (comparatively cheap) Boots Hydraluminous Foundation- not the treatment in my case but the actual foundation, mentioned by PP above. I think I first bought it for about £7 on offer! I appreciate it’s not for everyone, as we all have completely different skin, but I haven’t used anything else since.

One thing to note is that the colour matching machine did not work for me (too pale mask like) but the shade darker is perfect. I was happy to spend ££ on my skin as the redness was such an issue - but this is pretty cheap.

I also second what people say about lipstick. My mum looks very polished, always, and puts it down to good hair and lipstick. She never goes out without it.

I really rate bobbi brown tinted moisturiser. I found some of the others very drying but this one is great and very natural looking.

You sound a similar colouring to me and I use the light shade. It's darker than it sounds.

coldfeetmama · 20/09/2022 19:43

I absolutely rate Boots No 7 intelligent foundation .. mine is the medium

Less cakey than the luminous one , that aged me too

Ask for some tester pots .. they will really help and save you wasting money on ones you don't like ! 💐

Cocolapew · 20/09/2022 19:54

I'm 53 , pale and grey haired. I use to he No7 hydra luminous one with Benefit Dandelion as blusher and swept over my face, just don't get the sparkly one.

totalnamechanger · 20/09/2022 19:56

Agree- definitely get testers. The expensive brands are usually v happy to decant some

Siezethefish · 20/09/2022 20:02

Money no object - trinny BFF destress

saving the pennies - the ordinary Serum foundation

if you aren’t sure what colour, dab an existing foundation onto the screen next to the colours.

Sooverthisnow · 20/09/2022 20:09

If you’re on a budget Aldi BB cream is good. I’m half way between light and medium so I use a blob of each.

It gets heavily slated on here however. 🤷‍♀️

Seahorsesfly · 20/09/2022 20:14

Erborian CC cream - it is so good. You can buy a small tube for £15 and the colour match guide online is good. It's like magic - cream is white and as you rub it goes face coloured! I buy online but I think Boots have wisened up to how great Korean products are and sell it now.

princessbear80 · 20/09/2022 20:22

Grey haired here too!

I love the Eborian CC red corrector. DP normally tells me my skin looks better without make up, but with this he agrees it works a treat. There’s only one or maybe two shades, it goes on white and adapts to your skin, so can’t really go wrong.

I agree with other posters about lipstick and/or blusher to liven you up too.
