Warm clothes for indoors

MoriaRoseForever · 18/09/2022 13:06

So as the temp is starting to drop, and energy prices going up, am realising need to get some indoors clothes to keep warm as want to put my heating on as little as possible !

Am looking at clothes but also bedding as well.

Don’t want to spend a fortune, so can’t afford cashmere , also don’t want to spend as much as a heating bills I, trying to save !

I am also a size 22, which does limit a little where buy things .

I have a fleecy zip up cheap large hoodie I bought last year . It was good, but not enough with no heating on.

Thanks in advance .

Uniqlo heat tech?

Uniqlo heat tech?

I didn't think their clothes went large enough, have looked before.

Will take a look. Am around 22 , although thermal can be tighter so might be ok.

Thanks.

M&S HeatGen thermal range is good and goes up to a size 22

UnconscionableSnacking · 18/09/2022 14:19

I'd suggest a really fluffy fleece dressing gown. Amazingly warm and can just go over whatever else you have. Plus they wash and dry easily and are cheap so you can have one on and one in the wash.

Ballcactus · 18/09/2022 14:20

I’ve purchased some ski thermals for me and my kids to wear under normal clothes

BruceAndNosh · 18/09/2022 14:24

You lose a lot of heat at wrists and ankles where blood vessels are close to the surface of the skin.
Socks to the knee and wrist warmers make a difference.
I also have just put on my winter base layer of long ribbed camisole top- I feel cold unless the small of my back is cosy

trimma · 18/09/2022 14:26

I love the Snag Merino TIghts. Machine wash and wear well with no holes. Easy to get on and off (I'm size 20)

Will take a look. I think layering is good. I have some old thermal vests.

Do they stay thermal ? That might be a stupid question but if washed many times does it look thermalness ?

I like think vests as a first layer and for when not too cold under something.

Thanks.

I have never skied, are they different to normal thermal ?

i prefer layers. In winter I wear thermal vest, long sleeved thermal, jumper. Massive cardigan/fleece/zip up hoody on top or if it’s really chilly I put a onesie or dressing gown on top (in the house obviously!). Warm feet makes a big difference to me so good slippers. Also making sure there are no gaps so tucking in tops and pulling up socks etc

SheWoreYellow · 18/09/2022 14:40

I find you can’t beat real wool for warmth so I have bought a few jumpers from tkmaxx.

That is interesting, any you would recommend. Thanks.

And I also like small of back to feel warm. Often that is where I will put a hot water bottle.

Are there different types of thermal? So like togs on a duvet, is there the similar for thermal?

Are oodies worth it, or their dupes ? And what do people wear on legs as they don't cover them.

Would a wrist warmer be good when working and needing to use computer rather than fingerless gloves ?

I love Heat Holders thermal socks - they do ones with grippy dots on the bottoms so I wear them all through autumn/winter as slippers over other socks for extra warmth.

Definitely layers in general. Wool jumpers and cardigans are warmer than synthetic fibres. I also love the thermals from M&S or Uniqlo.

For bedding, I love a sherpa type blanket over my duvet when it's really cold. Also having four cats who snuggle up around me helps. 😻My blanket came from Amazon.

Aixellency · 18/09/2022 14:52

Speaking of togs, a bit of an investment if you don’t yet have one, but a winter weight wool duvet will be worth every penny. Combine with brushed cotton sheets above and beneath you.

Highly recommend Primark thermal wear, and their surprisingly thick and warm joggers. Don’t know what size either these or the Uniqlo heat tech stuff go up to - but remember you can always choose from the men’s selection which will obviously go up to a larger size.

CharlotteSt · 18/09/2022 15:06

I've just bought some cashmere wrist warmers from Turtle Doves. Not cheap but they sent a free second pair.

Real wool is the key. And thin layers.

I have a pair of the Uniqlo heat tech velvet jeggings. I'm an 18 bottom and they're very snug. This is the look I wanted but because there's no room for air circulation they actually feel quite cold! M&S might be better.

Or Damart specialise in thermals.

I ordered this today. It may not be terribly warm but at the least I think it will feel comforting and can take some layers underneath. Sorry, couldn't do a link - try searching Tu lilac longline hoodie.

In terms of bedding I’ve just ordered these fleece duvet sets for everyone. Much cheaper than anywhere else. I’ve bought towels from this site as well which were acceptable.

We've all also had Wilko fleece duvet sets and bottoms sheets on for the past week and they really hold heat well. I thought they might be a bit too hot but they’re great. Looks like they’re low on some sizes online at the minute though.

Gr33ngr33ngr4ss · 18/09/2022 15:09

Asda brushed cotton fitted sheets changed our lives last winter! So much so I also got their brushed cotton duvet cover and pillow case set! Cheap as chips and never need to hair dryer the bed again!!!

LovelyChicken · 18/09/2022 15:11

If you're spending a lot of time in one position working or watching telly, a heated throw is fabulous. Bit of an outlay though, think i spent £45, but have had it for years.

Caspianberg · 18/09/2022 15:11

Long Vests - can tuck in well so lower back doesn’t get cold

thin merino buff - thin but warm around your neck indoors.

thick woolen socks. Slippers

MinervaTerrathorn · 18/09/2022 15:14

I buy merino and lambswool jumpers second hand on ebay. I can wear a men's small though which there doesn't seem to be much demand for so I've been able to get jumpers for a fiver. If it's very cold I wear a long sleeved top, jumper, then big hoodie. Wool blend socks and slipper boots.

Yes to back & neck. My whatever it turns out to be 'algia flares up in draughts.

Feet, back & neck. I can deal with hands!

Thanks, that is a good price for the bedding.
