Having my colours done

Has anyone ‘had their colours done’? Is it worth it. Which company is best. Any general info or advice would be greatly received!

Had it done on the cheap earlier in the year. Really helpful.

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 07/09/2022 17:52

Had it done by Colour Me Beautiful, I think, years ago. The swatch thing you get is useful for shopping.

comfortablyfrumpy · 07/09/2022 18:06

Yes, several years ago. Absolutely definitely worth doing.
I think mine was with House of Colour

NotMeNoNo · 07/09/2022 19:11

I think if you struggle judging what suits you or goes together or feel you need to improve your look you'd benefit. If you are a committed fashionista you might disagree or think it's all too obvious.
I'm in the first category and I think it was a good investment (I used House of Colour). In a weird way it's helpful if you aren't that interested in shopping as it saves a lot of time and helps you focus.

Makemedoit · 07/09/2022 21:01

@OnceAgainWithFeeling Who did you use?

I had it done years ago and found it a waste of time and money.

thirstyformore · 07/09/2022 21:03

I had mine done a few years ago. Online, as part of a "style analysis". I found it really helpful

declutteringmymind · 07/09/2022 21:06

I've kind of figured it myself as I've never got around to finding somewhere near me but yes it's really useful. I've learnt that the colours I like don't suit me, and others are an absolute no no next to my face. I've made friends with mustard yellow and salmon pink.

I'm far more confident in the colours that I buy but it's really frustrating when there's something you fall in love with, or you get given uniform in a colour that isn't flattering.

You can learn alot by observing others with same colouring as yourself in real life and on social media.

CambsAlways · 07/09/2022 21:08

I had mine done years ago by colour me beautiful I think it was called the colours they chose I felt didn’t suit me at all, not just me thinking that way, friends also said the same ,so a waste of money we thought

magaluf1999 · 07/09/2022 21:17

Style me happy does colour and shape and its great for ongoing support

I had mine done by Colour Me Beautiful eons ago and found it really useful. It confirmed some things I already knew and also I then understood why I never felt comfortable with cream against my skin as it just drains my face and creates lots of shadows.

I found it quite powerful to see how different colours reflected the light on my face. Some were absolute howlers, accentuating shadows, lines etc.

There’s a stylist on Instagram called Anita Feron-Clark. She covers this kind of thing and I find her feed really helpful.

SomethingFast · 07/09/2022 21:23

I had it done twice, the first one was not good, and wasn’t accurate. The second was great (I did the style session at the same time) and has helped so much with shopping and putting a wardrobe together. That was House of Colour, the stylist is brilliant - they cover certain areas and I travelled based on her reputation - and I’ve kept in touch for help with specific outfits.

SomethingFast · 07/09/2022 21:26

Also I’ve done a shopping trip with her, that was a real eye-opener as she got me to try things I’d never have considered, and it was a real confidence boost

newtb · 07/09/2022 21:34

Had mine done years ago by CMB, also thé style and make up. They've changed over the years and I'm fading from autumn to winter.

sueelleker · 07/09/2022 21:41

I read the Colour Me Beautiful book years ago, and found it very enlightening. I had actually been wearing most of my colours that suited me, but discovered why silver jewellery didn't suit me (Autumn)

Bouledeneige · 07/09/2022 22:01

I watched sone videos of people having it done and f so isn't agree with their conclusions. I've always kind of wondered why people do do it. I worked out a long time ago what colours look terrible on my - like yellows and red and that blue, green, purple and white look good on me.

rookiemere · 07/09/2022 22:05

If you go to www.kettlewellcolours.co.uk/ there are some quizzes that may help you out. Then perhaps buy a few items in the season you think you might be and see if they suit you.

MattDillonsEyebrows · 07/09/2022 22:12

I had it done by House of Colour about 7 years ago and it was the best £100 I have ever spent. It made things so much easier.
From what I understand the big difference between HOC and CMB is that HOC do group classes whereas CMB do individual.
in my class, I was with another young woman I didn't know but we had a really interesting time and I found it much easier to spot the differences in the colours on her than it was on me so for that reason I'd recommend HOC.
I wouldn't recommend doing it yourself as again, I struggle to see the difference on me and I have known women who confidently tell me they're 'a winter because they have brown eyes and brown hair' but having a bit of knowledge from the class, I can see that the colours they wear from the winter pallete do not lift them at all.

LadyPoison · 07/09/2022 22:14

I was "done" by Colour Me Beautiful many years ago and found it really useful.

I'm a very warm autumn. Most of the cooler colours I was avoiding anyway instinctively.

comfortablyfrumpy · 07/09/2022 22:43

I did HOC but done individually (didn't know they did groups) .
I really hate clothes shopping, so it has saved me so much time as I can quickly spot what's likely to work for me , and which are my best picks.

FlorencePennnywell · 07/09/2022 22:52

I've always noticed that the consultants are all dressed head to toe in the most garish colours half the time. With lots of OTT accessories and make up. That's what puts me off

TheOGCCL · 07/09/2022 23:54

There can be a disconnect between wearing your ‘colours’ and looking fashionable.

For example as an Autumn I’m probably best off looking at somewhere like Joe Browns but not keen on the styles really (and current fashion is minimalist, white, black, grey, beige). It’s that look that the pp points out, kind of like Victoria Wood and Julie Walters doing a daytime TV skit. Jaunty.

I had my colours done fifteen years ago and I do buy into it but I think some people benefit more than others. If you are pale and easily washed out, you’ll get more out of it than if you have darker skin, in my opinion. I think done right it can make you look fresher and younger, and most people don’t look great in black as they age so if it gets people away from that, great.

Kettlewell have a Facebook group where devoted customers show of their outfits and many of them do look pretty stylish.

I actually think the style day HOC do is probably more useful in preventing bad clothing purchases.

Valkirie · 08/09/2022 06:21

OP, if you say where in the country you are based then people may be able to recommend specific consultants close to you

sorrynotathome · 08/09/2022 06:24

You might do better to get a copy of What You Wear Can Change Your Life by Trinny & Susannah. Goes way beyond colour and certainly changed my whole approach to clothes.
