Washing my face in the toothpaste sink ☹️

We’re getting a new bathroom put in and I desperately wanted ‘Jack and Jill’ sinks but they didn’t fit.

I would love to get into an evening routine of using lovely facial cleansing products but how does it work if you’ve only got one sink?

This thread is pure gold! 😆😆😆

I can't get the image of the partner in the loin cloth holding the bowl of water out of my head 😂.
No idea what your partner looks like OP but I'm imagining a kind of Harry Styles/ George Clooney hybrid.

ToGanymedeAndTitan · 07/09/2022 02:13

Um.,.. it's gone 2 in the morning, I'm a daft arse who should be in bed so have only read the first comment 😁
WTF's a Jack and Jill sink?!
People have a sink to clean their teeth and a separate one to wash their face?!
You just do it all in the same sink here heaven forbid lol

I’m really struggling to understand why you have globs of spat-out toothpaste all over your sink? Just rinse the sink down after you use it or aim your spit down the plug hole. I honestly have never seen a toothpaste covered sink - so baffled!
Secondly, what skin care regime are you following? Are you filling up the sink with hot water to open your pores or something like that? Because otherwise your skin shouldn’t come into contact with the sink?

Are you asking how a sink works?

This thread needs a nomination for Classics @mumsnet

Oh, you lot 😁

The thing is that I’m actually being deadly serious!

Are there genuinely people out there who clean their bathroom sinks daily? Really?!

Do you have a mental health problem?

Bumblegreen · 07/09/2022 03:14

someone asked how you get poo particles in the toothbrush?

When you flush with the toilet seat up, all the poo and wee gets vapourised as far as 6 feet and stick on the bathroom surfaces and your fluffy white towels for several hours.

Speedweed · 07/09/2022 03:15

Do you have a bidet? Could you perhaps use that instead if the sink has toothpaste in it?

RefuseTheLies · 07/09/2022 03:17

This kid didn’t get the memo - he’s sitting in the sink whilst brushing his teeth.

I’m genuinely confused @Magnus18 . Are you saying that either,

  1. in your household, people just leave dried-up toothpaste in the sink every day? Because that’s the weird part, and of course it’s a bit gross. There should be no signs of toothpaste in the sink once you’re done using it. Rinsing the sink is PART of brushing your teeth. Otherwise, everyone who uses the sink to do things like wash their hands and wash their face, exactly like you’re talking about, would be staring at someone else’s leftover manky toothpaste bits. I mean, everyone I know starts teaching their 2 year old not to leave toothpaste in the sink as part of toothbrushing. So no adult should be doing it. Which makes me extremely confused to what you’re on about. Or are you saying:
  2. You just have an issue even knowing the sink was used for toothbrushing and you now want to use it for your face. You must know, if so, that’s very, very uncommon and a bit strange. I don’t want to say anything unkind, in case it’s 2.

I looked at that Instagram link you shared of beautiful sinks and you must have noticed: most of them were the only sink in the room, which means they must all be used for toothbrushing and face washing every day, yet no mangy toothpaste marks. So a more beautiful sink will not solve your problem is it’s 1 or 2, will it? Even if it was a beautiful second sink, people might wash their teeth in it?

TheTeenageYears · 07/09/2022 04:11

Everyone rinses the sink after brushing teeth so there's no evidence of spitting out toothpaste. No need to properly clean a sink daily if everyone leaves the sink how they found it. I don't run a bowl of water for my evening skincare routine. I use a cream cleanser directly on my face and run a clean wash cloth under the tap and squeeze out to remove it. Washcloth gets put over top of shower screen overnight to dry and then put in the laundry basket.

Bumblegreen · 07/09/2022 05:02

Just get a plastic bowl and put water in it.

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 07/09/2022 05:40

Yayayaya20 · 06/09/2022 22:42

I genuinely don’t understand the issue here. Am I doing my face wrong? Why would you need two sinks?

I think it must be based on the 'two bucket car cleaning method' 🤔

'The basics of the two bucket method is one bucket with your shampoo wash solution, and one bucket with plain water for rinsing your wash mitt. Work on the vehicle from top to bottom, working in small sections, rinsing the wash mitt in your rinse bucket out before reloading with shampoo solution from the wash bucket.

But… toothpaste spit…. 🤢

Does your sink have a tap and water supply? If so turn on said tap and watch the water magically rinse the toothpaste away.

Leafy3 · 07/09/2022 05:46

People on this thread clearly don't understand sterility 😆

I feel your pain. I have to wash our sink for each use. ( also permanently cleaning toilets )
When it’s particularly sparkling, then husband shaves, and he never manages to clean a sink. A Jack and Jill sink would be lovely ( his and hers)

He once complained about the tiles in our shower, so I asked him, how many times: did he think he’d cleaned them, in the last 15 years …..never

backwhiteandredallover · 07/09/2022 06:04

I'm thinking an antique jug and basin is what you need.

So maybe you could keep it on your dressing table and fill when needed.

Don't forget to pour the used water out of the window onto passing peasants.

Mummyoflittledragon · 07/09/2022 06:20

Ok I’m going to take this seriously as I get where you’re coming from…. We fitted a lot more in the bathroom simply by moving the door as our bathroom is wider.
rather than long. Eastbrook do a 1000 wide double vanity with storage. You can get double white floating sinks a little narrower. Basic white. But practical and if these fit, you could put the colour into your tiles.

isthismylifenow · 07/09/2022 06:25

I have the answer....

Wash your face first, then brush your teeth. Problem solved.

Mummyoflittledragon · 07/09/2022 06:29

Op doesn’t want to clean the sink daily. I think it’s also in relation to her dh and family if there is anyone else living there.

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 07/09/2022 06:31

I'm wondering if you are using your sink incorrectly.
Are you using it rather like an artist's pallet?
That is, squeezing toothpaste into the sink and then dipping your toothbrush into the paste?
This may be where you are going wrong.

Leafy3 · 07/09/2022 06:38

@ToGanymedeAndTitan they're his and hers sinks

Garman · 07/09/2022 07:11

I have a nightly skincare regime and at no point do I need a sink full of water (my sink is clean anyway though, do people not wipe toothpaste spit away with water etc when it's fresh?). I use a warm wet flannel glove thing, then use cleanser, then wipe if off with the flannel, so I just put the flannel under the tap for a second each time.
