Cost of living - Cutting back on hair/beauty

I'm considering cutting back on my 8 weekly hair cut and colour and trying to stretch it out a bit ( or a big bit ,yikes). Beauty treatments might need to go all together :( Is anyone else stripping back on these things too with the current shambles? I am useless at doing things myself ie nails etc... so I don't think that's an option sadly :(

Dogs are far better for your self worth than cats are.

You prefer a slave to being one? 😂

Well thanks to this thread I googled the local beauty college. The prices are amazing! I have straight hair and have been begrudging paying so much to get it trimmed - the cut literally takes 10 mins. The beauty college is £10! They also do an all inclusive annual pass for £150 a year 😮

The only beauty treatment I have is highlights 8-9 weekly & a trim 12 weekly... I'm rubbish at home hair colour and have some frizzy white hair so my hairdresser is essential to me... especially as I'm single and want to attract a (maybe younger) boyfriend...

I don't need to buy any new winter clothes though so that's one saving!

YES I’m thinking about buying a hot waxing set and teaching my husband to wax my armpits.
i wax rather than shave them because of sensitive skin. Want to cut down on the 15 quid every two weeks.
is this going too far…?
will the relationship survive …?
joking but also not

You are brave. I did a NVQ 2 beauty therapy course for fun and hated doing arms. I much preferred sugaring to waxing the underarm area and that might be an option to preserve your marriage!

No, but I only get my hair and nails done. Hair probably twice a year…
I don’t get Botox or anything (probably need it 😆)

No more salon colouring for me.

I only organic herbal colour anyway as the other type irritates my scalp. The last time I had my colour done at the hairdresser it looked washed out after a couple of weeks. I bought the colour myself today and I like it more than what the hairdresser did so I see no reason to go back.

I already do my nails.

The only thing I am happy to pay for is a decent haircut.

Embrace the grey !!!🤭

Just a thought most beauty professionals are women. Many single mums. I am in the beauty industry but I try to support small local salons. Colleges are great but the service needs to be checked so will take longer. You certainly will never go out looking a fright!
Lots of good products at Aldi and Boots £9.99 face glow creme is based on a famous Japanese one at £95.

I'm absolutely not going to cut back on hair cuts, but I don't know what to do about the high & low lights I usually have every 12 weeks or so. I might look into the local college salon, if there is one, and see what they offer.

I prefer silicone free shampoos and am using a Redken one just now, but I found a Herbal Essences one that's silicone free and considerably cheaper so I'll give that a try. I only wash and style my hair twice a week so, again, the products I already have will last me ages.

I usually have a monthly pedicure, but £30 a time is silly when I can do it at home, with the help of my husband. I also have the stuff I need to tint my own brows & lashes so I won't have that done in a salon any more.

The makeup I have will last me for ages and, when something runs out, I'll look on Amazon to see if I can save on it.

I really need to remember I have tonnes of stuff and don't need to buy any more. And resolve to stick to it!

Got quoted £200 today by a local suburban salon, nowhere special, for an under dye ( ie top hair one colour and underlayer another).

Fuck that, I'll have to stay one colour
Salon wanted £70 just to strip out the old colour then £100 for the 2 colours and cut on top

Think they realised they'd over priced themselves when I said I'd think about it and walked out.
