Been in a fashion desert for years-please help me style these for a/w!

As I said I’ve been in a style/fashion desert for years due to having been morbidly overweight, I was size 28/30;this time last year.

Now I’m not 🎉, I’m a size 16 but I need to start my wardrobe from scratch again in. I’ve been wearing these jeans
www.marksandspencer.com/MSFindItemsByKeyword?searchTerm=harper%20 jeans over the summer and they’ve been great with trainers/sandals/Birkenstock type sandals.

Would they still be wearable with boots? If so what kind would you suggest? (I need wide fit for the foot part now, although not the calves, so this might limit things a bit. I’m 5’7” if that makes a difference!

Nice choices @JudgeRindersMinder I've not had M&S boots for a good few years, but dd swears by them.

JudgeRindersMinder · 30/08/2022 18:09

@RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie thank you. I know I’m playing very safe with what I’m going for but I literally need to start again from the feet up…again not a complaint 😂

What else are you thinking of getting?

I need to get a jacket fairly imminently-the only top layer I have just now is a hoodie!
I need a couple of casual tops, maybe a couple of dresses, a couple of jumpers and cardigans.

As I’ve been losing the weight I’ve kept myself going with buying then selling on Vinted, but I’ve played it safe!

I don’t really know what my personal style is, as for about 25+ years it’s been just buying the best of a bad lot, but when I was younger I tended to go more classic style than high end fashion if that makes sense ?

Fly London wedge style

Been in a fashion desert for years-please help me style these for a/w!
Tanaqui · 30/08/2022 18:29

Fly wedges are super comfy, but not right with those jeans I think. If you like the cigarette shaped jeans, maybe look at cigarette trousers too, perhaps with a brogue type shoe?

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 30/08/2022 18:54

How exciting to be able to start building it up again.

What kind of jacket /dress do you fancy?

I’ve just had to buy new trousers for work and funnily enough that’s exactly what I’ve gone for! I have loafers that still fit so that’s kind of the same feel as brogues….

@RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie Dresses I’ve no idea! Something casual-ish just for everyday wear.
Again I’ve no idea what I’d wear them with, I’ve avoided tights for all the years I’ve been so overweight, but I’d probably be open to them now- so would opaque be best with a midi kind of a length and flat boots?

Jacket wise it’ll just be something practical, most likely a navy puffa-just for wearing with jeans.
I have access to a couple of really cosy full length ones if I need one.

Im trying to avoid leggings if I can, I just associate them with my fat years! Maybe I’ll change my mind in time, but for now I’m enjoying them not being my only option!

Thank you all for your input so far, this is really helpful💐

It depends on the dress re opaques and boots. Sometimes it works, sometimes it can look a bit Nanny Ogg imo. I sometimes wear fishnets instead, with a midi dress, as they don't look so heavy and witchy imo.

I still like opaques with shorter dresses, although these days tend to go for 60 d or under, rather than the really thick ones.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 31/08/2022 10:02

Agree with @Tanaqui - don't think those Fly wedges would look good with those jeans. I think they'd need a slim fire or bootcut, although must admit I'm not a fan of wedge boots generally.

JudgeRindersMinder · 31/08/2022 15:10

@RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie tha is for this, I hear what you’re saying about opaques-this is the kind of advice I need!

Just noticed 'slim fire' in my previous. I meant slim flare!

JudgeRindersMinder · 31/08/2022 18:14

@RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie knew what you meant! Unfortunately I can’t do wedges or any kind of heel due to seriously dodgy ankles 🙄

I have no style advice but would love to know how you lost the weight...

RelentlessForwardProgress · 12/09/2022 18:55

Congratulations on the weight loss, @JudgeRindersMinder

I have wide feet too.

In my experience JD Williams do the best range of boots, as they do different widths in the feet and calves eg you can have wide foot/slim calf option rather than just wide or slim all over. The size guide is here if it helps.

JudgeRindersMinder · 12/09/2022 22:17

@RelentlessForwardProgress tha is for that suggestion, I always forget about the, so I’ll have a look

@starryeyed19 I had a gastric sleeve done last November. Drastic, and not for everyone, but it was right for me

I have the Harper jeans and in colder weather wear them with converse high tops (I have the ones with the flatform sole) or the long chunky chelsea boots like in the picture (these are Levi's but I wear my Harpers with the same boots)

Been in a fashion desert for years-please help me style these for a/w!
JudgeRindersMinder · 13/09/2022 18:03

@EllaPaella thats such a good look! Thanks for the idea (I’ll be such a copycat 😂)
