Been in a fashion desert for years-please help me style these for a/w!

As I said I’ve been in a style/fashion desert for years due to having been morbidly overweight, I was size 28/30;this time last year.

Now I’m not 🎉, I’m a size 16 but I need to start my wardrobe from scratch again in. I’ve been wearing these jeans
www.marksandspencer.com/MSFindItemsByKeyword?searchTerm=harper%20 jeans over the summer and they’ve been great with trainers/sandals/Birkenstock type sandals.

Would they still be wearable with boots? If so what kind would you suggest? (I need wide fit for the foot part now, although not the calves, so this might limit things a bit. I’m 5’7” if that makes a difference!

Oh I love these jeans! I'm planning to wear them with trainers in autumn, might move to ankle boots in winter. I'll have to have a try on to check proportions, they're 7/8 length on me.

They’re the same length on me too…with trainers, would you wear trainer liner socks and keep them invisible? I just don’t have a clue , but I do seriously feel the cold since I lost my padding😂

Well done on the weight loss! Those jeans are fab. I think you could either wear trainer socks or patterned/sparkly socks if that’s your thing? With ankle boots I think you’d be better off with black socks underneath

travailtotravel · 29/08/2022 20:30

Similar weight loss here and OMG the Harpers are amaze. I am wearing them with trainers and Chelsea boots. I've got some knitwear for smarter and sweaters for normal wear. Their jeggings are good if you want to wear with long boots or walking boots etc. Bloody well done you,it's amaze isn't it.

PeloAddict · 29/08/2022 20:45

I also have them and am the same size! I wear them with trainers hut haven't tried with boots yet - only as they're a teeny bit short on me (5ft 10 and I got the long)
I just wear trainer socks with them

JudgeRindersMinder · 29/08/2022 21:05

@travailtotravel congratulations!! It’s absolutely brilliant isn’t it!!
Clothes shopping’s a bit daunting though <—absolutely NOT a complaint though!

@JudgeRindersMinder - yes, no show socks..

HappyRhino · 29/08/2022 22:30

Well done on the weight loss OP.

I would recommend chunky high leg Chelsea boots for winter with those jeans. They are everywhere at the moment. I had some last year for £15 from Primark. I’ve seen them in black, khaki, cream. Whichever colour you’d prefer.

Something like these

JudgeRindersMinder · 29/08/2022 22:47

@HappyRhino thank you-I thought that kind of style would be good, but I just don’t trust my judgement yet!

It’s hard when you’re dressing for a different body, isn’t it? I lost 6 stone last year so had a complete wardrobe revamp. I would never have worn jeans and those kinds of boots when I was bigger, but loved the look last winter.

JudgeRindersMinder · 29/08/2022 23:28

@HappyRhino it certainly is! Congratulations and well done on your weight loss too!
Ive been very overweight for 25+ years so I’m in my early 50s now and have no idea how I “should” be dressing. The last time I had a lot of choice about clothes was in the late 80s/early 90s and so much has passed me by. I don’t want to be mutton dressed as lamb, but also know that there are almost no rules!

Oh, for the love of everything sane.

M&S have separate, individual, lockable cubicles. Nobody is going to see anything of man or woman, unless said man or woman is parading half naked in the entrance.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 30/08/2022 00:25

These are my favourite boots for wearing with rolled up jeans. Comfortable from day one. But yes, a chunky Chelsea boots would be good. Or any kind of DM, if you can face the breaking in (I can't, anymore!).

HaveringWavering · 30/08/2022 00:26

Well done on the weight loss OP.

No style advice here but was just intrigued that M&S call these "cigarette jeans". I have heard of cigarette pants before but I'd have thought a company like M&S would avoid a word associated with smoking.

Iadorerain · 30/08/2022 13:58

Not sure why I got deleted for saying that M and S welcome trans women into the women’s changing rooms.

lindyloo57 · 30/08/2022 14:27

I tried the harper jeans, but for me the crotch came low but like the model n0 three in the link, I think it's because I'm petite and short in the rise.

JudgeRindersMinder · 30/08/2022 15:09

@RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie I’ve just ordered some chunky Chelsea boots and some lace up ankle boost to try….my days of breaking shoes in are well in the rear view mirror!

Because:
a) that's perfectly legal and inclusive
b) this is a thread about fashion, not about pushing an agenda that is mired in ignorance and fear imo

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 30/08/2022 16:16

@JudgeRindersMinder Lovely! Which ones did you go for?

I have the Harper jeans. I wear them with chunky boots, DM's and high tops in winter.

Tehse are the boots I’ve bought (there’s 15% off which is a bonus!) I thought the lacing ones would be good with dresses too

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 30/08/2022 17:46

@Iadorerain What the hell is that supposed to mean? I've been posting on S&B for years, and if you're assuming I'm trans, then you are wrong. Please can we just talk about boots?
