Are you well turned out everyday ?

I'm most def not and need to change it.
I WFH and don't even bother showering most mornings (but bath every eve). Most weekends I'm running around town doing errands or just at home sorting things etc. No make up, hair scraped back & not even brushed, shitty old clothes on and flip flops.
I have 2 bras - 1 black 1 white. My knickers are all the same type and colour (black) and shoved in a tangled heap in a drawer.
I only do nails if I'm going out out. I love gels but can't afford them all the time. I have lots of nice polishes/perfume/jewellery I hardly wear as always save for best, but best never happens.
I need to take more pride in how I look/ how I'm turned out. I want to be someone who has loads of outfits & accessories and who others look at and think "wow, she had some lovely clothes and is always well presented". Trouble is, does being "well presented" mean a hell of a lot of effort to do/maintain?

Hell, no. Joggers, jeans, T shirts, slippers. I'm comfortable and happy 😊

limitededitionbarbie · 27/08/2022 21:04

Just get smarter loungewear and maybe put a basic make up on if you want to.

I'm the same as you most days unless I have to go into the office. I schedule my hair washing around this. Not that I don't wash it I do! But I only blow dry if I'm meeting customers or going into actual work.

Other than that I sit in shorts and t shirts. I'm happy. I feel relaxed. Life is too short to waste on what other people think I should look like.

coodawoodashooda · 27/08/2022 21:04

Haven't been for years.

Purplehonesty2 · 27/08/2022 21:07

I usually do concealer, blush and eye brows every day. So that makes me look fairly fresh

Hair washed every second day and I put it up in between. Usually a high bun or pony, but a nice one!

I wear black jeans to work with a blouse or top, a long skirt and top or a dress.

When I am not at work I wear jeans, boots/wellies and a joules polo top most of the time as I'm farming! I like to like nice though so I have Barbour jacket, dubarry boots, joules gilet etc.

I don't own trackies and if I'm wearing gym leggings it's to go to the gym or for a run.

The only exception is during lambing when I am sleep deprived, muddy mess covered in milk stains and wearing waterproofs with holes in!!

ImBoilingJackie · 27/08/2022 21:17

I've been cooking today. Wore old shorts and a t-shirt which I managed to splatter with cake mixture. Haven't brushed my hair.
Then again, I'm not going anywhere or seeing anyone so it doesn't matter.

When it started to cool down, I changed into my pj's and am now sitting with a cardi over them.

Monty27 · 27/08/2022 21:29

I was dressed in scruffy clothes all through lockdown. After that I found it a pain to get dressed properly. I've been living in scruffy shorts and vest tops all summer. This meant I wouldn't leave the house.
I felt the need to raise the standard and I'm binning things I wouldn't even wear to the shop. 8 sacks of clothing have been donated to charity 😮
I'm now dressing better and using stuff that I really like but keep for best.
i try to have clean hair always.

Lndnmummy · 27/08/2022 21:33

I do my hair, eyebrows and nails regularly and look after my skin so day to day its not much effort. Tinted moisturiser, light bronzer and a tinted lipbalm. I stick it on as i wait for the kettle to boil. I wear dresses alot. Its like cheating. It looks like you have made a huge effort but its just one item of clothing. I struggle hugely with my confidence at the moment as I have put on alot of weight, but I feel much better for feeling groomed every day.

Squirrelsnut · 27/08/2022 21:39

I find having neat, defined brows and tinted eyelashes makes a huge difference to my face - I basically look made-up when I'm not. So I don't mind 30 minutes every 5 weeks tinting, and I pluck a few straggly eyebrows several times a week. Bit of tinted lip balm and done.
Like pp, I wear lots of dresses. Simple and looks relatively put together.

XingMing · 27/08/2022 21:41

I love clothes. So I wear what makes me happy, feels comfortable for my day's activities, and don't give a TOSS what anyone else thinks. I mainly wear naice jeans, with a henley shape T shirt and a jersey if it's cool. plus quite racy trainers in loud colours. I have trainers in most colours. Because they are always good for walking the dog and doing shopping and chores.

Gonewiththewindbeforelong · 27/08/2022 21:41

Used to be everyday when in the office, pre covid. I had a gel nail machine at home and always had them on, loved them! Always clean hair, straightened, dull face of make up, dress, heels.

Since March 2020… I shower daily, scrape hair back, still do my face routine as in vitamin C in the morning, A at night and Gua Sha, moisturise and retinol etc.. but that’s it. Bare nails, moisturise and perfume, but I don’t go to the effort I did before and tbh it’s quite liberating!

I feel for the first time in my life comfortable in my own skin which fortunately is good now after being plagued with teenage acne for a long time. The pandemic has actually taught me to be comfortable in my own skin, whereas before I was nowhere without my ‘full face’ on. I still love wearing make up when I go someone ‘special’ as it were, but I can now leave the house without a second thought in just my skin.. and feel comfortable!

Purpleavocado · 27/08/2022 21:46

Yes, I always make a bit of an effort unless I'm ill. It makes me feel better.

Foxglovers · 27/08/2022 21:48

I always think if you wear nice clothes then the rest doesn’t matter as much? Think No make up Kate moss. Just washed hair and nice clothes (granted she is beautiful) but I always think it’s the clothes that make the biggest difference to how I feel. So even if the hair and make isn’t happening (99% of the time) I think I still look ok as clothes and jewellery are nice?

XingMing · 27/08/2022 21:50

I am always "well turned out", even walking the dog. FFS, I buy my clothes with that in mind. I may be buying waterproof outerwear, but it will have been very carefully chosen.

Lollypop701 · 27/08/2022 21:57

Been in pjs all day and quite happy… look like a bag of spanners 😂can look good when I can be arsed. Do not care!

elizabethdraper · 27/08/2022 22:14

I just wear tunic/swing dresses in the winter with leggings and knee boots
In the summer with fittflops/doc saddles

Pretty much feels like wearing pj's

When I was working in the office, I wore mantra Ray dresses and leggings. All my work clothes were navy and grey

Now wfh, my husband regularly calls me a bag of skittles 😂

I have discovered headscarves, turbans, thick headbands. Hair in high bun, funky headscarf, looks like I made an effort

Always get comments on hair

I have recently started getting my nails done every 4 weeks

As soon as a piece of clothing gets holes, looks shabby, it is replaced

I don't buy fast fashion and wear clothes basically to death

MrsLeBouef · 27/08/2022 22:14

@Thefroglover I would say a bit of organisation might put you in a better frame of mind. Organise that knicker drawer for a start and perhaps buy another neutral coloured bra. Have a good look at your wardrobe and if there is stuff you don't wear get rid of it. Treat yourself to a spa evening at home once a week - a hair mask on, a face mask on, check your eyebrows, do a body scrub and finish off with a bit of body lotion. You don't need to have LOADS of outfits but you do need to have some good basic pieces which you can swap around. Hang your clothes in order in your wardrobe - short sleeve things together etc. Do you have a face routine? I never leave the house without mascara at least. I'm often told I look glamorous ( odd word yes I know ) but I think that is just because I wear mostly neutral clothes and always do my hair properly as well as some make up. I do this for myself not anyone else. I was brought up by my Mother to have be clean and tidy.

SizzlerFizzler · 27/08/2022 22:16

Yes. I'm quite vain.

Or a fan of self-care if that makes it sound better.

EllieRosesMammy · 27/08/2022 22:23

Haha absolutely not. I have 2 daughters (aged 4 and 11 months), I'm 5 months pregnant with our daughter number 3, and I work as a chef (no chefs bother wearing makeup/doing our hair as we sweat it off). I can't remember the last time I even wore makeup or my hair down, luckily my fiance couldnt give a fuck (he's a chef too) 😁

TabithaTittlemouse · 27/08/2022 22:24

As seen on this thread, everyone has a different idea of what well presented looks like to them.

I take care of myself because it makes me feel good.

Having lots of outfits and accessories doesn’t make you well presented. You could have a million outfits and still not be happy with how you look.

whiteonesugar · 27/08/2022 22:34

I like to be, I have off days but if I look half decent then I feel like I’ve got my shit together even if I don’t haha

And by half decent I mean hair looking ok whether it’s styled, tied back, slick bun whatever, nails done and minimal make up (bronzer, blusher and mascara) - I don’t spend ages getting ready I don’t have time!

Coffeepot72 · 28/08/2022 06:35

*I'm so hard on myself and generally always look really well turned out. Amongst my friendship group I have a reputation for leaving festivals, days out walking etc looking exactly as I did when I arrived!

I'm not overly done but my hair is clean and styled everyday, nails always done and I always plan my outfit the night before so my morning routine is pretty easy.
I always wear make up, even if I'm not leaving the house 😬

I do wish I could allow myself an 'off day' but it's just not in my nature!*

@crosbystillsandmash i could have written this post! I too would love an off-day but when your usual style is ‘I made an effort’ you look a million times worse when you don’t bother!

Stayingstrongish · 28/08/2022 07:36

I have two young kids but manage to throw some make up on in about five mins. In the summer I look better as I wear dresses or skirts with a plain top. In the winter I make more of an effort with my coats, as that is the part most people see.

I don’t get anything professionally done - no nails, no tinting, haircut only once to twice a year. But I do make an effort with clothes and quirky (cheap!) jewellery.

LuciferRising · 28/08/2022 08:50

I don't like the well presented look as much as the outsidey/sports look.

I always shower etc a but don't wear makeup. Hair back in a ponytail, none fancy clothes but ironed. I think I look fine, just not 'turned out'.

Wax my monobrow when needs doing. Hair dyed every 8 weeks. Have silver huggie earrings I never take out. Sterling silver watch and my rings I slip on every day.

Have bought some thermal hiking trousers from acai for wearing WFH this winter.

None leather recycled plastic cross body bag that I like.

dudsville · 28/08/2022 08:54

I agree with some of the pp that one change could be easier to reach - go through your wardrobe and ditch everything that you feel makes you look scruffy. Pre pandemic i did not have many nice things to wear about the house but i started wearing my "out" clothes "in" and it really has boosted my sense of myself.

YesitsBess · 28/08/2022 10:36

Thanks to this thread I put some make up on today for a family BBQ, and a nice necklace I got for one English pound from the charity shop, AND I used my lovely Clarins body moisturiser that I save for ‘best’ and never use!

I’m going to be late the the BBQ but baby steps!
