An idiot-proof gradual tanner that goes quite dark eventually?

I am pale-to-medium toned but I do tan in the end - apart from my legs, which usually remain a delicate pale blue.

This year I've managed to get a tiny bit of colour on them, and my thread veins and weird bruises and manky mozzy bites etc (in my 50s) look SO much better.

I know leg makeup works to cover this stuff up but it feels, I dunno, a bit mucky Grin to have foundation on my legs. I've done a couple of gradual tanners before but they came out a bit wishy-washy - pale gold rather than actually tanned.

Does anyone know of one which is very easy to use (preferably not too long to sink in as I'll be doing it before bed) and ends up being a nice healthy brown colour?

Thanks in advance if you can help!

Palmers!

Put moisturiser on allows ankles and knees, use St moritz applied with a mitt. Do it Before bed and shower in the morning with no streaks and a golden glow! Fail proof!

Bondi sands with a mitt. Wash off after 6/8 hours. Once a week.

Oh bollocks I can see my OP wasn't clear sorry - looking for a daily gradual tan that goes dark with enough applications.

My experience with fake or grandmas tans (as opposed to make up) is that if you don’t naturally tan on certain parts of your body, you won’t with a fake or gradual tan either.

My shins just don’t tan. And they don’t respond d to any gradual tans either, regardless of whether I exfoliate, moisturise, prep in any way. I’ve tried everything.

Ive accepted it and now just use a wash off one.

WellTidy · 17/08/2022 12:36

Grandmas = gradual!!!!

Whitesapphire · 17/08/2022 12:37

The Nivea firming one with gradual tan in it is really good

Il Makiage - foam applied with a mitt. It’s lightly coloured so you can see you’ve applied it evenly, doesn’t whiff too horribly and has a nice natural colour. I’ve tried so so many over the years and this is by far the best I’ve ever used.

Gradual tans won't cut the mustard if you want a dark tan. They just won't.

Bite the bullet and use Bondi Sands mousse a couple of times a week applied with a mitt and go easy on knees and elbows. It's the most realistic tan I've found for Caucasian skin because it has a certain amount of believable grey built in so you're not orange.

Tan had never taken on my shins UNTIL I read a hack whereby you rub the cut side of a lemon on your legs (or just lemon juice) before applying the tan. It works! Something to do with the chemical in the lemon and the tan.

NoToLandfill · 18/08/2022 04:11

HeShi gradual tan will get you the results you want. It is designed by pale northern Irish people! The tan lotion is excellent too.

Another regular tanner that gives you those results is st Moritz foam. Amazing stuff. Doesn't stink, guide colour and you can get each leg even. I do 4 squirts per leg. Got to move fast, and it does spread over easier with a tiny bit of moisturizer on the knees feet and then all over.

Need to try this as the only thing to make my shins look tanned was a spray tan. Gradual tan just turns them yellow.

I just get a natural looking spray tan every couple of weeks while my legs are out. I want to wear skirts and shorts without blinding oncoming traffic with my ghostly legs. I wear sunblock on top. They look great and I don't sunbath otherwise so protect my skin.

The Garnier summer body gradual tan in dark, comes out lovely and dark if you keep applying every day. Not Towie colour but decent for a pale person!

Dove, the medium to dark one.

WinterDeWinter · 18/08/2022 17:21

Oh do you remember which one @KangarooKenny - dermaspa or summer glow?

QueenImprov · 18/08/2022 20:17

Agree with medium to dark Dove one, it goes a lovely natural but quite dark tan and doesn't come off patchy. Also cheap.

WinterDeWinter · 18/08/2022 20:23

@QueenImprov there are two Dove ones Grin which one do you use?

Tallulasdancingshoes · 18/08/2022 21:44

I also like the Dove one. Use the medium to dark.

IceFemonLanta · 18/08/2022 21:46

Palmers, it's brilliant

Immeltinnnnngggg · 18/08/2022 21:52

I have been using St Moritz spray tanner.

It's amazing. Spray and then rub in with a mitt. Leave overnight and then wash off the excess.

ChobKnees · 18/08/2022 21:53

Dove Dermaspa summer revived. They do two colours light to medium and medium to dark.

The best one I've ever used.

LaMarschallin · 18/08/2022 21:53

I've tried Dove and Garnier and they've both ended up really patchy. Definitely the gradual body lotion ones, not fake tan.
I try to rub them in well all over my legs but they remain very streaky.
I bought the Nivea firming one today (hope springs eternal) but has anybody any idea where I'm going wrong?

AliceMcK · 18/08/2022 21:56

Dove, been using it for years, I use the light one. I prefer the Johnsons and Johnsons for nicer natural colour but it irritates my skin after a few applications so don’t use.
