Please help my poor dry eye lids??

Justthinkin · 17/08/2022 08:42

I sometimes get eczema on my eye lids although no flare up at the moment. My eye lids get a little itchy and dry. Right now with no make up on they are ok but as soon as I put eye shadow on it sits horrible and is all patchy. Iv tried so many creams and nothing has helped. GP juts give steroids which I don’t want to use and is a last resort when eczema is bad. Please can anyone recommend something that is safe to use on my eyes for sensitive skin? Lately I’m using something someone on here recommended, I think hydrosil but that is doing nothing sadly .

Blephasol solution or blephaclear wipes. My blepharitis was diagnosed by an optician.

Whataretheodds · 17/08/2022 08:45

I use epaderm. Others use use cetraben or diprobase - find out what works for you.

Lay off the eyeshadow, put one of the above or vaseline on your lids before you cleanse/ wash your face /hair.

ChateauMargaux · 17/08/2022 08:58

I had to give up using eye shadow...

Justthinkin · 17/08/2022 09:02

@Whataretheodds I have used all of those. Although they are good every where else I don’t find them good for my eyes but I don’t know why.

@ChateauMargaux noooooooooo I love my eye shadow!!

@Borgonzola it isn’t that but will have a look at those thanks

Something called "simple eye ointment" (not the brand name Simple) was a godsend to me. I also used a tiny smear of Vaseline which was almost as good.

Lineala · 17/08/2022 09:08

I get mild psoriasis on my face and the only thing that works is Boots foot cream with 10% urea. It works very well on chronically dry hands as well.

Some people swear by Aveeno but I haven't tried it.

BobMortimersPocketMeat · 17/08/2022 09:14

I use Eucerin Urea Repair (the one for face) on my face now - I have gone back to getting occasional facial eczema in perimenopause, as I did in my teens, and it’s the only thing that works.

I would think that ditching the eyeshadow would be a good idea. I use my familiar foundation, powder and eyeliner without any issues, but I’ve always found eyeshadows an irritant.

Clarabellawilliamson · 17/08/2022 09:22

I had this, think mine was triggered by an allergy. I used hydrosil dry eye gel from skin shop. It has honestly been magical.

Justthinkin · 17/08/2022 15:31

@Clarabellawilliamson that’s what I’m using now, recommended on here but it isn’t helping!

@BobMortimersPocketMeat is that ok if it gets in your eyes? I need to go right up to lash line.

reluctant to try something designed for feet on my eyes to be honest…

This is the answer! www.boots.com/aveeno-baby-dermexa-emollient-cream-150ml-10306766

Justthinkin · 17/08/2022 16:05

@TokyoSushi I don’t rate Aveeno on my body so not sure how this will fare on my eyes..: cheap enough to try

Do you have rosacea by any chance? My (v good) optician says research indicates that dry eyes is caused by the same inflamation and that there's some evidence that IPL treatment on the rosacea can also cure dry eyes. Not sure if this also applies to eyelids but it might be worth looking on the internet - he mentioned some recently published papers.

Newlydecorated · 17/08/2022 16:16

I use a tiny bit of vaseline twice a day, moisturise before I shower, and wash my eyelids with baby shampoo twice a day. It's made a huge difference to my dry, eczema prone eyelids.

Mossstitch · 17/08/2022 17:17

I use Lavera 'all in one cream' in a round tin on my face. It's just organic shea butter and almond oil I think, no perfume which I seem to be allergic to. They also do eye make up which I find the only make that doesn't make me itch although I don't wear make up often.

OnceBitten25 · 17/08/2022 17:25

The only thing that works on my eyes during a flare up is a very very thin layer of hydrocortisone cream. Everything else irritates

Rahrahrahrahannoyed · 17/08/2022 17:30

Use a good lip balm, preferably one with the best ingredients like beeswax and almond oil.
'Natruline' lip balm made mainly of castor oil which is also unscented is very good. It is marketed as an alternative to Vaseline which is petrochemicals and forms a barrier to the skin but doesn't moisturise.
I use the body shop born lippy lip balm on my eyelids due to the ingredients.
Using 'moo goo full cream moisturiser' all over my face and a bit more on my eyelids is nice.

another vote for urea cream

I have accidentally got a bit of Eucerin in my eye and it was fine - stung a bit but after a quick flush all was well. I use it right up to the lash line too - you only need a little bit, though, so there’s not a lot to get into your eye in the first place. It’s this one.

When mine were red, crusty and sore, olive oil was the only thing that helped.

Justthinkin · 17/08/2022 18:44

Ok thanks will look at those creams.

to Add I don’t have a flare up of eczema, my eyelids are dry and can get puffy… I want an every day cream that stops them getting dry and iv tried loads

Nivea so soft completely changed my dry, scaly itchy, eyelid and brow area within a week after having spent years and a small fortune on various lotions and potions

DSGR · 17/08/2022 21:12

Another vote for Epiderm (the ointment). It’s great for itchy, dry eyelids and eczema

ParanoidGynodroid · 17/08/2022 23:06

I had this when I was young. Full fat Nivea cleared it up in next to no time.

Fuckingfuckssake · 17/08/2022 23:10

Weleda Skin Food works for me.

Galaxyinmypocket · 17/08/2022 23:19

Dermalex -repair and restore from Lloyds pharmacy online (may be available elsewhere) cleared my the eczema around my eyes within a week of using. I has asked at the local Asda pharmacy but they said there was nothing they could recommend due to it being on my eyes.

I also had a bad reaction to aveeno, I really wanted to like it/for it to work, but it just stung my skin!!
