Am I the only woman in the world who doesn't pluck her eyebrows?

Occasionally I have a panic attack and worry everyone's laughing at my decidedly bushy, unkept brows. It's not that plucking them hurts, though of course it does, but I'm not very good at doing it and it always looks rubbish. Oh and I don't colour my hair either. I asked my hairdresser if everyone else did and she said, yes, they do.....

don't colour my hair either. Used to have it done religiously ever 6 weeks, cost a small fortune (£80 a time )

but haven't done it now for two and a bit years and i love my natural colour.

I am afriad its all or nothing with me.

DumbledoresGirl · 20/01/2008 21:37

Anyone here want to tell me how they do it themselves? What product do you use if you wax? Is it painful?

Please don't tell me to go to a salon. I only ever go into one of those to get dd's hair cut.

Milliways · 20/01/2008 21:38

Superdrug ones are v.good. You affix a pre cut shape over shaggy brow and rip - comes with leaflet reminding you which way to rip etc.

You don't press them down too firmly until happy with position. Sometimes use 2 for each patch, and they have some small unshaped pieces for tidying up.

Less than £2 a packet which provides enough for about 3-4 waxings (using a few extra each time)

DumbledoresGirl · 20/01/2008 21:40

And the pain level is what?

unknownrebelbang · 20/01/2008 21:41

I rarely, if ever, pluck my eyebrows.

I do colour my hair though.

Milliways · 20/01/2008 21:41

6/10?

It's so quick, but you do have red patches for a while (so best not to do just before a night out - as I did recently!)

lazarou · 20/01/2008 21:44

I have my own waxpot. I buy my wax from sally's. You can buy microwaveable wax from there if you don't want to get a wax pot. Also buy some spatulas and snap them in half lenghtways so you have a narrower end to work with. Remember to apply the wax in the direction the hair is growing and remove it quickly and as flat against your skin as you can. Ie do not pull it off and up as you can bruise your skin. Use cloth strips and cut them smaller. Do the bit in between your eyebrows first, then apply the wax to each eyebrow underneath only and try to only get it on the hairs you want to remove as you will end up taking the whole lot off if you're not careful.
You can pluck away any stray ones that you miss. Don't go too thin either unless you like the surprised look.
Honestly though, it is worth going to a salon the first time you do it in order to get a good shape, then you can tidy them up yourself when they grow back.

DumbledoresGirl · 20/01/2008 21:45

Thanks for your answers.

Maybe I will stick with the furry cat look!

lazarou · 20/01/2008 21:45

That should be

Remember to apply the wax in the direction the hair is growing and remove it quickly in the opposite direction

Spidermama · 20/01/2008 21:47

I do mine about once a year. I must say it looks quite nice, but I don't have much brow so it's no biggy.

winestein · 20/01/2008 21:49

And on the polar opposite corner, I do mine every day, otherwise I morph into Ted Heath.

libEL · 20/01/2008 21:53

I do mine - although not religiously.

Is it just me that has what seem like really long eyebrow hairs? Should I be trimming them as well as plucking?

Used to have my hair highlighted regularly but havent for a long long time, rarely get to the hairdresser for a trim let alone anything that would take longer!

JingleyJen · 20/01/2008 21:55

I pluck mine but have had them waxed a few times and love it.

Cappuccino · 20/01/2008 22:31

DG I went to a salon once and then just check every day or two for stray hairs and pluck them out

it doesn't really hurt, the initial waxing. it's bad sneeze hurt, not stubbing your toe hurt

Tommy · 20/01/2008 22:32

I have never plucked my eyebrows! And I don't look like Dennis Healy either

Quattrocento · 20/01/2008 22:36

I have naturally very thin eyebrows and have to do some discreet pencilling

Ditto lips but that is maybe because I spend so much time pursing them censoriously

lucyellensmum · 20/01/2008 23:29

furry, im with you - i dont pluck, and i dont dye anymore. I just cannot be arsed!!! I used to, when i was 16, but then i used to wear ra ra skirts when i was 16 too. My DD says i should, so i enjoy the rebellion.

When i went to the hair dresser, ooh about 6 months ago, i was stunned at how much people were spending on hair colouring - £100!! Only to have it redone in 6-8 weeks time! The hair dresser looked at me like i was an alien when i expressed my surprise.

I hate going to the hair dressers, i just hate it, my hair is a mess, my eyebrows have birds nesting in them, but i dont care

Twinklemegan · 20/01/2008 23:33

How much does it cost to get them done then? I must say it hasn't figured very highly in my budgetting to day (neither does getting my hair done, mind you).

Twinklemegan · 20/01/2008 23:33

to date, I mean

I don't but then I don't do pain.

macwoozy · 20/01/2008 23:42

I do mine, but I seem to get stubbly really quickly, I'm sure they wouldn't have been this potentially bushy if I hadn't have start plucking.

greeneyedgirl · 21/01/2008 10:06

Waxing is the way forward! I never used to care about my eyebrows, but was shown the light by my sis. I have them done at a salon tho, much easier!

bigwombat · 21/01/2008 18:55

Don't have any eyebrows (they fell out about 5 years ago due to stress and have never grown back). I'm a redhead so they were very fair anyway, but still feel a bit stupid without them and people do notice. I always feel it looks so obvious with them pencilled in though. What's the technique?

MaryJB · 21/01/2008 21:22

If you do decide - don't buy the strips with the shaper in - they are a waste of time and don't pull a single hair out.
Although I was once told I have strong roots - which are hard to pull.
It is a tiny hair for goodness sake!
