Show me what’s in fashion for a mum these days

Can anyone post pictures of stylish mum outfits for 2022? I was going to try instagram but no clue how to locate someone who shows that in their account.

Tbf the Venn diagram of what's 'fashionable', 'comfortable' & 'practical' rarely interact.
If I describe what I wear (40s mum to 2 DC), it's what's comfortable & practical to me & I feel ok in - but I know from being on S&B isn't viewed as fashionable.
So I tend to wear skinny jeans, tunics, shorter dresses, midi dresses, long/maxi dresses, leggings, jeans shorts etc.
But according to S&B skinny jeans are dead; leggings with a tunic or dress are seriously unfashionable etc etc. Hence all the responses up thread - wear what you want, makes you feel comfortable & are practical for your lifestyle & budget.

Agree with previous poster about mum jeans and crew neck t shirt with Birkenstocks/trainers. At the moment I really like the Monki soft t shirts. They look good with any bottoms and wash well. The vests are really oversized though so check the measurements.

Goneistheday · 15/08/2022 20:45

And I do still like high waisted skinny jeans, but with either a vintage shirt or one of the boxy cut ones. I'll say Monki again for their more interesting prints!

Throughabushbackwards · 15/08/2022 21:14

It's floral print midi dresses and white trainers round here OP. With a small cross body bag. Definitely a uniform!

crochetmeahat · 15/08/2022 21:40

Wear a belt with your jeans helps with the crawling around

Birkenstocks will never look good or stylish. Don't fall into that trap.

Surprised to hear that. All the younger people seem to wear them.

LeeMiller · 20/08/2022 09:57

The only things I really find impractical are heels and short skirts/dresses. Bodysuits and jumpsuits are a pain when you need the loo but comfy otherwise and practical for crawling around.

My staples are midi/maxi skirts and dresses in viscose or silk (but heavily patterned to hide fingerprints,) worn with thick jersey tanks, fitted t-shirts, fitted knit tops, boxy sweaters or chunky cardigans depending on the season.
Then jeans (straight or flared) with a belt and the same tops as above, or with a camisole and (again heavily patterned) silk or flannel shirts.
I wear lots of black and dark colours to hide the fingerprint stains. Silk, cashmere etc just goes on the delicate wash in the machine. If it’s a home day I wear loungewear/yoga pants or leggings from sweaty Betty, free people etc, with slouchy knitwear - it’s comfy but I don’t feel slobby or scruffy.

I think I get you OP. I like fashion but know that I need to avoid anything white and stick to stuff that’s machine washable. Flat shoes are fine, even for dressy occasions, thanks to the pandemic.

But to answer your question about fashion, there’s no right answer any more. Dress for your body type and style preferences. Good quality fabrics and capsule wardrobes are in. Fast fashion trends are out (aware that’s a bit of an oxymoron). Spend more money on fewer items and consider doing some research into dressing for your body shape.

That’s because young people don’t necessarily know how to dress well! Some of them are naturally skinny and beautiful so they look good whatever they wear. Others don’t care. I agree with @NC12345665 that they’re not stylish (ie elegant or flattering) but they may well be trendy (ie popular).

Mum of three under 8, size 12 with good legs, boobs and a mum tum.
In the summer wear a lot of short dresses with cycle shorts under them. Over them I wear a biker jacket/ denim jacket/ oversized hoody. I also have taken to wearing mom shorts. I keep it plain and simple on the top with plain cotton tops in modern shapes. Weekday and French connection is good for t-shirt basics that are a bit more modern in shape.
been shopping more recently with a site called thread. I browsed their sale section a lot as well as looking at recommendations they send me. Now that I have been using a while they send me lots of reccomendations I like. I like that I can buy a few different brands from one place.
Winter is a similar variation with skirts and dresses and tights. Plain tops. Boden is good for basics like polos.
Jewelry is my thing and helps me feel put together. I wear a lot of gold and recently I have bought a load from Niveah as it’s
Waterproof. I can pick a looks for the week and sleep in in, shower in it. Less faff for me.
oh and always have a cross body bag. Keeps your hands free for littles.
Hope some of this helps.
Other places I like are Zara, and other stories, river island, oasis ( but quality has dropped a bit).

Ignore the silly replies. I have 3 children and when I’m with them I dress differently to say, when I’m at work or going out with my friends.

during summer I wear soft jersey dresses, ‘sun dresses’ I guess they are, I got some from Tesco this year, with slider type shoes. Or black cycling shorts and a loose fitting tshirt (I get these from Primark) if we’re doing something active.

In winter, jeans (skinny or mom jeans) with some pumps or converse, I love leopard print as it goes with anything, or black leggings, a long loose fitting tshirt or jumper, I love oversized and slouchy stuff as I can’t bear the feeling of tight on my stomach when I’m sitting on the floor playing! I also would wear jumper dresses and Chelsea boots.

ChristmasAtHogwarts · 20/08/2022 10:19

Ooh and also - I use a concealer under my eyes from collection which is EXCELLENT and get lots of bits from Revolution to brighten my face up. Even if I’m not doing anything a bit of makeup makes me feel more ‘me’

RadioRouge · 20/08/2022 10:24

I've been wearing drawstring linen trousers with a white vest and a big shirt all summer. Or a sundress, or a t shirt and shorts.

I've absolutely bugger all idea what to wear this autumn. I'm working from home now and most of my work clothes look dated and restrictive and horrible to me.

Most people reassess after preggo clothes and breastfeeding, so don't feel bad about that.

And fashion is weird at the moment because retailers want us to have a roaring 20s, but so many of us still just want comfy practical clothes and not to buy what we don't need.

Can you stalk the local toddler group for mumcore ideas? (Only half joking)

JudgeRindersMinder · 20/08/2022 10:56

MoistBandana · 14/08/2022 14:56

I don't worry about Instagram and such, I go to a shop and buy what I like.
Isn't that what everyone does?
Am I weird? 🤔

Not weird, just snarky🙄

blankittyblank · 20/08/2022 11:45

@Mrcpy I actually disagree on the not-flattering bit. If you have slight chunky legs, the fact they're wide is super flattering! If I try to wear a more delicate style sandal it looks like I have pig trotters!

Also, they do great colours which is good for colour blocking/clashing

RadioRouge · 20/08/2022 11:57

Definite yes to the cross body bag or rucksack.

I do the big t shirt and cycling shorts too.

Oh FFS😂 Jeez you guys are narkey.

To be more mumsnet pc (the irony!). If anyone has some idea of what 25-45 yr old women who have a small kid family (rather than party or older kids who don’t need carrying about) lifestyle wear on a day to day basis I’d love to see what’s stylish currently for getting puked on and having sticky fingers pulling at. I said mum because lots of clothes I would wear if not a mum are not comfortable for crawling on the floor wrestling kids into clothes or getting touched with jam hands.

But fine. I’ll instagram for stuff that s comfy but cool for what I need.

(Shakes head wt how depressing this place is at times).

I dress like a teenage boy, hoodies, joggers, combats, jeans
Steel toe capped boots
