Milia removal

Has anyone had milia removed?

I have one right at the side of my nose, it's been there for a few years, I feel like it's grown and is visible in pictures. I've stupidly attached it with a sterilised needle this morning and it just wouldn't come out Blush it's quite sore now so will leave it alone until it heals.

Has anyone managed to remove one themselves at home? Should I go and pay someone £80 (!) to remove it for me or is it possible at home?

Should have said attacked not attached!

I have removed them before with a needle.

Obviously it's not recommended but then neither is squeezing spots and everyone does that!

TokyoSushi · 10/08/2022 15:28

I have removed one before with tweezers, basically hacked it out, probably not recommended!

ChilliPB · 10/08/2022 15:39

You can remove it at home definitely. I’d use some glycolic acid for a couple of weeks first on the area to see if that works and then have a go at it gently with a fine sterilised needle. You need to basically ‘unroof’ it - take a tiny bit of skin off above it and it will pop out (so don’t go in below like you might a spot if that makes sense!)

Nsky62 · 10/08/2022 15:41

Break open with needle firm squeeze, works for me

DonateBloodNCheckSmokeAlarms · 10/08/2022 16:27

Agree with @ChilliPB it was years ago but I basically poked a hole in it, squeezed it and then clipped off the top layer of dead, white, waxy skin.
Not as good fun as the monster spot I got on my top lip when I was 14 but still decent.

frillypots · 10/08/2022 17:39

That's what I tried. Needle and then squeezing but it wouldn't budge, it's in an awkward position at the side of my nose but on my face so nose is in the way when I'm trying to squeeze Grin it's actually really sore so I'm reluctant to hack at it again for a few days Grin

Squeezing doesn't work on mine, I have to poke it out with the needle.

saveforthat · 10/08/2022 17:43

I had a few removed in a beauty salon. It was incredibly painful and they returned quite quickly so now I just live with them.

Rinatinabina · 10/08/2022 17:43

Yup needle, you need to make a small incision on the skin above so not just a prick if you see what I mean.

Letmedowneasy · 10/08/2022 17:48

Removing with a needle sounds painful, is it? DS has one under his eye but I think the sun would be too thin there. I don't know what to do with it.

HoneyFlowers · 10/08/2022 17:50

I get these! I crush them with tweezers and leave it and after a few days it just disappears. It's very very painful crushing them!!! Do it quickly!!!!

Easywhenyouknowit · 10/08/2022 17:55

I have another one coming under my eye.

last time I scraped the layer of skin off with a needle and tried to press it out by squeezing it with tweezers when my initial squeezing it with fingers did nothing.

I didn’t see anything much come out so maybe it just disappeared after being crushed as @HoneyFlowers said above.

I will do away with scraping the skin off next time and just go for crushing and see what happens.

TotalRhubarb · 10/08/2022 17:59

The Ordinary peeling stuff that’s blood red gets rid of these after two or three applications. It seems to exfoliate the layer of skin over them enough that they come out with a rub of a damp flannel.

frillypots · 10/08/2022 18:01

@TotalRhubarb I've got some of that I'll try it !!

OP posts:
HoneyFlowers · 10/08/2022 18:02

I think after crushing it just disrupts the structure of it and then gets reabsorbed back into the body. I found one good crush was just enough, didn't need to pop it out!

DonateBloodNCheckSmokeAlarms · 10/08/2022 19:00

Anyone else reading this in a Borat voice? "Death by Crushing" Or maybe it was when he did The Dictator.

frillypots · 10/08/2022 19:58

@DonateBloodNCheckSmokeAlarms Grin

I've had another good go at it, more blood but still no white stuff coming out Shock plus it's not really sore so I'd best leave it for a few days and see if it disappears

frillypots · 10/08/2022 19:59

Now* really sore

SparklyAntlers · 10/08/2022 20:09

I did this years ago - it wasn't like a spot but was rather a hard ball. As PP have said squeezing doesn't do it, I had to get the needle under the ball and use it like a lever to push it out. Very satisfying!

TotalRhubarb · 10/08/2022 20:21

frillypots · 10/08/2022 18:01

@TotalRhubarb I've got some of that I'll try it !!

👍 Maybe wait till the soreness subsides? As that stuff is potent!!

Hope it works for you. 🤞

NoToLandfill · 11/08/2022 00:15

Emla cream! Numbing cream. Dob on, wait 30 mins. Sterilised needle. Pop it out. Zero pain.
Can buy the cream at boots.

frillypots · 11/08/2022 10:58

I've woken up this morning and it's got a bit of a scab on it now Confused I've dabbed some sudocrem on and will leave it to heal, hoping it reabsorbs by itself and if not I'll try the red stuff once it's healed!

OP posts:
HoneyFlowers · 12/08/2022 09:30

I crushed one with tweezers about five days ago... One short sharp crush with tweezers to disturb the structure of it. It has literally disappeared now.

MistyRock · 12/08/2022 11:52

I personally find that if you jab through the skin with a needle, then leave it, it will dry out and then a few days later you can pick I off. Very rarely have I jabbed it and popped it all at once.
