Fly boots dated?

I've been wearing my Fly boots with skinny jeans or knee length dresses forever but I'm wondering if they're a bit dated now? Opinions please!

I don't think they are massively dated in that anyone will gasp in horror if you wear them, but they are also not very flattering any time around, IMO, as they often cut off mid calf and make the legs look chunky. I'd go with a more Chelsea boot look, higher up on the leg or ankle ones.

My own opinion is that you don't look dated because of one item, but having a few refresher items in your wardrobe can make you feel more current- so I still wear slim jeans (almost skinnies) but with chunkier heel, or I wear flares or whatever, it's not about wholescale change (which is also environmentally bad) but when you need something new, take the opportunity to update the things you have just a bit.

I still wear lots of things supposedly dated on here, but mix them in with more current stuff and it seems to work.

I have always thought they are horrible and frumpy looking (sorry to use the word) however I certainly don't judge anyone who wears them - I'm sure some people look at my shoes and think "huh"?

If you like them you should wear them and not give a crap, but if you are tired of them and want something different how about a biker style or Chelsea boot? I have some lovely suede Chelsea boots from Italian brand Alpe.

And, if you don't care about things being dated, there's no issue. A lot of people do though especially in the Style and Beauty section. It's not a moral issue, it's about feeling good in your own clothing and for me that means not appearing 10 years out of date, for others this may not be a consideration at all.

Personally I think they look dated - now a firm favourite of the late 40 something mum clinging onto her trendier past... which possibly describes me to a tee (but mine died a natural death about 8 yrs ago).

OMG this is me! Love my flys
Luckily one of the advantages of being older is that I no longer give any fucks what people think of what I'm wearing.

Love my Fly "yellow line" boots as the leather is so soft and kind to my bunions. I think I look cool. I'm a 37 year old mum 👍🤣

lemmein · 16/08/2022 16:24

Well I didn't realise they were ever in fashion, or were considered 'quirky' - it's nice to know at some point over the last 10 years I may have been considered stylish, even if I wasn't aware Grin

Now I'm self-employed and work from home so mainly wear slippers!

Juliegraham1 · 08/02/2024 15:10

Definitely not dated

kerstina · 08/02/2024 18:10

When my DS was younger I loved fly boots , sandals and shoes as they were so comfortable but the wedge heel gave me some height ( am only 5 2”) but now I am older and have a knee injury live in a really comfortable pair of Iggi and co . I still have my flys and think the ankle boots especially are quite classic looking so I would happily still wear them .

boredybored · 08/02/2024 18:11

Yes !

Princessfluffy · 08/02/2024 18:22

@Juliegraham1 why have you commented on a thread that is 18 months old?
A strange thing to resurrect.

If you like it who cares. If you fancy inspo get Pinterest. Search winter fashion, summer fashion, cute dresses… whatever you like

WonderingWanda · 08/02/2024 18:43

I'm not sure they've ever been the height of fashion. I've worn them for years and younger colleagues have taken the piss out of them. I recently bought a new pair because they are comfortable and they fit my narrow foot and fat calf well. I've also worn Dr Martens since the 90's (not the same pair) and they go in and put of fashion. I've got no desire to try and look like I'm in my 20's or 30's or pretend I'm not a Mum.

lenalemonade · 08/02/2024 18:54

I wear everything I love .
Bright dresses ,crazy tights ,classic black dresses ,1950s style dresses and coats ,tailored trousers ,silk shirts ,leggings ,hoodies ,mini skirts ,high heels ,baggy shorts ,vest tops ,trainers ,jeans .
Anything except a bikini !
Last night I was wearing an AC /DC t shirt and leather trousers -today I am a middle aged woman with a nice coloured scarf on teams .
Just do you and to hell with everyone else's idea of "fashion "
Have fun !

I just randomly saw the post and thought it’s Rubbish Fly boots are not dated, I don’t think they will ever date, some styles of them are no different to other fashion boots just better made

KirstenBlest · 09/02/2024 07:23

They have so many different styles - it'd be like saying 'Clark's boots dated?'
I quite like Roxy094fly | Sale | Womens | Fly London Shoes (flylondonshop.co.uk)
and Moof103fly | Sale | Womens | Fly London Shoes (flylondonshop.co.uk)

borntobequiet · 09/02/2024 08:58

I (then in my 50s) and my DD (then in her twenties) both wore boots from this brand in the early 2000s. I also had some great Fly platform/wedge strappy sandals at about that time. Does that make them dated? No idea.
