Trendy but comfy trainers for foot with plantar fasciitis

GonnaGetGoingReturns · 03/08/2022 12:21

As subject says, I'm after some trendy but comfy trainers (not for walking/exercise in) but more for wearing with dresses etc.

Any ideas please? Don't mind if white or not.

If you get some orthotics from Boots they will make almost any shoe comfortable. Avoid Converse as they have very flat soles. Having said that my Hotter trainers plus orthotics are very comfortable but probably wouldn't qualify as trendy.

Fitflops are trendy(ish?), they are fantastic for dodgy feet and knees (like I have).

Fuckitydoodah · 03/08/2022 12:43

No advice but following as I also have plantar fasciitis and need to think about what I'm going to wear when the weather cools.

Whilst insoles help, I think the right pair of trainers is also important.

Can't bring myself to wear sketchers 🙄

I did have black Fitflop trainers but didn't think they were that supportive or wore that well (with daily use).

Have seen from a previous old thread re this subject that New Balance are good but which ones?

Someone also suggested an ultrasound guided cortisol injection, seriously thinking about this although it's not that bad.

Others have said if you break the foot and have it in a cast that helps - bit drastic!

Buy a pair of arch insoles. I've bought many on Amazon and eBay over the yrs.
I've got full length ones, 3/4 length ones.
Find a pair of trainers that are a good leather and take all insoles to a shop and try to find a match.

I own about 8 pairs of Adidas superstars as they are the only ones that allow enough depth for my foot plus insole, plus they are wide enough at the toes area to fit a full length insole into.

It's a real game of elimination.

I see so many trainers I like but nothing else fits me.
With leather you'll be able to tie them tight enough to keep everything in.

It's a bloody pain tho.

Do you have a link for any insoles you've found to be good? There seem to be so many out there, I'm not sure what to go for.

The ones I got off a podiatrist for £25 tend to bunch up in my shoes after a while. So I'm reluctant to fork out again without recommendations.

crispinglovershighkick · 03/08/2022 17:29

These worked for me: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B079JVY8YL?psc=1&ref=ppxpoppmobbbasin_title

I wear Birks or insoles, if I go without I start getting twinges.

Birkenstock do a plain white trainer: www.birkenstock.com/gb/bend-natural-leather/bendlow-smoothleather-naturalleather-0-rubber-u_2.html

Vionic

MonkeysandParrots · 03/08/2022 19:08

Hi it's a few yrs since I got any but I've a few pairs of the Pro range on Amazon.
They're about 8 quid.

I've got quite a few types and have had to try them with my boots and trainers. Then go for what feels most comfortable.
They do feel bit stiff to start with but these ones aren't so rigid that there's no give iyswim.

MsDemeanors · 03/08/2022 20:06

Vionic are really good. Also Clarks Cloudsteppers have some pretty but comfortable trainers.

PantyMcPantFace · 03/08/2022 20:25

Just as an aside. I thought I had PF.....insoles helped a bit. Birkies helped a bit.
Oh and Archies flip flops also good...

Then thyroid medication (finally hit the "bad enough to be medicated" with underactive thyroid) cleared it up completely.

Roll on a few years it started coming back....HRT cleared it up completely.

It can be a sign of not enough oestrogen. Thyroid and oestrogen uptake very close linked. HRT - obvious link with oestrogen.

So just in case it helps.

blodynmawr55 · 03/08/2022 21:14

I walk 5k per day
PF has come and gone for past 4 years.
Interesting to read @PantyMcPantFace's post it can be linked with low oestrogen
Any Fitflop Trainer + orthotic works for me.
Vionics fell apart after about a month.
Fitflops have always lasted years.

Vionic trainers changed my life!

SpeedofaSloth · 04/08/2022 17:04

They wouldn't do for long distances but I have heel pain and am currently finding Rocket Dog Jazzin trainers an awful lot more comfortable than I thought I would.
I have also recently bought a pair of Nike Defy All Day trainers which are squashy and comfy, I managed 10k steps yesterday which is pretty good for me without too much trouble.

waltzingparrot · 04/08/2022 22:59

Skechers do a range called ArchFit. Built in arch support - brilliant for PF.

Thethingswedoforlove · 04/08/2022 23:03

My fit flops literally last years. I’m amazed how long they last

AllLopsided · 04/08/2022 23:38

I have recently bought Skechers arch fit (needed men's extra wide Blush) but they are really comfortable. I have mild PF in one foot and the other foot needs a total ankle replacement. They are so supportive! If you don't have enormously wide feet like me the woman's arch fit come in lots of good colours.

Lineala · 04/08/2022 23:43

Gabor do a good range with a moulded heel. I have PF too, or rather did have until I changed my footwear.

Indoctro · 05/08/2022 00:15

What about Oofos which are runners recovery shoes.

They are made for PF

They are so comfy. You won't take them off.

Gufo · 05/08/2022 07:54

Nike air max. Like walking on clouds.

Wonderwoman333 · 05/08/2022 07:57

vans comfycush are great and good with dresses

I think I'm going to go with these and try specially made insoles on trainers with removable insoles.

I honestly don't like that many of the other trainers (sorry if that sounds harsh).

New balance, need to buy half a size bigger though, Asics would be good as well.
