Lash growth serum which doesn’t change eye colour

Hello, I’m after a lash growth serum- trying to curb my addiction to lash extensions! I’ve read that some can change your eye colour after a period of use, and also cause a loss of orbital fat, leading to a sunken eye appearance! All very unwanted side effects. The ingredients are apparently bimatoprost, and other postaglandins including synthetic ones. So I’m trying to check ingredients but I’m not very good at interpreting all these chemicals!

I was looking at this serum and wondering if it wouldn’t have these risky ingredients, does anyone who is good with chemicals or beauty products know from this pic of the ingredients please? ….

or alternatively have any safe recommendations?

I think The Ordinary one is ok re eye colour, but someone may correct me . I had no idea about the fat thing…. One more thing to worry about !

DeadButDelicious · 31/07/2022 11:24

I'm not sure about eye colour (I haven't noticed any change) but I've had great results with The Ordinary's lash and brow serum, I had some persistently sparse patches in my lashes that are growing in really nicely since I started using it. I don't use it everyday either and it's still effective.

BungleandGeorge · 31/07/2022 11:33

Bimatoprost is prescription only in the uk. Just buy something from a normal cosmetics counter!
whether it could potentially change your eye colour depends on what colour your eyes are

YouDoYouHun · 31/07/2022 11:40

The ingredient that changes eye colour is in American products not British products from the shelf. it is only in British prescription products (in glaucoma treatment). I have very blue eyes and have used lilash for years with no issue and more recently, UK lash with no issue either

SigrunGard · 31/07/2022 13:29

I’ve been using the UKlash serum for nearly a year and haven’t noticed any change to my eye colour .

pushions · 31/07/2022 14:11

what colour changes does it do?

Squirrelsnut · 31/07/2022 14:13

I use Rapidlash which has worked really well. No change to eye colour or loss of fat.

grownup2 · 31/07/2022 14:29

Revitalash seemed to give me sore flaking eyelids - nothing I'd ever experienced before from cosmetics. Maybe I wasn't careful enough about keeping it off my lids, but still ... Looking for something more gentle, as the lashes were definitely longer.

what colour changes does it do?

Apparantly blue and green pigment to brown. Latisse is the American product that does this, but its not sold in the UK. I've not known any UK ones to do this. Some darken along the lash line or cause irritation but I've been using them for 5/6 years plus with no issues.

PeloAddict · 01/08/2022 13:15

I've used rapidlash for years with no issue or irritation and I have (very green!) sensitive eyes

woodhill · 01/08/2022 13:21

Yes I remember watching a video on You tube about this, it is worrying

I stopped for a while

I'm not sure which mine is, in a white tube and use it carefully on top eyelashes

SirVixofVixHall · 01/08/2022 14:11

The eye colours that can change are the ones with some brown pigment in already, so mixed colour eyes that have yellow in them, eg green eyes, hazel eyes, blue eyes with yellow in. The brown goes darker and greeny eyes can go completely brown. This has happened to a friend who uses the same chemical for her eye condition.
True blue eyes won’t change, nor will brown eyes.

Darklane · 01/08/2022 17:31

I have funny turquoise eyes & have been using U.K. Lash for about a year. No eye colour change but have noticed that the skin on the edge of my eyelid has gone darker. Anyone else had this happen?

Ohsugarhoneyicetea · 01/08/2022 18:52

I found the Talika products very good for my lashes, even just the eye cleanser helped.

imstilljenny2 · 01/08/2022 23:08

I'm not sure if the prostaglandin analogues in eyelash serum are strong enough to change eye colour or lose orbital fat. I spent a bit of time researching this a while ago (I'm a hospital pharmacist and a bit of a nerd) and the serums only have a tenth of the strength of bimatoprost as that in the eye drops for glaucoma. The serum also doesn't go into your eye so shouldn't be an issue for eye colour change. Prob still best to avoid them though to be on the safe side.

Lemonblossom · 01/08/2022 23:11

I have green eyes and have used revitalash for a few years with no colour change.

I disagree that it doesn’t go in your eyes though. It frequently goes in mine

SocksAndTheCity · 02/08/2022 12:10

I used the UKLash one for a year or so and had good results with no problems at all; I've just started with the Ordinary one after I picked it up in my Space NK shop. Has anybody used it on the eyebrow area? I notice the box says it's intended as lash and brow serum, but I'm not sure how to use it to try for brow regrowth.

Ivylane · 04/08/2022 12:26

lots of otc lash products contain synthetic postaglandins though which apparently cause issues too…

I use Talika lipocils but only in the morning

Aquamarine1029 · 04/08/2022 22:08

Use pure Castor oil and you won't have to worry about this.

Have you fouund castor oil effective? If so, sounds a reassuring option.

LivingDeadGirlUK · 05/08/2022 05:58

I took drops for Glucomer in the early 2000's and those were the side effects (including lash growth, not great if you only need in one eye).

Ontomatopea · 05/08/2022 06:21

Have you considered just a really good mascara? The mac stack one is amazing.

Alternatively the chantecaille growth mascara is meant to be amazing but it's reaaallly pricey.

Blueuggboots · 05/08/2022 06:30

Have a look at Victoria health, she's campaigning for safe lash serums.

Prettypussy · 05/08/2022 06:55

Well this thread has totally warned me off lash serums! I wasn't aware of any of this- just thought they were a gimmick and not likely to work anyway, so never use them.
