Sunglasses that go over glasses?

So not the ones my dad uses for driving but is there something out there that I can wear that doesn’t make me look really sad? Currently wearing another pair of regular sunglasses over my glasses and yes I know it looks ridiculous!

What about getting prescription sunglasses

SpinningTheSeedsOfLove · 18/07/2022 12:46

I got some clip-ons for over my glasses from Boots for £20. They are Polaroids I think so cut out the glare a lot. They clip-ons don't fit perfectly but they're lightweight and convenient and look good enough.

There are a few different shapes, and they are adjustable.

I can’t help with ones that go over your glasses, but select specs have some fairly inexpensive prescription sunglasses. I do feel like I’m always switching between my glasses and my sunglasses, but at least I can see!
The other option is contact lenses and then regular sunglasses but I find lenses itchy and dry by early afternoon so don’t often bother.

You can buy sunglasses designed to be worn over ordinary glasses; lots on the net.

Chewbecca · 18/07/2022 12:52

I used to have clip on ones but now have prescription sunglasses & wouldn’t go back, I don’t think there is such a thing as non-sad ones.

JaninaDuszejko · 18/07/2022 12:54

Haven't seen clip ons for years. Boots and Vision Express are currently doing a 'get a second pair half price' which includes sunglasses, Spesavers do a 2 for 1 for glasses costing £69 to £169 which includes sunglasses.

Some clip ons are very cool!

Take a look at seen.com . I buy prescription sunglasses from Seen but my eldest son has a pair of clip ons from there.

Teenage ds’s glasses (metal frame) came with free magnetic tinted lenses. Very neat, I thought. You can’t tell they’re not sunglasses when they’re on. He never uses them, naturally!

I have the Eco and Mint Magnetics, so prescription with their own magnetic snap on sunglasses and they are brilliant, a real game changer for me, so only pay for one pair of glasses - www.minteyewear.co.uk/product-category/magnetic-clip-on-sunglasses/

My problem is driving through tunnels (we go to Southern Italy every year). I need something I can change instantly so I am not blind going in and coming out. Prescription sunglasses are no good in the tunnels.

I wear a pair over my glasses so I can push them up or pull them down when I need to. Don’t care that I look sad, I am safe.

Zenni optical do magnetic sunglasses additions to regular frames.

MaryQueenOfSwots · 18/07/2022 16:43

Love the idea of magnetic sunglasses!

I have had prescription sunglasses in the past but then you have to have your actual glasses nearby.

QVC have some. I’m tempted to try a pair to whack on over my glasses when driving

Sunglasses that go over glasses?
CrabbyCat · 18/07/2022 19:05

I use overglasses that I can put on top of my glasses for driving, I don't like having to fiddle around swapping glasses. I have an amazingly comfortable pair I bought on holiday, and these ones off Amazon Opticaid Over glasses Fit over sunglasses Polarised Anti glare UV400 Wrap Around Mens Womens Tortoise brown lens Category 3 Remaldi amzn.eu/gDeZy2b . They aren't as good as the overseas ones, but more than good enough for driving.

I have some Oakley sunglasses which have a particular type of lens. Can't remember the type - maybe prism? I've found that I can walk into a dark building from being outside in bright sun without struggling to see my feet.

NoToLandfill · 19/07/2022 05:17

Polaroid prescription sunglasses. Not too dark, amazing for driving.

Blueuggboots · 19/07/2022 05:44

I'm currently on holiday in Greece. I have varifocal sunglasses....which I left at home!!!

Popped to the local mini market and found the biggest pair of sunglasses I could find. Bingo.

Alocasia · 19/07/2022 06:02

Eco frames with sunclips are great! They’re magnetic so can easily and quickly be put on and off with one hand

JesusMaryAndJosephAndTheWeeDon · 19/07/2022 11:56

What about a pair of photochromatic lenses in your spare pair of specs? Use them as sunglasses but they will adjust to light levels so no need to switch when you go indoors or it gets dark or you drive through a tunnel.

Lots of people like them as their main pair but DH prefers normal lenses for the majority of time.

thedevilinablackdress · 19/07/2022 12:08

A lot of opticians have clips designed to go with frames at the moment, but they might only work with specific frames. I got some a couple of years ago and it's great. Tried Transition lenses and separate pair of prescription sunglasses in the past, and this is my favourite option.

As well as being even less 'cool' than clip-ons, they don't change fast enough so you'll be walking into buildings and they'll still be dark for a while.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 19/07/2022 20:40

I got prescription sunglasses from VE and they cost me £200 odd for both. Buy one get one half price

GetOffTheTableMabel · 19/07/2022 20:46

I have regular glasses which have magnetic clip on sunglasses attachments. You cannot tell that they clip on because there’s no visible attachments. It’s so handy when going in and out of shops or if I’m driving and the sun is in and out.
The glasses came with 2 different sunglasses attachments. They were pricey though. They’re Tom Ford. I believe there are quite a few designs. I use Leightons opticians who are a small, independent chain and carry a wide range of TF designs.
