Bad experience at the hairdressers, I don’t know what I can do, please help

I went to a hair salon in London and got my hair coloured and cut. I explained that my hair is very thick and prone to damage.
The hairdresser said his mum has the same type of hair with me and knew what he was doing.
4 hours in the salon, he has coloured and cut my hair and I could tell my hair felt damaged (he couldn’t get a comb in) he charged me £280 and said that he had given me a discount.
I paid and left but when I got home I realised that my hair what extremely damaged and matted together.
I went back and although he tried to say that it would settle and to wait, I asked for my money back which I got.
my question is what treatments can I have to repair my extremely damaged hair? Would a Brazilian blowout help or are there other treatments that mumsnetters have tried that they could recommend? Any suggestions would help, I’m so upset and am desperate to get it fixed

Aveda damage remedy, but the deep conditioner after every wash not the normal one if it’s been bleached.

Bleach London do a really good mask in a silver tube called 'Reincarnation'. It's really good. What hair type do you have? If possible, post a pic - even if it's just a section of hair.

Right! I can tell you exactly what to do as I had a similar experience.

You could get your hair dyed to a darker colour (I did). As he basically ruined your hair you didn't have to pay him and I'm pleased you got your money back. I asked my hairdresser for a full head of bleached highlights but got bleach permanent colour which was what I did not want.

It will have to grow out/be cut out. Cutting it out is harsh though and a lot of hairdressers will advise you against it.

Go to reputable hairdressers from now on and have consultations. If you're not happy don't use them.

You can try Aphoghee and other treatments (I bought this but never ended up using it!).

I was told by hairdressers after this to:

use a mask once or twice a week and with a conditioner afterwards. I currently use Davines Oi Oil shampoo and conditioner and Garnier Ultimate Blends Masks but have used more expensive ones. I also use Pantene 3 minute miracle during the week too as not as strong as normal masks.

My saviours after washing are:

Redken One United (treatment spray)
L'Oreal Pro Fiber Recover serum (discontinued but you can find on Ebay)

I also let my hair dry naturally nowadays and rarely blow dry it (apart from at salon).

It will be an absolute pain to grow out and treat and I recommend you get regular cuts/colour for at least the next 2 years which for me would be every 8-12 weeks. My hair I've only recently started having highlights on it again but it's been about 2 years since it was damaged so I presume a lot of the damage has grown out.

It's good you got your money back but I'd be trying to ask him to get a darker semi permanent/permanent colour on top. Depending on the damage, I'd also consider seeing a solicitor for damage to your hair. You told him your hair was weak so he shouldn't have gone ahead with the bleach, or should have warned you of the outcome.

Definitely sleep with a silk cap on it, it's made the most amount of difference to my hair when I compare it to billions of treatments!

Try not to wash it too often and don't dry it when you do. Gently comb conditioner through with a wide tooth comb and leave for as long as you can. Preferably overnight.

General rule is, if you can eat it, it's gentle. So olive oil, coconut oil etc are great.

Do as little with it as you can for the next couple of weeks except condition and silk cap.

Good luck!

Silk pillows are also good.

I heard a rice water treatment is good too but have never tried that.

Thank you for sharing your experience, it is comforting to know that I can do something and have anticipated 2 years for it to grow up.
im more angry at myself because my hair was at the best it has ever been.
You live and learn I suppose

I'm really sorry this happened to you. But you could take legal action maybe?

The hairdresser is a bit foolish/ignorant of going ahead with a procedure knowing it would damage your hair. I think my hairdresser tried to 'bleach' my hair (without telling me it was permanent) to get me to buy products for it.

My hair was damaged at the hairdressers quite a while ago.

I'm glad you got all your money back because my hairdresser deducted the cost of a conditioning treatment from mine. I should have said something.

She charges ridiculous amounts in her salon and I know of one customer who has found a cheaper and just as good hairdresser so it doesn't pay to be greedy.

I used Kerastase products. They are expensive but very good. I did a leave in treatment once a week. I got quite a lot chopped off my ends.

My hair looked a lot less damaged after it had been blow dried at the hairdressers. You could ask a hairdresser if this would be ok for your hair or if it would add to the damage.

It only took me about a year for my hair to look better but as I said I had a few inches chopped off.

Okay, it was bleach but I'm still thinking he's made a big mistake somewhere to cause so much damage.
