Abdominoplasty abroad reviews

Hi, have any of you had abdominal surgery abroad? I'm looking for countries like Poland and Czech Republic. The reason I want to travel is obviously the cost, it would cost half the price in the UK which would help me a lot. Another plus in the Czech Republic would be that I have a friend there and she said I could stay with her for a few weeks if I needed to. More money saved:-))))

Hi, I was in Prague, it's been 4 years since I had abdominal surgery. It was a great experience and honestly you save a lot with staying with a friend. I stayed in an apartment which is in the same building as the Forme clinic, but even the operation with the stay and flight was cheaper than I would have paid in the UK, so it was still worth it. Anyway, you can check out the clinic. It's in the city centre and you should get a coordinator to help you with everything.

Thank you. I definitely looked at the Forme clinic, they had a very good price on their website for this surgery. I know the price is approximate and it would change at the end, but it's still a big difference to the UK one. Can I ask how the consultation went? Was it done online or did you have to visit the clinic?

We communicated online. By e-mail or phone. But it was fine, I didn't mind. And they do free consultations, which was great. The other clinics had some fee for that.

Word of caution - I work in A&E and we have SO many women come to us seriously unwell, septic, and with horrific wound infections and breakdowns after having plastic surgery abroad. Obviously my view is skewed because I only see the ones gone wrong, but the sheer number of women having to come to us after cheap surgery abroad is staggering. Not to mention it’s a huge drain on NHS resources.

It is cheaper for a reason. The after care is barely existent, and the standards are not the same.

Yes, I know of many cases where women have returned from surgery abroad with some kind of infection. And I knew about it before my surgery. But it depends on the doctor. There are clinics that don't take care of you when you leave. But in my case, everything was perfect. When I stayed in the apartment, I had some check-ups, so the doctor took care of me after the surgery. And I guess it's good to stay in the country longer so you feel good when you leave. And that's what I did. And of course you have to look hard to find a good, certified surgeon. So for me everything was great and I would definitely go again.

@Lealea4 Hi. I tried to contact the clinic and they replied immediately. I will have the consultation next week so I will see what the doctor will be like and how it will go. Well, the first impression was good. Because I contacted also another clinic and they still did not reply.

I had mine (along with a breast reduction) in a private clinic in Portugal. I could not be happier. The hospital staff were amazing and the surgeon was really really good. I live in Portugal so returned for weekly appointments every week then every month, then at six months and one year. You could do this by zoom but would need to learn how to safely change your own dressings once home. The number of pre op assessments were plentiful and reassuring- blood tests, mammogram, abdominal scans, covid, etc. Happy to send you any more info. It cost €8500
In total for a full reduction and lift, lipo and abdominoplasty on the stomach, and lipo under the armpits and on my back. Xxx

I had abdominoplasty last year in the UK, and an infection set in after a few weeks, which took about 10-12 weeks to completely heal. Without the brilliant (and free) aftercare of the team I really think things would have gone so much worse.

I would never do this. It's major major surgery. There's no way the NHS would have delivered the aftercare I required, and there's an excellent chance I'd have ended up seriously ill with sepsis.

My surgery cost £6k which I took out a loan for. Is going abroad substantially cheaper to make the increased risk worthwhile?

@Ewisa I wish you good luck. Ask the doctor anything you want to know. When I had my consultation, the doctor took the time to answer all my questions and also never had a problem talking about potential risks, which I appreciated. So I was prepared in case something went wrong. But luckily everything was fine, I had a very good and fairly quick recovery.

@Lealea4 The consultation went great. I spoke with Dr Dychus, who will also be my surgeon. He was very nice, friendly and polite. And he told me literally everything. I didn't have to ask a lot of questions. I only have to call them to confirm my November appointment because I wasn't sure if I would be able to travel at that time. But luckily I'm free, so I want to make it this year. That would be great.

@Ewisa I'm happy for you, I'm sure you'll love it. Just make sure you book your ticket in advance. The prices are better then. And I don't know if you're already in contact with the coordinator, but they'll also arrange a free taxi from the airport:-)

I’ve been abroad for surgery x3 times and for dental treatment - off the back of this for around 8 years I worked within the medical tourism industry.

  • People love to state that ‘abroad’ doesn’t have the same level of standards as the UK - that’s utter BS! The UK cosmetic surgery regulations are well known to be some of the poorest in the world.
  • Check out ISAAPS - International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons, they have a good register and Doctors have to prove themselves to join (many UK ones can’t!)
  • TreatmentAbroad.net is a really valuable source of info and honest reviews.
  • id recommend taking specialist travel insurance as normal cover is void, medicaltravelshield.com is the best and most affordable I know of, will extend your stay or pay for treatment once back in the UK.

Best of luck OP, I’ve had surgery in Czech and Thailand, and teeth in Turkey and all of them have been superb so hope you achieve what you’re looking for.

@Lealea4 Thank you. I already bought the ticket and at a pretty good price. I've already confirmed the date so it will be mid-November. I am very happy and can't wait to have a flat tummy. And yes, I have already spoken to Kristina who will be my coordinator.

Hi, I have been considering this clinic Forme for some time. I like the work of the doctors that I have seen on the website and social media. But I'm still trying to scrape together some money and then get my tummy tuck. How quickly did you get a consultation? I may be contacting them sooner than I planned. At least find out what the price would be.

Ewisa · 09/11/2022 09:25

@Alice362 No worries, the consultation was in a couple of weeks, probably depends on how busy this doctor is. But for me, it was perfectly fine and it was actually free, which was even better. So if you're not happy with the doctor, you can just nicely refuse him and that's it. And yes, it's good to find out the price. On their website it's just a guide price, so there will be some extra charges, but nothing you should worry about. It's still a great price compared to the UK one:-))

@Ewisa Thanks. I thought I'd be waiting months for a consultation. Even a month would have been enough. I'll see what they say. And yes, I know it's free, so it's a good deal for me. I've already had a few consultations and had to pay some kind of fee. Anyway, I didn't really like the doctors and the price was too high too. At this clinic, it would have been about half that including flight and accommodation, so it would be worth it. Well, I'll see how it goes.

@Ewisa Hello. Have you had the surgery yet? I'm very curious because I've looked at the exact same clinic many times. I like also the prices of the surgeries. I have a friend who was there a few years ago and had a good experience. Well, I want to have mommy makeover surgery, so I hope I'll be able to do it next year :-)

Hi, yes, I'm a month post-op and feeling great. I'm happy I made it through before Christmas and I'm able to take care of the house now. Everything was perfectly organized and there were no problems. I was in Prague for 3 weeks. I have a friend there so I stayed with her for the last week, that helped me a lot. But accommodation there is not expensive, so you still pay less than in the UK.

Are you pleased with the result ? I'm debating having one next year . It's £12k here which I can afford but I'm still scared !

Have you thought about having it done in India? Some private hospitals in India, such as those in New Delhi and Mumbai, provide world-class care at a fraction of the cost in Europe. The key is to choose the right hospital.

I was wondering if this thread was advertising a specific clinic as Lealea4 has only ever posted about this clinic? Nothing else.

£12,000 is a lot of money, I was offered something like £10,000 which I couldn't afford to pay either. Look at other clinics in Europe. And yes I like the result, my belly is still swollen but it takes time so I have to be patient.
