Abdominoplasty abroad reviews

Hi, have any of you had abdominal surgery abroad? I'm looking for countries like Poland and Czech Republic. The reason I want to travel is obviously the cost, it would cost half the price in the UK which would help me a lot. Another plus in the Czech Republic would be that I have a friend there and she said I could stay with her for a few weeks if I needed to. More money saved:-))))

I'd never go abroad , I'm too scared to do it here in the best clinic ... I soooo want it done though ! Wish I had a Time Machine ! Was the recovery painful?

I understand. I have many friends who would never travel abroad and had the surgery in the UK. I was scared at first too, but then I changed my mind and I was also convinced by a friend who lives there. But I don't regret it one bit. It was the best decision for me. Anyway, I'm still in recovery, but it doesn't hurt anymore. Sometimes I just have a feeling of tension in the scar area, but that's all. And the most painful were the first two weeks after it was fine. But the pain wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. I wish you the best of luck and I hope you'll get the courage to go for it next year. Trust me, it's worth it.

@Ewisa Thank you very much. I am still looking and trying to have some more consultations to compare. I've already spoken to the doctor at the Forme clinic. He was very pleasant and the price I would pay is also good. So for me he is the winner so far, but I have 2 more consultations booked so I will decide then. Well, I didn't know it was that hard, but I hope I make the right decision.

I had abdominoplasty last year in the UK, and an infection set in after a few weeks, which took about 10-12 weeks to completely heal. Without the brilliant (and free) aftercare of the team I really think things would have gone so much worse.

I would never do this. It's major major surgery. There's no way the NHS would have delivered the aftercare I required, and there's an excellent chance I'd have ended up seriously ill with sepsis.

My surgery cost £6k which I took out a loan for. Is going abroad substantially cheaper to make the increased risk worthwhile?

I’m sorry. But I don’t understand this post.

@SassyJ Hi, what clinic did you end up choosing? I have an appointment at this Forme clinic, but not until September. I didn't want to have a tummy tuck before the summer. I have too much sagging skin on my stomach after drastic weight loss over the last year and a half. It looks awful, but I'll have to stick it out through the summer.

@Miabella89 Hi, I ended up having my surgery at the Forme clinic and I'm glad I chose them. I wasn't too impressed with the other 2 doctors. One didn't answer me for a long time so I had to chase him and the other one talked weird :-)). I'm only 3 weeks post op but I'm feeling good already. The first week was hard, I couldn't move much and it hurt a lot. But with painkillers I managed. I stayed in Prague for 15 days. But fortunately I feel fine now, I can do most of the stuff except lifting heavy things. I'll be recovering over the summer, but I don't mind. I don't have many plans anyway.

Word of caution - I work in A&E and we have SO many women come to us seriously unwell, septic, and with horrific wound infections and breakdowns after having plastic surgery abroad. Obviously my view is skewed because I only see the ones gone wrong, but the sheer number of women having to come to us after cheap surgery abroad is staggering. Not to mention it’s a huge drain on NHS resources.

It is cheaper for a reason. The after care is barely existent, and the standards are not the same.

Go for a complete package in the UK in a private hospital, because if things do go wrong you can be readmitted to the private hospital and be cared for by your private surgeon. The surgeons where I worked were great, hardly any readmissions and on call any time for queries. I would never go abroad for major surgery just because it’s cheap…it’s cheap for a reason!

I’ve been abroad for surgery x3 times and for dental treatment - off the back of this for around 8 years I worked within the medical tourism industry.

  • People love to state that ‘abroad’ doesn’t have the same level of standards as the UK - that’s utter BS! The UK cosmetic surgery regulations are well known to be some of the poorest in the world.
  • Check out ISAAPS - International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons, they have a good register and Doctors have to prove themselves to join (many UK ones can’t!)
  • TreatmentAbroad.net is a really valuable source of info and honest reviews.
  • id recommend taking specialist travel insurance as normal cover is void, medicaltravelshield.com is the best and most affordable I know of, will extend your stay or pay for treatment once back in the UK.

Best of luck OP, I’ve had surgery in Czech and Thailand, and teeth in Turkey and all of them have been superb so hope you achieve what you’re looking for.

You are talking about surgeons who work in clinics, and only do cosmetic surgery. You can get surgery in private hospitals done by surgeons who also work in the NHS. They have to get accredited to work in private hospitals to do surgery, the NHS work is usually on patients who have been in accidents or have burns. I know who I would choose and it wouldn’t be in a clinic in a foreign country with no after care!

I've had work done abroad I wouldn't recommend turkey. Lithuania is great , I didn't get my treatment done in a private clinic it was a hospital with ICU they all speak perfect English. I was nursed alongside 1 other patient with 2 nurses the ratio was 1:1 nursing. Tell me where in the nhs offers that? If I need elective treatment I will be going abroad again to the same hospital. I have wound care knowledge and I stayed quite a long time, I had multiple check ups and dressing changed. A lot of people stay for the bare minimum before flying home , my next procedure it will be 3-4 weeks stay. It's a myth the UK is the best in the world our healthcare system is falling apart and shoddy.

Oh, I see. And I hope you're happy with your new belly. I've been planning to have the surgery for almost two years and I've never found the courage. So I'm finally having it. I can't imagine living with such an ugly tummy for the rest of my life. Anyway, I've got it all figured out. The plane ticket and the accommodation. I'll be staying in one of the Forme clinic apartments, which is great.
