Jewellery make suitable for 28 year old

Hi, looking for some advice please. I'm buying a gift for someone who has supported our son for the last 7 years full time.

She is 28 years old and we wanted to get her something quite classical so that it won't age as such. We don't have huge amounts to spend but are spending what for us what is a huge amount.

I was thinking of getting her tiffany knot earings for £330. Is Tiffany appropriate now or is it outdated or for posh teenagers if you know what I mean? Like when Burberry was trendy years ago. It's alot of money for us so I want to get it right.

We thought of these as knots for friendship.

Any suggestions/ advice would also be great please.

My only suggestion is that earrings cannot be returned so for that budget I'd want to be very very sure they would be liked.

Depending on what sort of thing she likes, I have some beautiful jewellery from Sheila Fleet (an Orkney based jeweller). I got some beautiful friendship knot earrings and a necklace for my sister (similar age). Very reasonably priced generally and great customer service (e.g. if you lose an earring she will replace for free).

The earrings are nice but earrings are sooo easily lost and for that money not as substantial as say a necklace or bracelet.

I think this is understated, classic and will not date. I've admired it on many other people too.

IMO Monica Vinader seems to be cheap gold plated stuff. Tiffany is classic jewellery.

No one is ever not going to enjoy opening up a surprise gift from Tiffany's

I honestly would not spend a lot of money on jewellery for anyone unless I was pretty sure of their taste. Jewellery is so personal and very easy to get wrong. Sorry op.

Hopefully a silly question, but are you sure she likes jewellery and wears earrings? I keep getting necklaces and earrings from a certain relative, even though I basically do not wear jewellery, except for rings on very rare occasions. Different from your situation, but in that context it feels dismissive towards me and a present for some female archetype rather than for me (this is a very close relative, so different from your set-up where it's less personal). Especially because it's meant to be a special gift showing appreciation and a sum that is significant for you, it would be a real shame to get something that would just sit in a drawer.

I agree with Monica Vinader. Yes it's vermeil so not solid gold, but I have a fair few pieces worn daily and the plating doesn't come off at all. Its great quality.

I love a little independent maker called Only Through Shadows, based on the Isle of Wight. Some lovely pieces and I’ve bought for my slightly younger daughter with great success.

It's a lovely sentiment but really risky to spend that much on jewellery that might not be to her taste.

Could you not take her to choose something together? Or engineer a conversation where you both say what you'd treat yourself to if you had a couple of hundred pounds to spend!

The responses here demonstrate how different people's styles are, and how taste in jewellery can vary so much depending on the individual.

@Precipice she definitely wears earrings.

I trying to think of something that would have some longevity and that she'd be able to wear in 10 years time and remember my son.

Does she like expensive jewellery? Do you know her taste in earrings?

I actively dislike expensive jewellery and I rarely like any jewellery other people have bought for me.

Then it's very awkward because they expect you to see you wearing it and the rest of the time it just sits in a box.

The idea of the knot for friendship is lovely. Tiffany is classic and long lasting and more subtle if it doesn't have Tiffany stamped on it. What about the knot pendant instead? Then it can be returned/swapped for another design she prefers - just in case- because the earrings cannot and are also too easy to lose.

With a lot of friends in that age range I’d suggest Monica Vinader or Missoma, or a voucher if you’re not sure on a specific piece!

What a lovely thing to do. I'd like to encourage you to spend your money with small businesses instead. Their jewellery is just as well made, if not better, always made with care and often made for the individual rather than mass produced. It also supports the economy better as well. You don't need to spend £300 to get good quality, fashionable jewellery that can be treasured.

There is a recent thread on here with lots of suggestions and I will add my own below. A mixture of price points.

I would advise looking for something similar but more budget friendly if you think that style would suit the recipient. £330 is very expensive for mass produced silver earrings, I think they're very over priced (but accept that a lot of people will like them for the fact they are tiffany)
