Jewellery make suitable for 28 year old

Hi, looking for some advice please. I'm buying a gift for someone who has supported our son for the last 7 years full time.

She is 28 years old and we wanted to get her something quite classical so that it won't age as such. We don't have huge amounts to spend but are spending what for us what is a huge amount.

I was thinking of getting her tiffany knot earings for £330. Is Tiffany appropriate now or is it outdated or for posh teenagers if you know what I mean? Like when Burberry was trendy years ago. It's alot of money for us so I want to get it right.

We thought of these as knots for friendship.

Any suggestions/ advice would also be great please.

Has she supported him in a school? If she has it might be worth checking their rules around gifts as some schools schools have put limits on the amount of gifts a teacher can receive before having to formally declare or even decline them.1111

Sorry random 111111

Has to be Alex Monroe the classic bee necklace or Monica vinarder

I'm 30 and would absolutely love to receive something from Tiffany, though I do think it's overpriced.

Have a look at Jessica Greenaway. I've got a beautiful knot pendant that I wear every day - it's solid three-colour gold and only cost around £100. I got it from her shop on notonthehighstreet, I'm not sure if she sells elsewhere or has her own site.

I also love Clogau jewellery, a lot of their collections have lovely meanings behind them.

I really dislike vermeil jewellery a la
Monica Vinader - a special piece should be solid silver or gold in my view (sorry I know that's a bit snobby)

Pearls. They suit everyone, never date and light up your face like nothing else.

est1899 · 07/07/2022 22:49

@WoundTheBobbinUp I completely agree with you about special pieces being solid gold and silver. There is so much plated and vermeil jewellery on the market at the moment that people seem to be going mad for. All mass produced tatt you can get in bulk from Alibaba, made in a sweat shop in China.

I honestly would not spend a lot of money on jewellery for anyone unless I was pretty sure of their taste. Jewellery is so personal and very easy to get wrong. Sorry op.

Absolutely this. Surprise them by taking them shopping with you instead, maybe?

Have a wee look at Alison Moore. She has some lovely pieces.

How about a Tiffany Bracelet?

I’m 28, and my most treasured piece of jeweller is my Pandora charm bangle. A lot of people see Pandora as tacky or childish but the Bangle is really timeless and charms can be added from family/friends at special occasions:

Yes, Monica Vinader is cheap with a good advertising campaign.

If you're looking for something classical, I'd steer away from any brands. Certainly nothing gold plated. You've a decent budget, so head to a proper jewellers. If you're anywhere near the midlands, then I will never not recommend the jewellery quarter in Birmingham! There's some fabulous jewellers there.

Belephant · 08/07/2022 08:39

Sorry reading full thread after posting... I agree that pearls are always excellent!

I also saw clogau mentioned - they do have some lovely collections but a some of their stuff I find is rather frumpy. They do have a collection currently called "insignia" or something similar which is clearly heavily "inspired" by other famous brands. Some will think this tacky but others will like it - I actually do quite like the pieces to be honest. I also think the Tudor Court collection is nice, especially the pieces with garnet.

I also thought I'd add, are you/is she opposed to second hand jewellery? More bang for your buck!

MyDogStoodOnABee · 08/07/2022 08:45

Oh not Tiffany, it’s awful, the ‘Emperors new clothes’ of jewellery!
I’d prefer something more vintage in yellow gold, do you know any of her preferences? If not get something with a gift receipt and don’t be offended. Jewellery is subjective.

Iamnotamermaid · 08/07/2022 08:52

If you know when her birthday is you could get jewellery with her birthstone

Alison Moore in Orkney does some nice stuff

I think for that amount of money I'd recommend a jewellery shop where you can see in person or letting her close

I have a solid gold necklace with a gold and diamond and opal pendant for not much more than the Tiffany earrings.

I would much rather have a second hand vintage dress ring for that money where you can have solid gold and some lovely stones for that money - but again that's individual people's tastes. Hence the difficulty here!

Justrealised · 08/07/2022 13:18

I can't take her shopping or let her choose unfortunately.

I'm more at odds now but that could be a good thing.
