Cellulite ☹️☹️

So…I’m a mid 40s curvy girl, size 16ish, 5’10 work out three times a week at the gym, weights, cardio etc. Eat very well probably 70% of the time, drink plenty of water- my cellulite has gone bananas! Tops of arms, legs and now working toward bottom of legs. I’ve been body brushing, caffeine scrubbing, can’t anyone please give me any tips for things I haven’t tried?! 🙏🏻

This might be rubbish but I saw a reel on Instagram where they put a tiny pinch of salt and bicarb in each glass of water and that helped (worth a try I guess)

craggydragon · 06/07/2022 20:42

Cellulite is normal, there's not much you can do about it. Forget about it and enjoy your health!

Cellulite is normal and you need it for healthy hormone production.

What is wrong is that women are fed lies about what “perfect” looks like. That doesn’t include cellulite so that you can be sold remedies.

Literally the only way to remove cellulite is liposuction.

norwichmummy123 · 06/07/2022 20:50

I have it and I have read that it can be genetic

OperaStation · 06/07/2022 20:50

Nothing that you put on your skin will have any impact on cellulite - not creams, scrubs, ointments or instagram miracle cures.

The only way to get rid of it is to lose weight. What does your diet look like?

Definitely genetic! My mother has it, my 6 year old dd has it 😞

Weight loss doesn’t necessarily help @OperaStation I had it 8 stone, I have it at 11 stone.

Lapwingslore · 06/07/2022 22:04

I have had it all my adult life but discovered a few years ago that when I go sugar free, my cellulite improves dramatically.

For obvious reasons I struggle to constantly maintain a sugar free diet, but it most definitely makes a difference. So now I restrict myself to Berries & Kiwi as opposed to higher fructose fruits, 85% Chocolate and just occasional sweet treats if celebrating.

Scenekidfringe · 06/07/2022 22:17

I had quite a bit on my upper thighs and bum and a little on the back of my arms. I lost a lot of weight and it improved it slightly but I didnt see huge improvement until I started gaining muscle.

Building muscle seemed to puff my skin and filled the gaps the cellulite was in. Also helped some loose skin I had around my belly button.

Try working some progressive overloading into your weight lifting routine and upping your lean protein.

Deux · 06/07/2022 22:28

There was a programme on bbc about this a few years ago where in conjunction with a university a panel of women tried various different treatments over many weeks.

the only thing that worked and showed improvement in cellulite was dry body brushing. From memory though it was quite onerous, something like 20 minutes a day. It was called something like The Truth About Beauty - Cellulite. Or The Truth about Cellulite.

jeaux90 · 06/07/2022 22:31

@Deux I think I saw that too. Also women and men have different structure underneath our skin which is why women get it a lot worse. (Men have a cross fibre underneath and we don't, ours are vertical)

Deux · 06/07/2022 23:20

@jeaux90 yes I think I remember them talking about the structure of cellulite. It was such a good programme, fact-based, that it’s stuck in my mind. I’ve always had some cellulite even when at my slimmest.

OP, having a tan can help disguise it too as it lessens the shadows created by the bumpiness.

Bumpy1980 · 07/07/2022 07:06

Thankyou all xx
Im definitely a bit chubby in places but probably the most in proportion I’ve ever been, my mum and sister have flawless non bumpy skin ☹️
I know I could tighten my eating and drinking and will probably give it a big push nearer to my holiday! Fake tan and sarongs will be my best friends this summer!

Welcome to menopause.

Maireas · 07/07/2022 07:31

Don't worry about it. Seriously.
If you're fit and well, that's the most important thing. Cellulite was never a thing until "cures" became marketable! Scrubs and creams will have limited impact. We're none of us perfect!

makinganavalon · 07/07/2022 07:51

The only time I've had no cellulite is breastfeeding- I often wonder was it hormonal?
But anyway it's all piled back on now despite me being thinner now, and you know what- I still feel like the same person with or without so it's sort of helped me to accept it.
And yes I have a sister with none too and she eats worse than me!!
I hope you can find some peace with having it

I'm going to start identifying as a man in that case and see if it helps......

I’m going to do the same so they pay me more.

skippy67 · 07/07/2022 10:21

Dry body brushing improves the appearance of mine.

Fluffycloudland77 · 07/07/2022 11:21

Body brushing takes 3 months to start to work ime.

OperaStation · 07/07/2022 11:51

There is no scientific evidence that dry brushing reduces cellulite. Dermatologists often advise against frequent exfoliation because it damages the top layer of the skin.

GonnaGetGoingReturns · 07/07/2022 13:19

I've had it since I was a skinny 12 year old (with no body fat!) and have it now later. Nothing helps. It is genetic as my then best friend was same size or a bit bigger and didn't get it!

Legs look much better toned and tanned though (don't have to go big fake tan, just golden glow, preferably natural).

jeaux90 · 07/07/2022 13:21

@Imabouttoexplode brilliant Grin

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 07/07/2022 13:29

The only thing that helped me was a massage I had in Crete where the masseuse basically slapped my arse and thighs really hard. It went for about a week. Not sure it's worth the pain though
