Normally I check in my bag as I have all my various hair/skin and make up products. I don’t wear huge amounts but I like to use a few different things and hate not having my best stuff with me on holiday.

I also wear contact lenses so have those plus eye drops.

How can I fit everything into a tiny plastic bag for security? How do others do it? I’m flying with friends who aren’t checking their luggage in and so it’s a pain if I do. It’s only for 2 nights in a European city…

Any tips? Thanks.

I was specifically told by the chap herding us through the queues that lipsticks do not count when I was faffing with my bag

I had four lipsticks in my handbag the last time I flew. Security didn’t turn a hair. We had hold baggage so I didn’t have anything in a plastic bag.

Decant into mini containers from the pound shop.

Thanks all. Lots of fab tips! @gogohmm I definitely won’t be using hotel hair stuff as my hair will look a fright! I’d rather hair stuff than perfume. I’ll buy deodorant/shower gel at the airport. I can’t really take much less. it’s the contacts stuff that pushes it over. I think products sachets are a good idea, I’ll look into them. 👍🏻

Take a bar of soap instead of shower gel.

I've never had foundation, mascara or lipstick counted as liquids, they've just been in my make-up bag and never been commented on!

Superdrug has a better mini selection than boots IME
The keratin shampoo conditioner is plenty for 2nights. They've got mini everything BrewSmile

As an aside, I recently flew out of LHR and there was a woman whose cabin case was easily half full of full size skincare stuff. She was devastated when they said she could only take up to 1000ml in the little bag and had to watch £££'s worth go in the bin. I can only assume she hadn't flown for 20 years.

Such a faff decanting isn't it. And so wasteful buying products to throw away. I go minimal these days .... it's quite liberating

And so wasteful buying products to throw away

You don’t have to throw them away, just leave them for the person who cleans your room.

GelatoQueen · 12/07/2022 17:05

@Blossomtoes IME staff are told to dispose of everything left behind especially personal care items, especially post covid. Lots of places still aren't providing things they would normally either. Will probably vary place to place though. Hotels and apartments I've stayed at say quite clear personal belongings left behind are thrown away.

Get a bag that's the right dimensions to see that space you have available. Three sets of lenses and a bottle of eye drops really won't take up much space in a 20x20 bag at all.
As PPs have said with the rest decant, buy travel sizes or solid bars, use sachets. I've got insanely sensitive skin and wear lenses and can pack liquids for a week away in one of the bags with just a little bit of tetrising.
