Which Van Cleef Alhambra necklace to choose?

As the title says ladies, a bit of help please! 😄 This will be a push present (I am due on the 12th of July!), I am currently choosing between these 2 necklaces from Van Cleef. I usually only use gold jewelry but my wedding band and engagement ring are platinum and diamonds. I also have a pearl necklace and use pearl earrings from time to time (with gold settings).

I am having a hard time choosing between these 2 as the pearl one is super classic which I love, but the gold one is also really nice with the textured clover. Buying something this expensive though I'm thinking maybe good to go classic (pearl) as it's also set in gold? I haven't been to the shop to try on yet so I'm not sure if some ladies here seen them in person (I've seen the pearl one but not the gold), which is nicer in person?

If it has any relevance I am of Asian origin and have olive/tan skin (Chinese Asian).

The pearl one. But I do agree that they look dated.

@fallfallfall oh that pearl version is beautiful!!! So many nice pieces and ideas 😍 that one would be a real treat!

Both gorgeous and I prefer the first for someone with a blonde complexion but think the second would look better for brunette/darker skin

But don't wear the necklace when you have a baby as they will yank at it and try to eat it! Think a night nanny and a spa day would be what I would want post baby

A £6K necklace for having a child?! Wow ... read the room OP. A lot of people on these threads are using food banks right now. I'm not suggesting you be embarrassed about choosing something this pricey, but give it some thought ... 🙄

Plenty of people on here have money and plenty of us like to discuss luxury whether we can afford it or not.
It's fun.

I think you’ll get more wear out of the pearl.

I lost the pearl earrings dh got me. They didn’t cost him anything but he still asks every so often if my earrings have turned up.

SisforSugar · 04/07/2022 13:07

I would go for the gold one. I don't know but the classic pearl one seems very dated and quite common actually. Enjoy :)

What relevance does the resale value have? I have a Victorian diamond and opal ring given to me to commerate my son's birth. I've no idea what it's worth as it will never be sold.

I don't have a wedding ring or an engagement ring as I don't like them, but for those of you who did was the resale value a prime or any concern when buying them?

I like the pearl better of the two. Congratulations OP.

Despite normally being obsessed with pearls I actually think I prefer the gold. I didn’t know that they came in just gold (I’ve only ever seen them with the pearl/turquoise/onyx inlay) so it stands out to me as being a bit unusual. Plus I’m not sure how much TLC the pearl would need for everyday use (keeping away from sun cream, lotions, perfume etc) so it depends if it was for day to day use or special occasions?
