What are your must have clothes?

Comfortable swimwear, I like to go up a size.

white cotton shirt I wear as a beach cover up

a few easy to put on cover ups

at least one pair of shirts with a few shirt sleeve blouses for sightseeing.

comfy sandals and flip flops as my feet swell

lots of loose pretty dresses for the evening

Workyticket · 03/07/2022 17:51

Cotton shirt is a good call @OompaLoompaa

I'm struggling to find shorts - my belly is my worst feature and I hate it 😫

Currently on a holiday clothes buying misssion and finding simply be and asos the best places with a few Tesco dresses. I’m buying playsuit/jumpsuits and dresses that can double up as day time or evening wear. High waisted bikinis are my go to with a nice cover up for strolling about the hotel ans a quick throw on dress for breakfast etc

I saw a woman in the park the other day wearing denim shorts with a short floaty dress over the top. The legs of the shorts were just showing a few inches below the dress. She looked lovely.

I bought a zebra print dress in tesco today but the straps are in the wrong place (36hh so can't go braless) so it's going back - shame because it's lovely

Simply be has been my go-to for work midi dresses so I'll take a look

I'm going real life shopping tomorrow but there are hardly any shops left in real life!

Also bough a t shirt dress from next and used this a lot around the pool

Real life shops are just awful, even more so as a plus sizer. I've been looking online for holiday clothes and stringing, maybe I'm just mega fussy! I like jersey shorts through, I picked up some in Sainsbury's a few years back.

Supermarkets seem to cater well for a variety of sizes

RubricEnemy · 03/07/2022 18:19

A great swimsuit that you want to show off. Buy a swimsuit that you really like - size right up until you are comfy in it. You can go bright or floral or whatever appeals - I have seen so many properly gorgeous plus size women on the beach this summer, and confidence is really the key. A bit of beachy make-up (over the sunscreen) and paint your toenails a shade you love. (For the photo of your feet in front of the ocean!)

A great swimsuit needs a cover-up, or a sarong if you want to keep that swimsuit top on show.

There are so lovely floaty dresses around this summer - something new and pretty will really boost your confidence. Wear cotton bike shorts under them. Comfortable and hold in the tummy a bit.

Linen-mix, cotton trousers in beachy colours that you can roll up.

My beach holiday must are soft, stretchy bralets. Great for hot weather and gentle on sunburnt shoulders.

Have an amazing holiday! Where are you headed?

OompaLoompaa · 03/07/2022 18:41

I find Peacocks shirts good, they have a few pairs with elasticated waists. Or ditch the shorts and embrace all the pretty and inexpensive dresses around this year. As a PP said you can wear them in the day or evening.
I have got into culottes recently, they could be worth a try. I tend to do big orders from Next, try it on at home and mix and match with what I have and then send anything back. It’s not just a next clothes, but Tesco, Simply Be etc.

OompaLoompaa · 03/07/2022 18:41

Shorts not shirts.

Shorts not shirts.

That made me giggle - I have friends from Ashington in the North East.

Shirts and shorts sound exactly the same when they pronounce them 🤩

You're so right - real life shopping is awful. I'm heading home having not bought a single thing 😭

I do not like shorts. But I wore these shorts loads in Spain a few weeks ago. There’s something about the pleat front and flippy wide legs that make them quite flattering on both the tummy and legs (well flattering for shorts.) They’re fab for the beach, wash and dry quickly and are cheap! www.marksandspencer.com/printed-pleat-front-shorts/p/clp22078721?intid=mobile_app_pdp_share

Oh no, I'm gutted for you! I like to order a few items from a few different shops and have a try on day at home. Much less stressful, just painful having to then return the items that don't fit/ look right!

Have you tried eBay and vinted? They can be quite good if you know what you're after

Workyticket · 04/07/2022 17:21

The laptop and debit card will be getting a battering tonight - I need enough stuff for 3 weeks and we leave in a fortnight 🙈

I’ve been really impressed with M&S recently and bought quite a bit from there. I’m trying to only buy natural materials (sick of being too hot in the summer) and you can filter on material on their website which is great.

Whydotheyallhaverubbishwheels · 04/07/2022 18:28

@Workyticket what's your usual go to for online? Ive been perusing next, yours clothing, simply be, new look, but feeling uninspired

Simply be and Next - not much shouting at Mr and the quality of stuff in real life Next was awful today 😔

I’ve bought quite a few dresses from M&S this year and also a couple of pleated maxi skirts. I tend to stick to dresses because 1 thing is whole outfit & it takes away the need to think!

I got a nice black swimming costume with a white waist bit from Ssinsburys (asda often have good swimwear too)

I haven’t worn a pair of shorts for about 30 years - I don’t think that will change!

nancy75 · 04/07/2022 18:39

There is a woman on Instagram called marksandspencer_nicola she wears all their clothes but is real person shape. Obviously it’s advertising but I e bought a couple of things she’s worn that I would never have picked up in the shop if I hadn’t seen them on. Also the woman from bake off - Laura.adlington does loads of links to plus size clothes

butterflyfox · 04/07/2022 18:45

Agree that a floaty dress and soft cycling shorts underneath is both flattering and comfortable and elegant. I know very very few people who looks their best in shorts. And who wants to be dealing with a waistband on holiday?

Workyticket · 04/07/2022 18:48

Thanks @nancy75 I've just followed her - wish she had some beach clothes shoots!

I'm a 16-18 but felt much bigger when shopping today - hardly anywhere had anything in my size that I'd even consider wearing

I'm a floppy, big boobed 16-18 rather than a smooth, solid 16-18 like some and I'm only 5'2" which doesn't help

Thank you - I so wish I'd nipped into m&s today 🙈 adding some to my order 👌

Lots of dresses this year and some fab long line knickers from next, not quite cycling shorts, size up so they are loose and comfy
