Best carry-on bag + handbag combo for long haul?

Just that really.

Haven't flown long haul for years for obvious reasons.

So my allowance on our next big holiday is 2x23kg cases + cabin bag + handbag each.

I looooove buying bags so please hit me with your favourites for long haul carry ons.

Also if you're a packing geek like me please tell me what you pack in them. 😊 Who knew flying long haul would seem so exciting again. 😂

@CMOTDibbler @70kid @greyinganddecaying Those MiaTui's look really good. I'm in the market for a tote-style bag because we'll be on one of those trips where you leave the hotel in the morning and don't get back until late and I want something I can shove the kids stuff into etc. Are the straps comfortable for carrying over your shoulder?

greyinganddecaying · 05/07/2022 10:57

@MsMarch I've always found the Mia tui ones really comfortable to carry. The Jennie bag has a long strap as well shoulder straps. It's also good as the lining is blue so much easier to find things inside than a dark lining.

@LadyOfTheCanyon I totally get that! I use organisers and different pouches as I always lose stuff otherwise.

CMOTDibbler · 05/07/2022 10:57

@MsMarch I think so - I prefer to use the bag straps on my shoulder so it tucks under my arm, but it does come with a long strap as well so you can mix up how you carry it. I took it on an overnight work trip the other week and had: all my handbag contents, washbag, laptop, cables, notebook, kindle, purse, phone, an outfit change, Contigo insulated cup, snacks, keys, pens etc etc and it still wasn't full and was fine to lurk around the airport/train station etc with

Thanks both. I am slightly nervous about the Jennie being too big but going to measure my existing bags so I can get a better sense of whether it's likely to be a problem or not and then decide on which one to get. I'm always carrying random jumpers for the kids, extra water bottles, DS' phone, snacks etc and my regular bag/s (which I love) are leather so a bit heavy and also not as flexible on space options (eg, I had to shove the toy DD won at the toy tombola in this weekend and let's just say, it wasn't convenient...) hence looking at a tote style.

@greyinganddecaying

Yes! Pouches for everything so it's not all slopping around in the bottom of the bag!

I wouldn't be without my Le Pliage (I have 2 large and a small) but I do use a bag insert. This sort of thing.

Probably a “duh” comment, but if you’re buying large suitcases, be sure to buy 4-wheeled ones that basically drive themselves through the airport.
I feel like an elegant 1920s lady flanked by her greyhounds as I navigate two huge suitcases by their raised bars.
And a convertible sleeve/pocket on the back of your cabin bag to go over the raised bars.

If you're buying a Mia Tui bag there's usually a discount knocking around too.
