Best styles of shorts for heavy legs

I have heavy legs and big calves and ankles, I haven't worn shorts since I was a child.

I'm sick of being hot I want to buy a pair of shorts, please give me your fashion wisdom

Im a size 12-14

There's a brand called Democracy that do denim shorts. They're only in the US but I found some in a charity shop and they're game changers! If you ever see them on ebay grab them! Such soft denim, they've got this smoothing tummy panel thing which is so soft and comfy I double checked they weren't maternity shorts. They're not too hot either, I've been wearing them in high 30s and got along fine.
The cut of them is just right, they're so flattering. I'm the same size as you and was also not blessed with a shapely leg, these shorts aren't too tight or loose, too long or short. They're the goldilocks of shorts!

I find mens shorts have more room in the thighs and have the benefit of being longer which is great for sitting on any sort of plastic seat. They are also strudier and unless someone is really staring at the side of the zipper then indistinguishable. Uniqlo has some good cotton ones.

I have no idea about shorts but I suffer from the dreaded chub rub and found my husbands anti chafe cream he uses for cycling works a treat. It's called assos. Not cheap but worth every penny. Udderly smooth comes a close 2nd.

I’m sturdy of leg despite being a size 12. I wear boden chino shorts. They’re just above my knee.

I love shorts, same shape legs here.

If the inseam hits the fattest part of my thigh, the legs will bunch up and look like hot pants after a long walk.

Trick is finding a pair that manage to clear that fatty part (starts at around a 4" inseam for me) without them looking like the women's jorts I shunned as a teenager (back when I didn't care about my shorts looking like hot pants).

Bermudas are too long because my knees and calves are chubby too. So it goes.

I like the look of those Joules ones though 🤔

Need to have a nosey in my local M&S this weekend and see how a pair of those drawstring linen shorts look on me too. 😀

I have legs like this, like chunky carrots I suppose. I find longer shorts make me look worse, mid thigh is best on me.

I love shorts because I feel more comfortable running after my kids outdoors, hiking, riding rollercoasters... skirts are pretty, I love wearing them when I'm less active. But I'd be the first idiot to trip over one kicking a football at the park.

There are some (me included) who have gone off Snag tights a bit, due to their current models and advertising. I recommend Better Tights. They have the same stuff in the same high quality, but a wider range. Here are their chub rub shorts. They are really light and breathable

I was so tempted to try these shorts but when I went back they were all sold out - gutted!
Then I got a notify me alert to say there was a 12 back in stock so did a quick click not really expecting them to even fit and they arrived for me to try on earlier.
OMG they are fabulous
I absolutely love them and for the first time in my adult life will be swanning around in denim shorts .

I have this problem as my thighs are so lumpy and I really despair of how they look

@JeanGabin I got another notification they were in stock again today and have ordered a second pair so I won't ever have to live without them again!!
