Incredibly saggy boobs!

COL1N · 25/06/2022 13:50

As per the title, after years of yoyo dieting & breastfeeding, I have incredibly saggy boobs. Imagine nipples inline with belly button 😬
This is causing me 2 problems-

  1. They look really low down so obviously saggy when wearing clothes, I have tried every single bra (it feels like) & not found one that actually lifts them higher without making them look matronly & massive. I am a 40D by the way. Anyone found a magic bra which would help?
  2. The skin underneath, on boobs & tummy, gets really sweaty & sore. I use a spray on deodorant on the area but now Im starting to get loads of spots. Any suggestions for this issue?
Thankyou!

It could be thrush under boobs if it's sweaty and sore, I had this during pregnancy and some cannistan cream sorted it out very quickly.

Have you had yourself measured?

COL1N · 25/06/2022 14:12

Thanks for replying! No I havent been measured- I am pretty embarrassed to be honest, I look awful! I usually buy any new bra in afew sizes & keep the one that fits best. I will try some canestan, is it just the normal one or is there a special one for skin?

  1. Get a fabric measuring tape and follow the boob or bust method to measure yourself www.booborbust.com/
  2. Buy a couple of bras from Brastop.com in different style and try them on
  3. Adjust the straps so there is lift. They should be so elastic that means you need to tighten it up
  4. I'm sure you do this already but showering once or twice a day in hot weather
  5. Wash your bra after 2 wears maximum
  6. Baby powder under your bust and dry it very well after showering. Don't put a bra on a damp body.
  7. I don't know anything about the fungal thrush or canestan but I found these they look like they might help: "Cotton Bra Liner Cool Supportive Comfort Stop Redness Rash Soreness Moisture"

Definitely get measured for a bra properly. To be 40 D you must be very large around the back. Likely you should be wearing a smaller back, bigger cup to give you more support.
Bravissimo have seen every type of boob and they're very helpful.

Definitely check if the rash is fungal, then if not could you wear a cotton vest to stop skin getting sweaty?

emeraldjones · 25/06/2022 14:49

My friend has the same and wears Triumph Doreen bras. They are the last word in unattractive but they really do the job of perking up the boobs! I gather Cross Your Heart bras do the same. Do get measured. The ladies at John Lewis are lovely but I wouldn't recommend Rigby & Pellar. I felt utterly humiliated there when I was measured by a woman who obviously hated the job. I slunk out without buying anything and will never go back.

StrawberryPot · 25/06/2022 14:53

DH has just taken what would otherwise be a really nice photo of me and all I can focus on is my horribly saggy matronly boobs. My bras are very old and comfortable so I think it's time for action!

Never had much success with M&S fitters, but will follow advice from emeraldjones.

ZealAndArdour · 25/06/2022 15:03

Try a Panache Envy, I’d go to bravissimo and get fitted properly. I wear a 32J - and even at that cup size on a small rib size they look very compact and contained in this bra and at the right place on my chest. I’ve recently lost 14stone and my boobs are a sorry state of affairs, mostly skin, very little breast tissue left, and severe ptosis, but nobody would know in this bra.

I can’t imagine that a D cup size would look massive and “matronly” on a 40” rib circumference. Often people are wearing a too large back size to make space for migrated breast tissue that should be scooped into a larger cup size. It could be that you actually need a 38E or a 36F for example, once you’ve been fitted, and that you’ll get the lift and perkiness that you’ve after.

Isabelle70 · 25/06/2022 15:04

I would use the Boob or Bust online site for measuring. I had been wearing a 34E and after measuring I am a 32H and look and feel so much better.
It's a bit of an unwritten rule that your back size is normally your dress size plus 20 inches. I am a size 14 in normal clothes shops, not ones that skimp on fabric!

KarlWrenbury · 25/06/2022 15:05

You’re def not 40d. Go and tell an older assistant at a shop you feel nervous. They’ll be very nice as they put you in a 34F

TheOGCCL · 25/06/2022 15:42

40D would be an unusual size. I second Panache Envy or Tango but get measured. I like Bravissimo for measuring. What they say seems dubious to begin with but they always turn out to be right.

Name99 · 25/06/2022 15:54

The support in a bra comes from the back strap not the straps over your arms.
I bet you're not a 40" back. That would mean you are a size 20ish with really small boobs
You need to buy a bra that fits not just try random ones with no idea what size you are.
Most retailers are rubbish and skip sizes M&S are the worst imo.
I'm a 32H in a good fitting bra they look perky ( in the bra) and I have no sore skin, they shouldn't be touching your tummy I'm a bra????

COL1N · 25/06/2022 16:00

Thankyou so much for all the suggestions- I will follow them all up. I guess I need to bite the bullet & get measured, might try the cream & liners first so skin doesnt look so bad. I am about a size 18 so maybe 40 is right but cup size wrong, they dont seem really small! It is really exciting to think I might be able to improve this situation as its really getting me down!

@Name99 literally go and lift up the straps you will see your boobs go up, too. adjusting the straps absolutely lifts mine up in conjunction with a correct band size!

AnnaMagnani · 25/06/2022 17:05

Clo-trimozole cream under the boobs twice a day and as much bra free time as possible, keeping it dry.

In terms of finding a bra, you need a proper bra fitting as, speaking as someone whose boobs have also gone south, there is no way you are that size. Boob or bust would be a starting point but you really need a fitter.

I think Boob or bust made me a 32HH and the fitter a much more comfortable 34J. They fold up very perky!

Name99 · 25/06/2022 17:05

I was wearing the wrong size for years as high street shops wanted to put me in the sizes they stocked
I can't buy on the High Street which is annoying.
Try the boob or bust method that's what worked for me, when it returned 32H I didn't believe it as I was on a 38d or something stupid. Brastop.com are very good when you've got a size measured up.
All bras are different, certain styles fit better than others but if your on Facebook join the boob or bust page it's v helpful.
A good fitting bra is life changing, your boobs will look good, you will look slimmer and no pain or sore skin on your tummy!

AnnaMagnani · 25/06/2022 17:08

Also wearing the right size bra will stop you being so prone to skin infections - I think both your back and cup sizes are wrong and the bottom of the cup is not sitting correctly under your boobs.

Name99 · 25/06/2022 17:08

DrPayne · 25/06/2022 17:04

Oh I agree, when a bra has been through the wash the slidy clips move and I always tighten them, but the support comes from the back bans being correct and the cups being supportive.
Bras are a nightmare and when you get the perfect one it's life changing!!!

yoshiblue · 25/06/2022 17:11

Bless you. I had rashes and an infection at one point between my breasts and underneath them caused by an ill fitted bra.

I went from an E to an H curl with a lower back! Bravissimo we're so helpful. I had the niya bra from there as I actually need less wire between my breasts (a plunge style).

Go and take yourself don't try and second guess at home. They have seen it all x

ScottishBeth · 25/06/2022 17:15

Honestly go to Bravissimo. They are so lovely and they'll have seen it all before.

I had a bad experience at rigby and peller too.

AnonAnom940 · 25/06/2022 18:10

Definitely try measuring and using boob or bust. From there order loads of bra's in sizes around their suggestions.
Also, a bra I really recommend to get the support at the back you need is a bit random but I sweat by it. It's actually a nursing bra, but it's so comfortable and supportive. It has an extra hooks at the back so that you can wear it larger or smaller round the back to really customise your fit. Bras are a nightmare for me, mine are mostly skin too, which is all crepey and stretchmarked, they grew straight downwards in the first place so have never stood up on their own, awful. And because they're mostly skin Ive never been able to wear underwired bras because any breast at the top is just like a skin on custard. I wear non wired bras which are quite soft.

And I get what people mean about the back strap providing the support but thats for breasts which have the ability to hold themselves up, if yours dont, the shoulder straps do this!

That is just not true. Like I mentioned up thread, I’ve lost a huge amount of weight and have very deflated and saggy breasts, my breasts naturally rest around 6in below the inframammary fold which is the most severe kind of breast ptosis (sagging), my nipples point downwards and rest around 1in above my belly button. The breast tissue is in the bottom of the breast near the nipple, and the rest is skin. At the point where my cleavage should be, my chest wall/ribs protrude out further than the breasts themselves. Again, the skin is thin and crepey, and is just a mass of creased skin when encased in a see through bra.

BUT, the majority of the support still comes from the back band, despite my breasts having absolutely ZERO ability to hold themselves up, it has to come from the band. Relying on straps alone with a loose back band creates a pendulous effect when you walk and is not supportive enough, the shoulders are welted, the breast tissue further migrates around the sides, etc and it just doesn’t work or create a pleasing appearance in clothes.

A lot of people are uncomfortable with a very firm bra band, but it is 100% necessary for the best support, lift and back/shoulder health.

(I have all this detailed knowledge of breast sagging as I’m booked for a breast lift soon).

Im not saying they dont get supported at all by the band but I used to try to get strapless bras (god knows why I bothered) they would just work their way off. My back strap is quite tight, too tight at times, depends if Im bloated or not, its ok today

AnnaMagnani · 25/06/2022 18:44

Mine definitely don't hold themselves up!

You need the right cup size and back band, then they kind of neatly slot in the cups and all the support comes from the back band.

They do need a bit of folding into place compared to when they were perky, but they are definitely not being hoiked up by the shoulder straps.
