What is it with this awful fabric that's everywhere

This really tacky looking fabric that reminds me of Crimplene is everywhere at the moment. I can't believe anyone would buy it. It looks so cheap and tacky.

Just why?

Everywhere on what? It looks like a nice summery comfortable sort of fabric to me. Can you post a whole item in it?

ofwarren · 25/06/2022 12:19

That looks like it's probably itchy and not very breathable

Fenella123 · 25/06/2022 12:23

I feel the same, I went for a JL personal shopper appointment and the stylist brought in some beige crimplene trousers with an elasticated waist. ... ! ... I think she was TOO YOUNG to have ever visited someone in a care home.

BlueBellsArePretty · 25/06/2022 13:13

My armpits are sweating even looking at it

Mainly dresses, blouses and skirts. It's a mix between Crimplene and polyester and won't crease I guess but looks very cheap.

Is it supposed to be retro?

DrPayne · 25/06/2022 14:21

I have seen it and it feels horrid on the skin plus it's not good for hot weather and sweatyness. It's this stupid fashion trend of 90's and 70's clothes that should stay in the 90's and 70's.

KneeQuestion · 25/06/2022 14:32

I knew it would be this material before I opened the thread.

it’s awful isn’t it. Really uncomfortable.

DelphiniumBlue · 25/06/2022 15:48

I think I saw it advertised as being made of recycled plastic bottles. Who wants to wear plastic?

Oh god, that would be rank. I'm sweating even thinking about it.

Yodaisawally · 25/06/2022 15:56

I've had fun stuff made out of recycled bottles, the idea is great, the reality awful. Was like wearing plastic bags to work out in. Vile.

I haven't noticed it - it looks rather sweaty!
But I did see a lot if items in double muslin cloth, which is a lovely fabric especially in the summer.

Babdoc · 25/06/2022 16:28

Good grief, it looks like something an aesthetically challenged great grandmother would upholster a sofa with!

oakleaffy · 25/06/2022 16:29

Gross!!

myuterusistryingtokillme · 25/06/2022 16:36

Oh yes, cheap nasty sweaty material

myuterusistryingtokillme · 25/06/2022 16:37

In Primark they had signs up about everything being made from recycled bottles, yep I would like to coat myself in plastic in the heat of summer

boatahoy · 25/06/2022 16:51

Looks cheap and nasty.

woodhill · 25/06/2022 16:52

Hideous

StaunchMomma · 25/06/2022 16:53

Jeez, that's hideous!!

ChagSameachDoreen · 25/06/2022 18:24

The pattern looks like drops of menstrual blood Confused

I have more of a gripe with knitwear.
Each autumn all of the high street shops are full of this awful, fuzzy stuff that crackles and has a weird chemical smell. It's the knitwear! H&M are especially bad, as are primark. It isn't simple acrylic like in days gone by, it's become a spongy, fluffy mess that transfers to the rest of your clothing and feels really, really weird against the skin. I would prefer they just went back to simple, knitted acrylic, at least you could get it under a coat.

Whatever ends up in Next, H&M, New Look, etc, unfortunately will always be the cheapest solution to quick profit. Not to mention the cynical pricing of this shit.

I recall a perfect cotton tee from M&S around 5 years ago. Everyone loved it and it kept selling out. Noticing this, they decided to get it made cheaper (thinner) and hike the cost up by £6. I imagine they discovered a curious lack of sales from then on.

NoToLandfill · 25/06/2022 23:22

It's so odd to see signs saying made of recycled bottles. Most people didn't realize that their clothes were polyester ie plastic. Well they do now!

Spaceprincess · 25/06/2022 23:29

I also knew it would be this thick polyester textured nightmare before I opened the thread.

Littleguggi · 25/06/2022 23:50

Can't stand this stuff!
