Which zip colour for this dress (pictures)

Got a lovely new dress which is not particularly well designed in practical terms and is very hard to pull off once on, so I want to add a zip because otherwise I know it will end up ripping when I'm taking it off.

I have two zip options - pictured. Which one is better? I'm going for a fairly obvious zip look. Can't decide between red on white or white on red.

White zip with red tape

MrsOwainGlyndŵr · 23/06/2022 22:17

Red one!

JuneJubilee · 23/06/2022 22:25

Well done, it was a good choice!!

it looks lovely on!

I think red tape as I would worry the white tape would wash a different colour over time and ruin the look

Bimblybomeyelash · 24/06/2022 22:26

Looks fab! Well done! I wish I had your skills.

HollowTalk · 24/06/2022 22:32

You've done a brilliant job there. I wonder why you wouldn't just buy the fabric and a pattern though.

Awrite · 24/06/2022 22:40

Red one is a good choice. Looks great and I'm very jealous that you've got the skills to add zips and pockets to dresses.

By the way, I loved the white one too.

Belovedfool · 24/06/2022 22:41

Red zip tape for me, but it's your dress!

LaFloristaCalista · 24/06/2022 22:57

I have that dress and I'm going to make it into a skirt. The waist is so high that it starts right under my breast and it makes me look ridiculous. I love the material but terrible shape for me.

I hope your alteration goes well!

I do make things, but it's quicker and easier to alter and I absolutely loved this fabric and dress. I wouldn't have been able to buy the same fabric elsewhere and it would have taken me probably 6 odd hours to make pattern and dress where it took me just a couple of hours to do the zip and pockets.

I added the pockets today and it went much better than I expected. I was able to do it in a way so as not to put undue stress on the fabric and I am confident the pockets will not compromise the stability of the dress. I am feeling very chuffed with myself!

Ooh, it will make a lovely skirt. Post a pic when you've done it?
